These motors are super reliable. I don't know why people are saying they break down all the time? I have had 3 96,97, and 98 GST's and I never had major problems with any of them. My first eclipse was at 26 lbs of boost on the stock Garret t25 and stock everything besides a bltz bov and a borla exhaust. Great cars and great engines. Super Super easy to work on. Great video. Great Car!
Glad to hear not everyone who likes muscle cars wishes death upon all imports. We're all into flashy stuff that moves fast and makes loud noises, might as well band together
Chevy Cavalier... LOL!😂😂😂 You know how to kick off a video, JD!👊 This is a nice example of a GSX, man. I just don't see these very often anymore. Cool build, Andrew!👍That upper rpm pulling power is what I like best.💪 Enjoyed the video, JD. Y'all have a great weekend!
Even in stock form with the tiny turbo these cars have a bit of classic lag which actually feels awesome, hahaha. Hopefully will have mine up and running in the next couple weeks.
I bought the car in tupelo for $750 bucks in June of 2015 without a motor. Then the next weekend I bought a parts car Oklahoma for $650 that had a 6 bolt motor, black leather, and brand new clutch, etc. Not a bad way to spend your life savings at 15😂
Most 15 year olds don't have life savings unless your mom gives you a few bucks a month for doing chores. Which night club are you shaking your ass at under the table?
eurosonly. I've Always saved my birthday and Christmas money. Hell I haven't ate lunch at school since 6th grade. So yeah she gives me a few bucks a day to eat but I save it. Never got payed for chores either. I'm not your typical brat that gets everything handed to them. So yeah buddy not everyone is full of shit.
I bought a '97 Eagle Talon TSi AWD back in 2003 and it was the car I learned tuning on. Over the past 14 years I've moved on to bigger and better projects, but I've kept the Eagle and will never sell it. I still take it out once in a while and have a blast doing so. At various times I've also had a 1st gen Eclipse GSX and Dodge Stealth TT AWD. There is just something about DSM's that's special. Great cars. Thanks for the great video and showing there's more to these cars than the Fast and Furious nonsense that usually gets attached to them.
Beautiful car. Makes me miss my 97 GST. I love my Evo and wouldn't trade it for anything, but if I ever had an opportunity to get another gen 2 I would. There so much fun to drive
Hey just wannna say, GREAT JOB on the editing, especially with putting short video clips of whatever it is that y'all are talking about. Very nice touch to your vid. Really makes it feel that much more professional. Keep it up. New subscriber here!
I was in a machining class with this guy when I was going to NOVA in Manassas. I had a 97 GSX Burgundy color at the time. Good to see your success brotha!!
dude keep this 2G theyre getting rare especially the GSX, you have a truth street gem in your hands CHERISH IT!!!! FOREVER!! Your super lucky to have a clean, strong running True DSM!!
Once again a shout out to you for keeping the music at a reasonable level I've had to drop smurfinwrx because it's just not cool or fun to watch his videos anymore . yer awesome and can't wait to see what's next ☺
I've fallen in love with this car and can't wait to get rid of my hatch. Almost got that sucker paid off! I'll be all 90s from then on out. See you goons on the streets!
Had that same year but was a gst. Started with the same color but ended up getting a dark gunmetal paint job. Had about 400 hp. I miss the car but damn to many issues. Brings back memories.
import = Japanese to 99% of people You can call it a Talon being the reasoning for you thinking it's not an import. But Eagle/Crystler imported these and other models from Japan and re-badge'd them.
Had a 90 Laser w/ 94 Talon rear taillights/bumper conversion and a 92 Eclipse front end. 18g Turbo. Bunch of buschur parts. 450whp. FWD. I chewed thru tires and clutches and then once I started having synchro issues I sold it. Was a fuckin blast and was the car I learned first to handle power.
I love the gst and gsx. I had a green gst spider and i loved it. a good buddy of mine had a big turbo gst and a red gsx when I was younger . I wish I would have kept mine
back when I was 19 I had a chance to buy one off a lady who had no clue what her car was for 4 grand. I had a part time job at the time and going to college and only had 2k saved up... I still think about it from time to time. Wish I could've bought it.
