2 DAYS IN THE MAN CABIN. CRAZY ICE ROADS

I have to take a crazy ice road to the cabin. It's melting super fast and water is everywhere. It's still safe, but it's definitely at the end of its life this year. When I get to my cabin, I'm dealing with mice, eating steak, protecting my cabin and watching northern lights.

Hi Jay, love the channel and am a subscriber. Also x-Goose Bay resident as well, dad was posted there in the early 70’s so remember when there was the CAF, RAF and USAF all up there on the base. Anyway, I have the same propane stove as you in my RV. Your pilot lite won’t ignite because there is air in the lines when you first hook up the propane bottle. All you need to do is turn on a burner and hold your bbq lighter to it. Once the burner lights you have purged all the air out of the lines. Turn off the burner and your pilot lights will lite right away. Hope that makes it easier to get them going. Take care old son!

When I was a kid, I am 77 now, we called these flies cluster flies. It was a common problem in the old farm houses. In the fall these flies come in and stay dormant till spring, then they emurge

Jay, a suggestion to help your fishing. Drag a small dead tree out on the ice. Mark where it is. When the ice melts, obviously it will fall to the lake bed. Instant structure for bait fish AND predator fish. Happy fishing.

yes an outhouse is always a good thing to have ... I suggest making a wood shed storage shed work shed combo to start .. then you can use an alskan mill to make more lumber as needed from cut trees ... you store your firewood and stuff to be used for building ... and your tools ... all close to where they get used most ... and finally add on the crapper and poof you can get a load off and pick up a load for the fire place and even do work in the same spot ... essentially just make a pole barn style wood cover add a shed on the end for tools and working in cooler weather with a hot tent stove ... for cooking and warmth ... and slap a composting toilet on the back side for natures call .... with that done your cabin renovations then become easier as the work place is setup already and it's close by the cabin ... make the shed large enough to park the snowmobile inside as well ... then in winter when it is cold you can keep the hot tent stove going on low overnight so the machines stay warm all night in the freeing temps ... this also makes a great place to put the generator setup out of the way and close to everything also ... and eve lets you slap a bunch of solar panels on the work shed roof to keep your power station recharging as needed ... also the work shed area is a great place to make log benches for sitting people at around a bonfire ... and the benches double as sawhorses for working on as well .;) keep your sawdust ... aside from great fire starter it is also great for laying in wet pits to backfill and rot down into soil ... and it also grips great in mud ...

I remember very well, I was in Brazil in Manos, we repaired a power plant boiler, got the order for a new boiler system for the turbines and power distribution at the output of the power plant. It was in February, at the end of the seventies. In the Quebec region there was a pipe rupture in a power station and the former English service company Hangkok Wilkok went on strike. We often had 40°C in Manaos, when we landed in Montral it was almost 40°C below zero. To Montreal by cab, nice and warm, but only because we changed our clothes at the airport in Montreal. At the hotel in Quebec, a good half bottle of cognac, a hot bath and then a great steak. The job done in a few days and back to the warmth. Almost 50 years ago, where has the time gone? It makes you think, Jay - soak it all up - you'll remember it and always remember it. - Greetings from Frankfurt. Gerold

Invest in a chainsaw mill Jay. Harvest the dead standing to help with fire prevention and use those logs to make lumber for future projects. I bought one a couple years ago and it paid for itself in two trees worth of lumber. Build the shed big enough to hold your snow machine and a 4 wheeler. With a 4 wheeler you can harvest logs during the summer on your island/peninsula.

*What you did this episode really left me scratching my head. I think you made a really poor decision taking your Skidoo out on the melting ice. Every year, around this time, we see news reports of Winter riders falling through the ice and their severely decomposed bodies are not found until months later by some sports fisherman. I am glad you made it alright to your cabin.*

I KNEW IT. You are breaking up with us!!!! Jk…..I was referring to your ice break up. You have to be careful with a fur baby. But my Dad use to put decon under the main floor of our cabin to help keep mice out. There are also trap where you can put the Devon inside & they can crawl in there & eat the Devon but your pet can not. They are sneaky little things & don’t care what they destroy to make a nest. Maybe until you can get back out to the cabin you can share a little of what life is like on grid. Maybe come up with plans on what all you plant to do once you get back out there. Make up a list & come up with a draft of how & where you will put all of it. Then when the time comes you got it all planned out. Stay safe!

Get a pipe filter to clean out the lines because spider webs will prevent the gas from flowing threw. Our bush camp was hard to get to so we painted our plywood to seal all around the sheets. Even when doing the floors. It protects even our 2x4's 2x6' seal it all before bring to camp

Hey Jay. I enjoy all of your videos. I have the same stove as you at my cabin (outside of Goose Bay). The propane tank is about 15 feet away from the stove. When I try to light it, it takes a long time for the pilot to light, so what I do it turn a burner on and light that first. It gets the propane through the lines quick, and then I light the 2 top pilots and oven pilot. This may or may not be your issue, but hopefully it is.

Hey Jay , great video I don’t miss a video, finally figured out how to subscribe a few weeks ago, lol, anyway I’m from Cape Breton Island on the EastCoast of Canada, I see your stove is giving u a bit of a headache, disconnect the line where your pressure regulator attaches to the propane line going into the cabin. Then just take small 2lb compressor and blow out the line , I thinks it’s a combination of flaking inside the old stove lines and moisture just beyond the pressure regulator. Keep up the great work, Cheers
