Learn first use of Dimensional Analysis - checking the correctness of a physical equation. There are four basic uses of dimensional analysis out of which we learnt one here in this video, other 3 we will discuss in other lessons.
Dimensional analysis is a very important tool for learning about any physical quantity in physics. It is very important to grab the knowledge of Dimensional analysis before starting our adventure in physical world.

is it necessary to write 'MLT' in this order only or maybe alphabetical order 'LMT' Please clear my doubt.
@afc6994
@afc6994 6 лет назад
Rokz Music you can do so , you are free to write them in alphabetical order but u need to write correct exponential powers
@md.sadiquedurug9701
@md.sadiquedurug9701 6 лет назад
Will be better if we follow MLT order because while writing the units of physical quantities we write kg first then m and then s. For example unit of momentum is kgm/s

sir thank you for uploading this was really nice and also helped me quite a lot but i also want to ask whether how to find out the dimensional equation for 'S' or 'u' in the equation S=ut+½at2 . like in do u have to remember it or there is some kind of technique to derive that. Waiting for your reply........
@nayanatara2781
@nayanatara2781 10 лет назад
You can derive S and u in the equation by using the formula or the unit of the physical quantity. Like, S=displacement so displacement is nothing but length . Hence, the formula is [M0L1T0]

Sir how is [L]=[L]+[L]??
@tanujvats1055
@tanujvats1055 8 лет назад
In dimensional formula L+L or L-L remains the same which is = L There is a rule in the book which tells the same
@PrashannaGauta
@PrashannaGauta 7 лет назад
when you add two lengths you get a length as your answer. The constant is not taken in mind in dimensions. Even if you write L+L=2L the 2 in it will have no significance in terms of dimensions.

No, dimensional consistency says that it *COULD BE* a correct equation. It does NOT prove that it is. Example, the volume of a cubic shape is V = D w h (where D = depth of the base, w = width of the base, & h = the height). The dimensions are consistent, each side being equal to Length^3. Someone else might *incorrectly* assert that the volume is equal to v = d w^2. In this case, the equation is WRONG, But the dimensions are still consistent, each side still being equal to L^3. The contrapositive is true: if the dimensions are inconsistent, then the equation MUST BE wrong. Dimensional consistency is a necessary, *but not sufficient,* condition for the equation to be correct.
