Awesome job with the graphics overlay Trenton! This was a great episode. Interesting to hear about the Bullett 12yr. I usually pass on Bullett but maybe if i see it at a bar, i'll get a taste and try it out. Cant believe you snuck that fireball in there. One of these is not like the others. lol
I feel like Bookers get so much better with time once they're opened. Get a little air in there and give it 3-6 months and they're usually golden then. Fresh cracks are usually so damn hot it's hard to get the flavors out.
Absolutely. A lot of them really open up after a couple weeks-month or two. Some even take longer. My eh taylor single barrel took at least 3 months before it really opened up and was enjoyable. The first couple months it really wasnt all that good. But when it finally opened up after a few months it was amazing. I had one bottle i gave away after the first pour because it was so bad i didnt think there was anyway it would change enough to be good. It was to my brother, and kinda as a joke for xmas because i opened up another bottle he really wanted and waited a few hours to tell him it was actually his/his real xmas present. But when i had it the second time it was so much better and actually really good even just a couple weeks later. That was buzzard roost cigar rye. Very good bottle after the neck pour and couple weeks
I got one of the Bernheim BPs from 2023 and didn't love it. But based on your reactions maybe I should revisit it soon. I tend to really like Booker's, but I'm trying to cut down on bottles and already have three batches. Maybe I'll let this one slip by me.
Booker's is still $89.99 in my area, so I pick up any batch I see. I just had a neck pour of Springfield and really liked it. Sensory overload and proofy, so I'm not surprised Kurt wasn't enamored, but if you like the Beam profile, I suggest at least trying a pour.
I not only liked it, I told several people it was the best batch I had tried in a while. That said, I have only ever had maybe four different releases. I now have a third of a bottle left of the original Springfield I cracked and two more waiting in the wings.
You should try the 24-2 "house batch" of bookers. It is probably the least Bookers, bookers i have had. Lots of delicate sweeter notes, fuji apple carmel, cinnimon, and lighter than normal oak, not drying, and very drinkable, not hot. I like aggressive bookers batches, this is not that. I really enjoy it though, and for a non bookers guy, this might appeal more than most batches.
I got the last Bernie from last year B923 and liked it. I still like my EC and Larceny special releases too but to Trenton’s point the Bernie is a nice smooth easy sipper. Sometimes you are just in the mood for that.
Looking for the 12 year rye. I’d never buy a Fireball ever I am not a mixer so no reason to get it. And the others just never come around my area so not something I’m looking for. Great job on your editing and graphics.
I feel the same way about Bulleit Rye... it's great but I wish they would do 102 proof or something.. It's not watery but it leaves a little something to be desired. Fireball "Small Batch" - that's hilarious.
You guys LOVED the Jim beam old overholt Cask Strength 10 year rye. So did I. Don't remember your opinions on the Hardins creek Boston/frankfort/Clermont though.
I think if someone is really passionate about the taste of Big Red gum, it makes sense this is their idea of heavenly. I can relate because I'm that way with marshmallow, and I'm waiting perpetually to see if any more whiskey brands attempt a marshmallow flavored one.
@@ChristopherNeemei love marshmellow notes. I wouldnt want a marshmellow flavored whiskey, because usually anything flavored is too sweet and thick, but i really enjoy a bourbon or rye when i get a nice marshmellow note. Wish there was more out there and the note came through a good bit more. Theres some, like michters toasted barrel proof rye where some days it will be there and some days it isnt. I wasnt a big fan of it at first, but after a couple months it got better. I had a pour a couple weeks ago and it was so good and the marshmellow note came through quite a bit. I was so impressed with it, the next day i went up to my bros and brought it with me, he was like you're crazy god it didnt get much better and i dont get the marshmellow. I was pretty disappointed because he was right. Weird how whiskeys and our palates can change so much day to do. I wish i could predict which days it would taste as good as it did the day before i brought it up to my bros so i could enjoy the rest of the bottle tasting that good and not waste it on days it taste like it did at my brothers haha
@@jacksmith2315 Yeah I know what you mean with the comparison of added artificial flavoring to mere flavor notes from the aging process but I like both variations, just at different times. I can understand having a preference for only one as well. I'm not much of a fan of ryes, so I wish I could especially find more bourbons that have the marshmallow aspect. Hotel Tango from Michigan makes a good flavored marshmallow whiskey if you ever come across it though, that's the only one I've seen.
