Just wanna say, the combination of Processing, p5.js and the Shiff-man himself, have helped IMMENSELY in teaching my children to code. The instant gratification from Processing and p5.js is great for kids who have grown up in a world of immediacy, with shortened attention spans, where they really need to see results fast with their programming, rather than the tiresome slog through months of programming BASIC on a C64 just to do a Nibbles clone, that I pushed myself through as a child. That, plus the bright, vibrant, and fun personality you have Dan, is a match made for today's youth. Keep up the FANTASTIC work! You are a valuable and much loved internet personality in the programming community. I love everything you do, your passion is contagious and your vibe is addictive. Love your work!

I love this series! Before seeing these videos, I used to program in PHP which I know is becoming outdated. It was so great to update my server-side web development skills by learning node. This was a really great introduction, unlocking the door to so many vital skills. Thank you!

Could you maybe cover secure logins/registrations with authorization in node in a future project and maybe how to keep logged in with tokens? Would be very interesting

It's amazing that you included this! A lot of people don't really think about accessibility and I think it's really cool of you to point it out and give advice on how to implement it in anything we make

Just wanted to thank you for your effort in explaining things tidy and clear, would be great to show the exact way of getting APIs from big websites to use in yours (e.g RU-vid)

Back when I was in 2nd year of Electronic Engineering I knew a bit of programming to help me with my Arduino projects but I didn't see myself as a future programmer. One day I came upon one of your p5 coding challanges and I was just impresed on how much you can do in so little time and also how easy it is to understand different concepts when having them immediately displayed on the screen. From that point I started watching all of your coding challanges and livestreams, doing projects and learning many good approaches and practices, even used Processing as a custom interface and driver for my Hardware Accelerator final year project. In time I have become interested in the programming languages themselves so I learned all of the new features of ES6+, prototypes and other languages. Now I am working in the chip design industry using an OOP language similar to Java but still learning new things in my free time and doing new projects, such as this one. Now I think I can call myself a programmer, so thank you for that, Shiffman!

Really looking forward for the deployment part. Always wondered if node.js can be deployed to normal hosting services servers like godaddy
@TheCodingTrain
@TheCodingTrain 5 лет назад
I don't believe GoDaddy supports node.js, but I haven't looked at the details of their servers. I use glitch and heroku in the upcoming video, and also would recommend Digital Ocean.
@abhaysharma8569
@abhaysharma8569 5 лет назад
You can use heroku to host nodejs and use you godaddy custom domain to be the entry point if that makes sense

for img alt you can also do something like this in the logs.js inside: for (item of data) { const image = document.createElement('img'); image.alt=`${item.mood}`;

Hi Daniel, would it be possible for you to upload the answer to the exercise in which you save the images to the server and save the url in the database? The github folder "exercise_07_save_files" only contains four photos and a db file, but no js or html file. Thanks

Really enjoying the video series, I have one question: why is the data returned in an arbitrary way? They reside within the same file, the file itself is naturally ordered by time as data is logged to it, right? So, it should return earliest to latest if it isn’t sorted yet. It seems a little strange that data is displayed in a seemingly random order, maybe I’m missing something here.

Hey, I've been watching your playlist on intro to ES6/j5 using atom. I was just wondering how you get the console to come up when you start the server? I'm also REALLY confused on how you start a new project in atom using j5. It would be AMAZING if you created a video on how to setup atom with j5, a brief explanation on how it works and how one would start a new sketch because I'm very confused. Plz consider!!!!!!

if anyone has done the exercise "to save base64-encoded image to disk" and could not open the image in the all.html, it is because you have to include app.use("/img", express.static("images")); in the index.js file. i took a long time to figure it out.

Hey Dan, I started coding a few months ago, and I finally started working on a pretty big project this week (on processing). At first, it was going really well, and I thought I was pretty much finished. 50+ lines of code later, I found out I was really wrong, as I kept getting nullPointerException almost every time I went to initialize or reassign an object. Could you maybe look through my code to see where the problems are?

Would you mind asking at discourse.processing.org/! It's a better platform for Processing and p5.js related code questions. You can share code there easily! Feel free to link from here to your post.

I do luv your decentralizing teaching in general, i did read of Mastadon and other like it, one was individual profiles were stored by the individuals device like a tor network. I luv these web servers. Can you show us how to do an email server? Like when Hilary Clinton was busted? it seams super logical and i still want one, how can we get email to come in and store them in a box locally? and respond? with nobody else but our web own tiny java i.e express web server .

If someone wanted to find how to save image string from canvas as file to server: # Python 3+ import base64 # crop redundant letters from beginning ("data:image/png;base64,") sketch64 = sketch[22:] def save_sketch_to_server(sketch64, sketch_path): with open(sketch_path, "wb") as fh: fh.write(base64.decodebytes(sketch64.encode()))
