Skip to 11:39 for a typing demonstration.
Today we look at the Bullet Hunter mk 6, a mechanical gaming keyboard from 1stplayer. Kind of a lower-mid budget keyboard, it has an interesting combination of features - as well as one or two serious disadvantages. Hope you enjoy the video!

The practice sentence was: "Hello my name is Thomas and I'm typing on a 1stplayer mk6 Bullet Hunter keyboard right now. Holy fucking shit on a stick, I don't think I've ever went to town on keyboard utility software as today!"

A note on the hotswap sockets: They're Outemu's own sockets. They're found on many cheap Chinese boards, such as E-Element/Mechanical Eagle/GranVela boards. They're really only meant to be compatible with Outemu switches, and if you try inserting Cherry, Gateron, or Kailh-made switches, you'll bend one of the contact pins. This is because the corresponding pin on Outemu's switches are slimmer, so the socket is narrower to ensure proper contact. It's possible to get other MX-style switches into the sockets by crimping or shaving down the one pin (the other pin fits fine and isn't a problem) but this isn't an ideal solution. Not only does it require essentially mutilating your switches, but if you make the pin too thin, it won't make proper contact with the socket and won't register keystrokes. Keep it just a bit too thick, and the socket may accept it, but it will wind up with the death grip mentioned in this video, which as you can see will result in damaged switch housing when you attempt to pull it out. So yeah, pretty well crap. Hopefully Kailh-style hotswap sockets, much like full RGB lighting, start working their way down into cheapo boards soon and obliterate these shitty Outemu sockets for all time.

Yes, I remember that I tried some outemu switches, at first I thought they had thicker legs, in fact I couldn't fit them on kaihua hot swappable sockets, but then I discovered that they have a condom-like-thing over the contacts, that you are supposed to solder with the switches. To "hot swap" you need to brute force them out, so that the soldered condom-things stay attached to the PCB waiting for another switch with bare legs. Not the smartest thing in the world, as even if you want to use them on a keyboard with proper hot swappable sockets like kaihua you need to remove all the condom-things from each leg...

Yup, in the Philippines we have a brand called "Rakk" and they have a keyboard called the Rakk Lam-Ang. It has 2 versions a Lite version and a Pro version, the lite version has outemu hotswaps and the pro version has kailh hotswaps and they specifically advertise the lite version to only be able to hotswap outemu switches.

Ok about the software, I had a Redragon Yama keyboard and it uses the exact same software. A lot of these cheap keyboards use this exact same software. From what I remember in order to apply a macro to keyboard the "Light" tick box must be unticked.

WTF Who the hell in this flubercunting universe would think an obvious "Apply" button would be a bad idea, but unticking a checkbox labelled "Light" (so nothing to do with applying or not applying a configuration change) would be a better one? Makes as much sense as applying the macro change only after the user presses let´s say Control + Alt + the backward slash key + the Escape key simultaneously (because why not,) without documenting it and telling the user absolutely nowhere. This does seem to reach the crap-absurdity level of Synapse after all then

2:27 Actually, in the budget mechanical market, those Outemu hotswap sockets are far more common than Kailh's. Almost every new Outemu keyboard out threre has 'em, and Outemu is pretty much the MX Clone switch you'll see by default on almost anything these days. 4:21 Also, yes, I've always assumed that the cheap doubleshots we get out of China use a cheaper method of doubleshot molding that makes the stenciled font necessary to simplfy and lower the cost. It's the only way I think how pretty much all cheap keyboards these days can afford to include them
@brainandforce
@brainandforce 5 лет назад
The breaking switches is an issue with Outemu's cheapest switches. The enthusiast line (sold by hbheroinbob on reddit) doesn't break when pulled out of those sockets. Also worth noting that Outemu hot swap sockets are not compatible with most other MX switches (except for BSUN switches from what I've heard).

