”There’s Always a Place for You at Our Table” - Chechen cuisine.
The workshops and an open meeting took place on the 30th of July 2022 in the gardens of the Ethnography Department of the Gdańsk National Museum.
Zargan Nasordinova comes from Chechnya. She is a Muslim and mother of four children. She arrived in Poland to escape the war. She traveled thousands of kilometers to find herself in Poland. She always asks the question: does a Muslim woman have the right to be happy in a Christian country? She has 186 stitches on her abdomen. These are traces of her suffering. 186 Stitches is also a title of a book in which Anna Kaszubska describes Zargan’s painful experience. Zargan lives in Warsaw, working, making pierogi, manti, cakes. During the workshop, we made okroshka soup, chepalgash breads, manti with pumpkin and potatoes.
The recipes are available at: schronienie.mng.gda.pl/schron...

The programme carried out in 2022 entitled “There’s Always a Place for You at Our Table” presented the cooking culture of contemporary settlers, immigrants who have come to Poland in the 21st century. The presentation was done through workshops, dialogue, narrative. The workshops were attended both by the people from Tri-City and by tourists.
We invited everyone who wanted to learn how to cook originally foreign, sometimes exotic dishes, but also, or perhaps mostly, those interested in the newcomers, who found it interesting to discuss cuisines, home, longing, the way they absorb Poland into their lives and their food.
Professional and curator supervision: Monika Kucia.
Event partner: KUKBUK.PL.
The programme entitled “There’s always a place for you at our table” took place within the project “The Shelter. Climate, Migrations, Heritage”, co-funded with the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the “Culture” Programme, Measure 2 “Improvement of art and culture accessibility”.
We promote the zero waste concept and pro-environmental attitudes. We appreciate traditions. We learn about the culture of the region and folk cultures of other countries. We want to educate through arts and crafts. We connect children, youth and adults with male and female artists, folk creators and museum people.
We work together for a green, competitive Europe, supporting social inclusion.
