@@HuntingTarg Jim Rohn is the true author of the quote son: "We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons."
I doubt you would share my opinion on the matter, but I do recall Jesus supposedly said something on that topic... “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. My kingdom is from another place” I’m afraid I can’t remember the chapter and verse off the top of my head (it’s been a VERY long time since I was a Sunday school teacher 😉😅😅 to quote from your favourite book again “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me”) but from his own words it’s still pretty clear even Jesus himself wouldn’t have agreed with you on that one 😉😂😂✌️🤘🖖
@@Godless_Guru John 18:36 But if "The Meek shall inherit the Earth" then I'd presume that at some future point Jesus does redeem the Earth and open the scroll. I'd say your comment was in error.
Young Christian and new gun owner. My pastor and his kid have all started shooting together and are all noobs. We found your channel and have really enjoyed it. You are stern and sincere, it is obvious you are not messing around. What we like most is you are a gentleman about it. We have started to use your videos and tips and go over safety each time we go out, the way you teach it. Thank you for you time, advice and videos. We truly appreciate it. God Bless. My "goal" (habit) I am going to start working on first is my morning routine. Up early & Bible study w/ one of Gods greatest gifts, coffee.
“I’m acting like I just got here; I’ve been here for hours, we just thought it’d be more engaging for me to walk down the street, carrying an African war club.” 🤣😂 the realities of good video-filming 👌🏻 Awesome content, definitely needed the reminder - I’ve had great discipline in the past but I’ve dealt with some health issues for several months and I’ve let a few areas of discipline such as my workout routine slip off the wagon 😐 Time to get back on it!
Thanks John, in 2020 I’m gonna be a better husband and father to my wife and kiddos. Gonna invest ample quality time in my family. I try to do that anyway but, this year I need to make more of an effort to put work aside and just do a better job of being a great dad and husband. Thanks for all the work you do.
Benjamin Eadie, so far, so good. At least I still get to sleep in the bed. 😉😉 But really, it’s going great. We have 5 kids (25 yrs boy/girl twins, 24 yrs girl/girl twins and a 17 yr old boy that we adopted when he was born).Only the 17 yr old lives at home. But with the virus going around out of the oldest set of twins, the girl and out of the youngest twins is working at hospitals. They are going to school for RN. The boy of the oldest twins and the other girl of the younger twins works outside the house. My youngest boy helps me with my woodworking business. I’ve been taking it easy with the business and doing stuff as a family. Everyone has a day that they can pick what they want to do. As in yesterday, for example, we all went fishing. The day before that the wife and I went to a park and hand fed wild squirrels and looked at the flowers. The flowers were her idea but the squirrels were mine. My grandpa and I used to do that at the lake. I had about 20 of the around me and maybe 10 up in my lap. We had a good time. But we’ve been doing stuff like that as a family when the kids don’t have to work.
Great video! My priest gave me this advice about my writing (and my prayer life). The way he phrased it was, "Consistency first. Quality will follow." I'm trying to get back into my old habit of writing 30 min a day, even if it's garbage, and maintaining my daily prayers, even when I'm distracted.
John doesn’t know it, but it was like he was talking directly at me. Scary. God told me to watch this first thing with my coffee so I did. I’m an old man and need some new habits. John, God uses you in that moment to reach and old vet. Thank you!
Good vid. "Every man should sit in quiet contemplation for 20 minutes every day. Unless he is too busy. Then he should sit for an hour." Mental rehab is important. Morning is best.
I enjoy cigars for that reason, go outside sit back and just think for an hour or so. Having the cigar keeps you from mentally wondering too far and keeps you aware because you have a simple task to do keeping it lit and simple actions that keep you physically engaged. You can keep on track and really go through and solve life’s things just by thinking about them.
So can't necessarily say I'd do that but all day Saturday and Sunday morning in the deer stand, that's my mental rest/ de stress time. Then I'm clear and relaxed for Sunday afternoon with the wife. After deer season still use my crow and coyote hunting for the same purpose
Man, I had to pause this video. I just want to say thank you for all you do I absolutely love and respect the fact that you are not afraid to stand on your beliefs and speak the beautiful name of Jesus Christ. Truly, I wish more influencers would not be afraid to share their beliefs about Christ to many have the attitude that they can’t mix Christianity and Christ values with their channel but we are all called to be disciples, and to speak the truth. Thank you brother love your channel and all you stand for.❤❤❤❤
I'm striving to focus more on my health. I'm in relatively good shape. I'm turning 30 in 2020 and as a provider and role model for my 3 young sons I need set a good example. To anyone reading this, my statements don't hold much value but the simple act of stating my intentions on a public forum makes me feel more accountable for my actions or inactions.
