These KLM pilots started the engines by 3+4 at the same time and there after1&2 at the same time. Because of the strong APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) is has. That's one of the unique things about the -400 series.

Its done on a 747 since each engine take longer to start than it would on a twinjet, and there are 4 of them in total

The b747-400 has a great APU. This is why it is possible to start both engines simultaneously.

Actually it isn’t rare double engine starts happen all the time only GE CF6-80c2 can do double starts and the genx on the 747-8 Pw4000 equipped 747 can’t dual engine start

At 0:18 the bass sound is incredible, even better when you hear it inside the cabin. Did earlier versions of the 747 require each engine to be started separately? I think the procedure varies by airline. Some start one from each wing and then do the remaining two, others do as you see here by doing both on one side.

Yes indeed you are correct. The older versions such as the 200/300 did start one by one, but the -400 has an APU capable of starting 2 engines at the same time. But also depends on company requirements if they want their pilots to start 2 by 2 or 4 than 3 than 2 ect..

PW equipped 747 are unable to do dual engine starts , only cf6 and genx on the 747-8 Don’t know on a RR never worked on those