Apart from all evo or not and engine discussions, i fell in love with this car's look when first time i saw nfs underground intro. It's been almost 15 years and it's still my favorite. Also this one looks good. Simple but elegant. Everybody knows eclipse from fast and furious and that was pretty ugly. I mean this car is not for all that exaggerated kits and glossy colors.
I just bought a riced out '98 eclipse gs and I plan to turbocharge it, convert it from auto to a manual, put on the original body kit with the gsx spoiler, and some other stuff. Really cool car btw hope mine ends up as clean as yours.
Ian Mathews not so much the 2g's but the 1g's A lot in common with evo' s they share the same suspension. When I ordered my coilovers for my 1g dsm I ordered for a evo 8,9. Only the rear bushings need modified. The engines in the dsm's, galant vr4's, and evo's are the same 4g63t engine code. The evo 4/9 is a newer version but things like rod, pistions, throttle bodies, mad sensor, valve springs, 2g dsm 97/99 can plug a evo 8/9 right into it, and more interchange between the two. The galant 1989 was firts then dsm in the states in 1989, and evo1 later on in 1992. The evo123 have the same 4g63t engine as the galant vr4 and dsm because they used the platform and drive train from the galant vr4 because the galant was fist and paved the way for later. From August 1996 the evo4 up thru the evo9 ending in 2007 they used the updated engine still labeled a 4g63t in the cars. October 2007 when the evo10 was released it no longer carried the builtprof 4g63r. the new evo10 was equipped with a new all aluminium engine called a 4bll and they are not the same. regardless the version of the 4g63, dsm 4g or evo 4g they can both be tunned to the same power levels, but the older 4gs are faster and quicker! 😉. look up any record that 4g63's have a complished. The majority are the older 4g63's in old dsm's that put in the work. 1/2 mile record and quarter mile, fastest and quickest record. A 2g eclipse holds the record for fastest awd manual car period in world.
Ian Mathews actually this motor the 99 split thrust, uses the exactly same design of a block as the evo. The 99 is as close to evo motor wise as you can get. Yes different orientations etc but similar. Where these cars differ is in suspension and turning. But I'm working on that ;)
Very nice, switch turbo to any FP color series and will spool way quicker, same power levels too. I have one of the cleanest and fastest vr4 galants #256/1000.
//AWRproductions Hi there how's it going. I live in Colorado, mile high, and ran a 10.67 @ 127mph in the 1/4 mile. You can make over 500awhp with a Fp Black and over 600awhp with a Fp Red. I love your car, But you should look at 1/4 mile times, forms, for a street car Fp turbo is the fastest spool 25000-3000 rpm full boost, guaranteed to beat any evo/dsm with the same build or power levels and a different turbo. They are built for dsm/evo and Sti . But keep the dsm/4g63 game going
500AWHP VR4-GALANT pretty sure the black is bigger then the red. And iv seen both in action and driving. Don't get me wrong they are awesome turbos bolt on quick spool good top end but there is a limit. On e and such sure they can crack up to 500 ish, but over working the turbo at that point. I no my setup is very laggy and I said that but it's fun for what it is and works for now. And when I get my new manifold from eaton motorworks and a efr spool and power will be awesome
JohnnyGT I purposely don't drive the cars for a different experience from all the other RU-vid car reviewers. This way you guys get to meet the owner of the car and not just see the same person driving different cars.
Beautiful! If eclipse comes back with a 30 years anniversary car that is turbo and all wheell drive and really nice looking car like this......i would totally buy it. Mitsubishi doesn't see that there so many people that want a come back of this car but this way, not an eco car, eclipse is a sport car nobody needs an eco sport car, is ridiculous....
I have a 1997GSX 44,368 miles on it and all I did was change the oil. I have no problem with it and I get 18 pounds of boost and I try to sell it for 4000 but as soon as I tell them, it takes hi text gas only I never hear from nobody it’s never seen snow. I bought it brand new 25 years ago for $23,743. I am is the only owner.
Older video but curious what kinda experiences the owner has had with those trans. I just bought a GSX as well and the trans stories scare me to death. I have a evo 10 as well.
Fwd to awd conversions are hell. Youre better off dealing with fwd til you buy an awd shell and just swap your motor. Ive owned 3 first gen dsms, 2awd 1fwd