Habits I want to form for this year. 1- Exercise. I will start with 10 minutes a day, and work up to 30 minutes. 2- Read for work. 30 minutes a day. (job is an academic desk type job, so it will develop my job knowledge.) 3- Dry fire my pistol and rifle every day. 3 minutes of each. 4- After work time, walk away from the work. Be with my family, not at work. They are good goals. 1 is for me. 2 is for work. 3 is for my protector development. 4 is for my family. I think its a good combination.
Why not 10 minutes of pistol a day and like 20 minutes of rifle once a week. Your pistol is what you are likely to use to defend yourself because it is what you have with you daily.
I don't know how to do any of type 4, if I get into anything (which is hard) but if I do, it's really hard to mentally disengage afterwards. So for the rest of the day I'd be thinking it over and over again. The way I like to accomplish things is by doing a little bit of all the things I wanne do, so it's hard when I can't disengage and transition into another topic.
John you are hands down the most inspiring person that I have listened to in a long time there is no doubt that you are a good man people who know you are very lucky
Just had to dig this video out again just to say thank you. My life was on a serious downturn and I was feeling really down about everything, this video among a couple of others have me words of encouragement I didn't realise I needed. Fast forward seven months to today and I couldn't feel better about myself, there's a longer trail to hike up ahead but I'm ready to tackle it head on. Thanks again you beautiful bunch of bastards.
Many peoples dreams and aspirations become their identity. Talking about who they aspire to be. But so many are crippled by the fear-spending a lifetime waiting on the “right” time, looking for the right circumstances, up until the dream fades away into the sunset-forever.
I just found your Channel and I'm glad I did. I just purchased my first firearm (M&P Shield). I'm in California so we have a 10 day wait. Just a few days out. I believed God brought me to your channel. The video that popped up was 5 things a new gun owner should know. Very informative. So I then went on to watch more videos and here I am. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in this field. Looking forward to future videos.
If you're gonna go for a burger, go for a quality craft burger. Ultimately better for you, and is worthy of a cheat meal, while not being 100% garbage for you.
@@valiant545 I convinced my coworkers to head to the market and get some 80/20 beef, cook up some burgers in the kitchen the other night. Alternatively, they could have gone to McDonald's and eaten a bunch of crap. Instead, we chowed down on some excellent home cooked burgers with all the fixings. It wasn't as healthy as a nice fresh salad with some baked chicken breast and homemade vinaigrette, but it was good eats and a damned sight better than any fast food joint.
@@0num4 Absolutely! I don't closely monitor what I eat. I just aim for healthier options and more protein when I can. I eat chicken a LOT but if I have a burger or some good pasta now and then who cares?
Man, you hit all avenues with me. You’re a very well rounded guy. I really appreciate your channel and all the effort and time you put into it. Thank you.
This is a really practical vid, thanks...."Discipline is doing what you don't want to do right now so you can get what you really want later" - Maxwell.
"we thought it'd be more engaging to walk down the street with an African war club." I don't know how, but I'm gonna find a way to use that in conversation today.
Okay finished the video, and now I see there is not something but someone in you that brings forth that light. Great video bro. Gonna wake up early and continue my habit of reading.... Galations 2:20... nevertheless not I, but Christ liveth in me. Love what your doing with this channel bro. Don’t stop.
When the video started I was thinking up posting about how research has shown that building habits is more effective than trying to have better discipline. Glad I waited.
What an insight. In a highly specialized society, many are singularly focused on their careers and neglect other aspects of life. True discipline through practice is a necessary building block of an abundant life.
I am in my late 50s, and out of shape. In the past few months I established a good daily walking habit (3-5 miles/day) and an okay healthy eating habit. This week my wife and I started a 3 day a week body weight workout routine. So that (working out) is my and my wife's newest habit we hope to maintain. Wish us luck.
That is very uplifting to hear--good on you and the wife for taking steps to lead healthier lives! I am very pleased to hear that your wife is getting in on it too, since getting in shape is a lot easier when you have someone else to work out with you. The secret to developing a good exercise routine is to have fun doing it. Make your workouts fun, and you will find that doing them will come second nature. And remember that late 50s is _not_ "old" by any stretch of the word.
Liked the video - esp. regarding micro habits. My only quibble is over goals vs. habits. It doesn’t have to be an either/or thing. Make your goals and then identify the habits that will get the goals done. It seems to me that part of successful discipline is being patient - habits take time to install and like you said, the best way is to scale them: start small and add to them when the habits are part of you.
