Years ago, I had thought about turboing a 2.5. Everyone told me it wasn't a good idea...IIRC, the rod ratio would be off...but the bore was the same as the high revving 302 Chevy, so I thought about using 302 forged pistons but then I sold the truck...
Everyone who says something isn't a good Idea should be your reason to prove the suckers wrong! That's how my brain works haha. There's a lot of stigma for turboing a 2.5...but I mean hell I boosted mine from a factory 19sec 1/4 down to a 14.89
Hey man just want to say good work on the channel. I found you off TikTok and when I found out your from Edmonton was pretty cool cause I love just out side of Edmonton lol so keep up the grind 🤟🏻
There is a reason that they call that particular engine the Iron Duke not just because it's made out of solid cast-iron but for the simple fact that they are Bulletproof
I bored my 2.5 iron duke 40 over but no boost lol. So far it runs like new. I got a 88 s10 5 speed my dad bought brand new. I had it repainted bright red again and rebuilt the duke and she looks and runs like a new one 👍🏻. But just like it was new it doesn’t have the power to get out of its own way 😂. I got slightly larger pistons but I can’t tell it did much for it. Doesn’t matter though. It’s my dads cool “ Little Red” as he called it. I pamper it. It’s my daily driver right now That engine did good to go over 200k. Mine had lost quite a bit of compression by 150k. It was pretty tired.
I made a redneck ram air for mine with a 4" hose ran through the core support and zip tied to the grill back in the day. Its did make a noticeable difference on the highway, and the air filter would develop a dirt spot right where the incoming air hit - indicating that it wasnt just all in my head. Try getting it some more air!
Hey bro I don’t know if your reply but it’s worth a shot. I have a 92 s10 2.5 as well. My alternator bracket studs have snapped off while drive, don’t know how but now I need to take out the rest of the studs from the side of the cylinder head. I just wanted to ask do you know if those Studs can be taking out? I’m planning on buying a welder tomorrow and welding a nut to them and try backing them out like that. I would highly appreciate it if you reply or even just put your input. Have a good night
Welding a nut is a good option, sometimes a washer as a starting base works a little bit easier as well and then you can weld the nut on that for good measure. otherwise drilling and tapping but no one wants to do that lol
How long/how many miles did you run the motor before this teardown? My only experience with these engines is in Fieros, and from what I can tell these engines hate abuse and high rpm but are bulletproof if driven with respect. I've read they have thin weak (albeit cast iron) blocks, and people pushing them and making a hole in the motor were the cause of many of the Fiero fire stories. I know the S10 2.5 has a stronger crank so maybe that helps but I'm surprised to see what most consider an economy truck motor handling so much boost.
I got a 85 2.5 with 72k on it with the 4 speed it is very torque even with the low hp, but can't co no faster than 10 mph in first and by 35 mph I'm in 4th.I can stretch 3rd to 45 .My last name is the same as your as well.
Im doing a 2.5 turbo install now ,, what did the turbo come off of? i have one off of a 4 cyl diesel im using with built in waste gate you mention u were up to 18 lbs of boost ,, did it start smoking or what caused the reason your tearing down?... got some more questions are there previous videos??
Turbo is a TD04 off a volvo s60, took the engine apart primarily because im doing an engine swap anyways, and i was having some power losses. ended up being just worn out and my ring gaps were huge
Strem how I doing man I just found ur channel nd I'm impressed I never knew I can put a turbo on my 2.5 tech four do u need to do other modifications to the engine nd to the car in order to do so nd do I have videos on how to disassemble this engine step by step the reason I'm saying this is because two weeks ago it started to throw white smoke nd I opened the filter cap nd there was oil everywhere man any ideas wat may caused it nd how to fix it myself ?
Whats a completely safe amount of boost to run. I'm convinced to turbo my 88 GMC s15, but I'm honestly a little scared. It's my project truck bone stock w/ only 106k miles on it?
Hey man, i was wondering how you tune the 2.5 tbi computer to work with turbo, I bought a s10 and come with 2.5 5 speed, I probably want to turbo, thanks good luck, I watched all your videos
Hey Alex do you have a video on how you made that manifold for the S10. I want to put something small and simple on my 2.5l . I know it's been done with no intercooler but don't and just have like 10 or less psi.
I would hope since it's live radio it shouldn't be a big deal, but if RU-vid deems it a problem I'll have to shut it off when I record. Thanks for looking out though I appreciate it!
well, I have an s10 with the same engine an a 5-spd manual gearbox, and I'm thinking about turbocharge my truck, so, maybe your videos makes me an greather ideas for my project too, thanks a lot
Can anyone help? I’ve removed the fiber camshaft gear(failure). Replaced it with a new aluminum one along with new crankshaft gear. Not realizing using the puller I might have rotated the cam a couple rotations(using impact on puller). After installing new gears. I’ve lined up both timing marks 11 o’clock to 5 o’clock. After lining up TDC and distributor getting hard start and backfire while adjusting distributor. Is it possible I might have installed cam gear out a full rotation? Or should it fire regardless of gear installation as long as marks line up?