Software is the same as for Redragon boards. You bind macro by clicking the key you want to replace on the board's image. To avoid light menu error and light stuck you simply should remember to hit OK to close the software rather than exit it. To restart it after closing with X you should start the program again as administrator and you'll be fine. It's not that hard to tame it really, just common sense and grey matter. Hope it helped some who failed to getting it right.

i actually used to have one of these and yes , it was really shit. but just saying the macro system is bullshit but i did figure out how to bind macros. first of all u need to save the macro and then you click the key where you want to bind the macro to then just add in the macro.

I refuse to recommend Outemu prebuilts like this one simply for the quality of the switches. Within 3 months of regular use, just typing and some light gaming, *8* of the 87 keys on my keyboard had chatter. I've heard similar reports from several others. That's not to mention the ping, which is somehow worse than gaterons or cherries, the wobble, and the sound. My default recommendation is a cheaper hotswap like a GK61, or a DZ6xRGB, 1up HSE, etc. On a different note, I'd love for you to review T1 switches. They're currently in stock on primekb, and while the shipping may a bit painful, I feel you may like them. If you or someone else can lube them, it makes them even better.

GMMK's software is basically the exact same, in fact there are many similarities between the two keyboards. Either the lighting is being edited or else the macros are. It seems like there's some generic code for the software that many manufacturers use and it's dogshit. Why won't keyboard manufacturers just let you code whatever lighting/macros or other functionality yourself rather than giving you a toolset designed by a disturbed child?
@crumpus5815
@crumpus5815 4 года назад
To create macros on these kinds of keyboards (as far as Redragon goes), you have to uncheck the light box and then double click one of the images of the keys on the board image. The software is so fucking garbage and I ended up having to modify a lot of it myself to work properly.

think the reason for the stenciling of the keycaps is the reversal of the order that the parts of the cap are made. i believe in standard (non stenciled) keycaps the legend is molded 1st, then the rest of the cap is poured around it. with the stenciled ones it looks like the outside of the cap is molded 1st, then the transparent legend is poured in behind it.

My guess on the ordering of the lighting options: the names are translated and are ordered relative to the internal 普通话 titles。 Given my experience with Chinese, you should be impressed the options are not some some form of Chinglesh style gibberish. When I was in 大连 this last year we had to go to the Cadillac dealership and as we were driving it back towards service area I noticed that sign above it read in bright bold painted letters, "Mainfenance Bay", and that is hardly the worst example. Government signs are typically by far the most humorous. Clearly translated using Google... sorry 百度 and then carved into wood or marble without anyone that actually knows English ever proofreading it to see if it makes sense.

Okay so I am a new subscriber so maybe you have covered this before, but I currently use two Logitech G413 carbon keyboards on my development setup and I know it is blasphemous to utter this... but I like them. (They monocolor version is cheap here, they make a nice sound, and backlighting is great for us that prefer to dwell in the dark corners of the world.). That said, seeing your review on the Wootie piqued my interest in maybe expanding my keyboard horizons. However as to the reason behind this comment, I used to own a previous generation Romer G board that had the full RGB setup and I never noticed the sort of RGB spread you mentioned in your review. Maybe it is just my eyes or it was there and I never noticed it. Regardless, hearing you mention it again and pulse modulation issues in reference to this board made me wonder: could that sort of color banding separation potentially be the result of them being designed for US power grid? I know that may sound ludicrous, but your statements reminded me of how the differences in grid frequency made some games run slower in PAL regions. You would think that any such issues would be cleaned up by the power supply and on board USB hardware, but that may also depend on the quality, type, age, and/or design of those components. So with that in mind, I am curious, have you ever tried plugging one of the offending rainbow shitting boards into a laptop or other system to see if it exhibits those same issues? Again maybe crazy, but in my experience laptops tend to have a greater amount of electronic isolation and so I would be curious to know what effect trying them on a different machine might have if any.