Habits are good. another little tip is find someone to commit to a goal with. it's hard to force yourself to go to the gym when sitting on the couch is easier, but if you're meeting a friend at the gym, it's suddenly way harder to cancel on that friend and let them down. one of the cool things in the COVID quarantine ive been doing with my Fiancee is reading outside (for me it's my textbook because finals start tomorrow, but I hope to keep it going after next week) for just a little bit. we grab the dog, pop up our little chairs on the lawn, and just read far away from distractions.
A habit I developed is not snacking after supper. So many added health benefits that I never expected. My indigestion, gas and other health problems have stopped a few days after I started that habit.
Great video. Taking this type of approach to physical fitness has always been great for me (even if I get lazy at times). But starting off at what you can accomplish and slowly ramping it up can do wonders for progress.
Doggies John, you named my three favorite candies! When the wife asks me if I want anything from the store I tell her no, even though inside I'm craving those Skittles. Living an undisciplined life is very costly spiritually, mentally, physically and financially. Good stuff Leonidas!
Habits- 1.Pray and meditation for 20 minutes starting and growing in that area. 2. Exercise- Start with circuit training for 20 minutes every other day then move up to 30, etc. 3.Read twice a day for 20 minutes. I have a lot of books i saved from work that i wanna read. 4. Start eating healthier and control my diabetes. I will be no good to myself or anyone if i cant control my health. I have all these habits i can start forming but with a broken hand i cant do much. I can substitute though. Thank You John! Also i sent an email about your training courses please let me know if you got it! You blessing you 👍🏼
I'm trying to get myself to do meditation to help my adhd addled mind, but I'm terrible at making new habits. These tips may be just the thing that I need. Thank you.
Thanks. After writing 3 novels I've been struggling for a full year to get back into it. I was really getting discouraged. The idea of writing 15 minutes a day for a month, making that a habit, sounds like a brilliant idea. I'll try it!
I enjoy your videos and your approach. I appreciate that you have a strong personal faith and respect whatever path someone else might be on at the same time.
John I’m very happy with your videos very uplifting and informative , awesome teaching and thank you!!!!!! For your service your a awesome warrior and family man it’s refreshing to watch videos from a guys guy with your qualities , without the stupid profanity, hope to one day meet you and shake your hand ,I live my life along the same lines as you , love God , family , America and of course Guns
I love it when these young bad asses. Teach me. One is only taught according to one's Fitness to learn🇺🇸 Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. My sobriety quitting smoking cigarettes And getting the hell out of Shelby, Montana. These people are demons.
Very good info. forming habits is a good idea. I did not realise till I watched this but have been doing this. After I left the Army I was lost. I gained 35kg lost my wife and kids. I set little goals for the day. I would wake up at 7. Go for a 30 minute walk. 5 press ups and 30 sit ups. In a chance meeting with a old Army buddy, he told me that they had a opening at his work and I would be a great fit. I got the job. The habits changed so I now do 1 hour walking. 50 press ups and 100 sit ups a day. I have lost 23kg but have also gained muscle. I joined a weekly Taekwondo class (McDojo I know!) which I really look forward to now. I have swapped my sweets for assorted nuts that are my go to snack now. I believe that I think the habits you create has a knock on effect of growing confidence which help you become more motivated and of course attractive
Waking up early and working out. That's something I need to do. I'm not a morning person. My body takes so long to "wake up". even if I get a 7or8 hours of sleep, I'm still tired. Iv gotten pretty fat. So hopefully getting into better shape will help that.
You had me at Jesus comment! Love it. Thanks for advice I’ll do my best! As a artist that’s the son of a Marine... lol oh boy, he says I suffer from PPP... Piss Poor planning... I need to plan out, and stick to it. Habits, I’ll try and make it habits! Happy New Year! Love the new office.
I thought that was a gaffi stick that John took from a fallen Tusken Raider. Not that I subscribe to Dr Phil, but even a broken clock is right twice a day; he once said that you should break down your goals into the required tasks and every day make it a point to work on the tasks that can be done that day with no excuses for putting them off. Goals are easier to achieve once you break it down to the tasks and incorporate them into your existing lifestyle (as routines or habits). I wouldn't say goals are overrated, but they should be attainable and you need to plan your path.
Very good!! Thank you for sharing this!! I like it. Start small with creating a habit and go from there... I do well with food but not so well with time in the Word and with exercise.. too busy taking care of kids and cleaning house. Lol. But I can start small and create a habit... Then go from there!! ❤️👍
My biggest issue is I am a big bag of injuries. Everything from shoulder surgeries to bad knees. Sucks the motivation when it comes to physical fitness.
