Interesting though still not convinced, switching to ATs when upsizing, seems to me to alter the findings slightly, for consistency a MT all on 3 sizes makes sense if you are testing outcomes, I have both for my truck and I notice a difference on road mostly (different truck ) but is noticeable, though again they are different brands and my MTS are quite aggressive! Love that you showed the blooper at the front and its a lesson for all of us, no matter how much experience you have, you can make mistakes, never take your eye off the ball until through the obstacle, we all get over cocky, lucky you didn't do a rear quarter, as good as the 2.8l content has been, I would love to see you keep the Troopy and the 79, you wont get these again, 2.8l you know you can buy again new! That said I would love to see you sell the 76, do an upgrade on the Troopy with a Just Autos 6spd conversion, to me that is the ultimate 70s series upgrade if you are wanting an Auto option, the Troopy is an investment, you aren't throwing dollars away, the 76 has limited appeal and market if when you do sell it, but with the effort already in the Troopy Id hate to see it ditched at this stage, its unfinished as to what you can do, Id like to see the channel get back to trips more than builds, it was your forte now its getting like ASPs direction and others overly done love the sound of own voices too much less driving! Always enjoy builds but trips and using them is what we don't see enough of, plus miss Torbs, where is the old legend ?🤘

I've rock packed several 79's in this situation and worse off camber. What I've actually realised is that sometimes in this situation, you are better to turn off the rear locker and keep the front engaged. This is because, the rear can cause the arse to pull side ways, which you can see the outcome in this vid.

I dont get it. You stop slippage of a tyre spinning and then suddenly stopping. That breaks things not having diffs locked

Bigger tyres will affect fuel around town where the rack wouldn't, on the highway its the other way around. Rarely do they both affect it at the same time.

Definitely worth having a cargo barrier with all that stuff in the back, can be a life saver. Lots of light ones available. A windshield would probably help heaps with fuel economy on the roof racks. Just probably wouldn't look as cool😅

Cargo barriers are just about mandatory for a wagon, it doesn't take much for all that stuff in the back to become projectiles.

After you compare with 35s, it would be nice to then do a dyno comparison. The 79 has no doubt lost power and torque over the years. I think this would really settle any doubt. Great work though mate. 👍

The nice thing about the 2.8 is family camping life is a bit easier. My girls hate the Troopy exit and entry into the back seats 🙈. The 76 can still get the Thor conversion. And you could end up having two setup for the back. One with seats the other without.

I love ma wagon . Light and powerful. I’ve been towing around my heavy builders trailer with my old hilux 2016 model, got my wagon back from gvm and 33s fitted plus track correction. Yes it’s a v8 . Yes the trailer is way less noticeable behind the wagon . I do not take my baby v8 wagon for granted I love her . Especially now with all her new mods . Bp51 shocks . So smooth . Has anyone ever done some stronger door hinge / latch to take the extra weight of the bigger spare wheel on the rear door . I can imagine some extra ratel is about to come my way from that . Good vid . Wagon life !

I have had so many different 4x4 vehicles (4x4 van, short wheelbase 4x4s, long wheelbase 4x4s), traveled all-over Europe and part in Canada and in US (where I live now). Since I got my Jeep Gladiator (after 2 Wranglers JL), I will never go back to anything that is not a pickup truck. The way you can customize the space, and the sheer amount of it, simply makes for the best setup, also considering that the bed is completely separated from the front of the truck. With a good lift and decent sized tires the wheelbase is not too big of a problem, especially in the higher end trims (Rubicon). I do understand, and agree, that Toyotas can be more reliable, but I think by now they are about equal with Jeep having a few corks that you get to know in the forums and prepare about. Anyway this is not a Jeep vs Toyota argument, but more pickup-truck vs cab-truck. I would love to hear your opinion Ronny. Great videos as usual, long time follower here.
@Arda86ca
@Arda86ca 6 месяцев назад
I don’t think you can make a Wagon vs Pickup conclusion just based off of a Jeep . The cargo space in the wranglers is a Joke. Can’t fit anything and can’t carry anything. 76,78s are a whole different anymals in terms of cargo space/load carrying abilities.
@wildsightsexpeditions
@wildsightsexpeditions 3 месяца назад
@@Arda86ca No, sorry, I haven't had only Wranglers. I have had many vehicles and also a couple of Delica mini van. The pickup truck is just simply a better option as it allows for a completely separate space. In my Gladiator I have plenty of space in the cabin, with 3 comfortable rear seats that can accommodate load of gear, and plus the whole pickup bed that can be used with the rooftop tent on the top as well. The amount of gear I have to carry with me for cinematography and photography is a lot and there is no way I would make it in a Wagon like that one. Plus my dog stays in the back and there are no hairs in the cabin, which also was a huge issue before. The bed can become a small camper, can be used as cargo plus rooftop tent, can be used with a canopy, and all of that without even touching the cabin inside. Is just a lot better. And arguably the Gladiator with a good lift is better than all of these other wagons offroad. I also tried a Defender 130 and I still found that to be less spacious and effective at most of the stuff.

Yeah definitely an OOPSIE on the obstacle!! That said we are all human and we all make mistakes. On the basic modifications that you have done so far. I can say that I do like the look of the 33's and the Roof rack as it just sits right with it. I feel a small lift(2-3 inch at best) would finish the look alone. For the back I say it's fine for now but maybe consider some basic drawer setup of sorts. Don't want to go too crazy with the 76 since I suspect you may sell it. How will it tow with bigger tires? Well in my experience with a 2019 Ranger here in the US running the 2.3 I can say it did fine towing with both 32 and 33 inch tires. Mind you the factory tire size was a 30 inch and I had it tuned with the 32 and 33 inch tires. If you don't have the 76 tuned I suspect it may do ok with 33's at best and do absolutely horrible with 35's. If you get it tuned you will be good with 33's but will still be questionable on 35's. Do you like Wagon Life? I'm going to suspect not entirely. To elaborate I feel you will prefer to stay in the 79 more often and thanks to how you set it up I feel you like the 78 as it is a House on wheels. Yes there are pros and cons to the 78 and 76, but I feel you should stick with the 78 and 79. As for the 76, try selling it to Harry!

A combination of heavier tyres, heavier wheels & larger diameter tyres which ruins your gear ratios putting more load on your gearbox which causes your lock up clutch to unlock every time you're using anymore than light acceleration so you're always loosing efficiency through your torque converter.

ps Marks portals on 35's are dumb as it causes you to need brake upgrade, it brakes more stuff under load and defeats the purpose of portal axels, which is getting more clearance without needing bigger tyre and all the negatives that go along.