If you or anyone could help me out I’d much appreciate it. My apologies as this question doesn’t relate to the posted video. I’m trying to find a switch to use that is most similar to a particular white alps clone. I wish I could figure out which clone it is but there’s either no markings on them or some have, I believe like a number 45 (I could be wrong). The main thing these switches do is it seems they activate pretty high, before the click. They are fairly stiff as well, as in that they require a little more pressure to push than say a matias white alp. These switches were used in guitar hero Wii guitars for the strum bar. When the strum bar gets flicked down it rebounds up and activates the up strum & vice versa. So the spring is strong enough to spring the strum bar to activate the other switch when flicked and the activation point of the switch must be pretty high for the rebound to activate it. Hope I’m explaining this ok. Or If I could bend the internal leaf of a white alps switch to make it activate higher then that could also work....?

Yooo, hold up a second. That software is incredibly similar to the GMMK software. The 3 profiles being separate buttons, the separate macro button, the "colorful" checkbox, how the keyboard on screen doesn't accurately reflect the actual keyboard. You know, I'm actually pretty sure the Lighting modes are the same and in the same order, just with different names.

Yes I am leaving these comments on other mechanical keyboard fanlike youtuber that mechanical keyboard are really getting cheap. And that makes sense because it became mainstream. Btw if people would buy topre as much as these it would also become mainstream XD also men there is so much competition between amnufacturers. For example khail and gaterona already becoming premium brands with new swutches box amd zeal and outemu became budget premium switch. Cherry should create more new switches because these comapnies are quite into the market Update: And yeah one thing is that some of these manufacturers should ask someone else to make software ... XD Updateeee: Hey you cam chamge macros by turning off light box. That's why it exists in the first place... if they are into these boxes things couldn't they just change name of the mode instead of showing that box. That bullshit because these kind of software feels done by 11 grade sudent, who is first year into c++ programming. Or someone who has little to no experience about UI. I know that it's annoying and I was looking for macros also like for hour and then I have found this solution.

Those are outemu hot swap sockets. Cherry and kailh switches tend to damage the sockets, so its a 1 swap deal if you don't use the right switches.

Looks really similar to the GMMK software - doesn't it? I only opened that once before realizing I needed a usb to usb converter go get tmk on it to get some basic functionality, but it looks really similar. I think.

Those generic boars used by lots of brands (Redragon being just one of them) are very intersting in the entry level but kinda pointless above 50USD. However, I can't deny the fact that here in my land (Brazil) they do managed to get some good options at reasonable prices. Yes, the font Redragon uses is pretty ugly but they managed to offer the first ABNT2 double shot keycaps ever. They even did the 'Ç' key correctly using the same (ugly) font instead of just putting a totally different font on the 'Ç' like many cheap mechanical keyboards does here. The big names never cared about making us a mechanical keyboard with ABNT layout (Thermaltake did the ABNT2 version of the MEKA G1 years ago, even respecting the correct abnt2 number pad layout having the small + and . keys instead of the big + key used today in all mechanical abnt2 keyboards but 1still no doubleshot keycaps), logitech to this date (I might be wrong) has just few abnt2 options like the G413 with those crap romer-g switches, no double shot caps and still costs 50usd more than any redragon or motospeed (just to name a few). About the removal of the switches: I broke three switches trying to remove them with the supplied tool (redragon kala). I figured out that I could simply disassemble the keyboard and push the switches from their botton to a safer removal. It worked and it managed to loose it too. Now I can remove the switches with the tool without destroying them. Now I consider myself to get a batch of those outemu dustproof since it will not require me to mutilate the switches' contacts.

Hmm, smoothness was never really a problem of MX blue switches, in my opinion. I just find these so similar, I'm not sure what the point is, really.
@InvidiousIgnoramus

@@Chyrosran22 it comes down to the housings. If you've ever seen a macro shot of Cherry housings, the surface is actually VERY rough. It's less noticeable with blues since you don't have leaf friction after the click, but it can still be felt if you pay close attention.
@Chyrosran22
@Chyrosran22 5 лет назад
@@InvidiousIgnoramus Well, of coursethere is friction - this is especially obvious when you try out some beamsprings xD . But it's never really what plagued me the most about MX blue :) .
