Stress in pronunciation of English words
😀💯 Easy Ways to Improve Pronunciation: use correct word stress with these 2 rules
1. For 2-syllable nouns and verbs:
the stress is usually on the first syllable if it’s a noun
the stress is usually on the second syllable if it’s a verb

Unfortunately in English there are no consistent rules. For every "rule" in English, there are like "one million" exceptions. So I will give some Examples that illutraste perfectly how English can be misleading sometimes. For two syllable words (usually nouns and adjectives) the stress is often on the first syllable. Some exceptions (with the stress on the seconda syllable) guit TAR ho TEL e XAM bal LOON lag GOON sur PRISE mas SAGE ga RAGE Two syllable verbs often have the stress on the second syllable. Some exceptions are: HAP pen FIN nish MEN tion BOTH er and so on. Oh I almost forgot. What's the problem with the word "television"? Even though it ends with the -sion suffix , I often hear native speakers stressing the first syllable " TEL evision" instead of stressing the second to last Syllable "tele VI sion".

Yes, for sure this is one “rule” that has many exceptions. I usually tell my students that this is a pattern, not a rule.