I grabbed a Bulleit Rye 12 last week here in central Texas. I pick up a bubblegum aroma and flavor. In a good way, it is very tasty. Not my favorite rye but Id buy it again. Pretty sure I paid $50 plus tax.
love to see more such blinds! Do you finish the samples you’re tasting every show? Sometimes they might be way too much.. super interested in knowing what happens to all the tasting pours 😊
Great video! Like the detailed graphics! Bulliet Rye is pretty good might try the 12yr! I get Booker’s for 72.00 from a owner friend so I will probably pick one up:)
Jim Beam Double Oak at $26 in Pennsylvania or the Old Tub at $20…those are my favorite Jim Beam products for every day pours. My wife loves the Devil’s Cut.
@@seangallagher7150 So the Woodford is a different animal to the Jim Beam. But I do like both. It’s just the Jim Beam is half the price and if I want to mix it, I’m not wasting better bourbon lol
Id like to see your thoughts on the bookers when it opens up. Sounds like it could be really good if that cardboard flavor dulls or goes away after a couple-few weeks. Apprentice batch i was not a fan of at first. Even the second time i tried it after a couple weeks. But the third time i tried it after a few months its was ok. Definitely not as good as the kentucky tea batch, but not terrible.
I am really looking forward to the fireball old fashioned video. I am in the minority and like the Apprentice Batch. I get a nice shortbread cookie from it

Had a chance to try that Rye while out west visiting my daughter and it was delicious. Surprised me also. Nice add on the fireball 😂. 30 bucks I’m grabbing if seen.
13:41 I've been hearing the correct pronunciation for so many years that I can't swear to it, but I really think that when I was little everyone I knew said it pot-POUR-ee. 🙂 21:59 If by "wheater" you mean a wheated bourbon, no, it's not. 🙂 It's a wheat whisky, meaning it's at least 51% wheat (and IIRC Bernheim is a barely legal wheat whisky).
Someone check Trenton's glass. Make sure he has what's been poured. Minty toilet paper?? I think his sniffer is broken. Not sure I'd buy whiskey with tasting notes of minty toilet paper or wet cardboard?! But it does make watching fun. SLB and Whiskey Tribe are my two favs on whiskey/boubon review videos.
Trenton if you dont care the the normal Bulliet rye you should try Dickel rye because its the same mgp mashbill on double charcol mellowed and is so much better and 22 msrp! id love to see what your opinion on the dickel rye is cause i love it!
Always seems to be a bottle or two in PA somewhere, and I've seen it on the shelf a time or two... but I've generally heard it's a bit overpriced for what it is and haven't ever grabbed one. I've had pours of little book Cpt 1... and I like it, but even it makes me go "$100 a bottle? Hmm..." And that's a $800 bottle now.
I like these videos where one of you knows what is in each glass but doesn't already have an opinion! To me, the "woody" note is not a good thing (like "Oaky" notes); as woody to me is like chewing on a No. 2 pencil (like Evan Williams BiB). But sometimes, all that is needed to tone-down "woody" is to add a splash of Mellow Corn!
I'm not a massive fan of the Bulleit 12 year rye either. It's a great value buy and even better in my area. It's $49.99-52.99 at most stores but one store has it for $42.99. For that price I'll buy two backups just to have them around since it a limited run. Last time they released the 12 year rye it sold out and didn't come back for like 2 years.
I noticed you all never add a drop several drops of water to your pours, especially the higher proofs to allow them to open up the floral and tasting notes a little more. What is the reasoning behind that, just curious? Enjoying the video...
Hmm, this one smells like cinnamon, wow, this one has a really cinnamon nose as well....what is this last one, ooh super cinnamon.. oh, Fireball. Always entertained by your interactions. I wonder if the first three would have a different result if the fireball was not there close by?
2023 was not a pleasant year for me and Bookers. I feel like they've hit a point where they feel obligated to release 4 a year. The "It's ready, when it's ready." pitch has taken a huge dive. I agree, a 1 or 2 release a year would be worth the money. KC 12 is a much better, consistent, and reliable purchase.
A $100 ! Wow 😮 don’t throw away your money 💰, we’re on the the verge of a recession 😮the markets are ready to crash 😅 save your money and drink some vodka 😅 and stock up on toilet paper 🧻
