These lifts are located in an office building near Berne, Switzerland. They were installed in 1991 upon construction of the building. The building has a very interesting architecture including a lot of glass and open spaces. The lifts are located in a dedicated lift-tower that is connected to the rest of the building via bridges on every upper floor. The motor room is located at the lowest basement -4.
All upper floors contain offices. The basement floors -1 and -2 contain a car park that belongs to the building. Floor -4 contains a large storage area. The doorways on floor -3 are boarded up with sheet metal. What lies on floor -3 is unknown. Floors -4, -3 and 4 are usually locked with a keycard.
Before the modernisation, these lifts had Miconic B controllers with Dynatron S drives. The bigger lift had a W200 winch, the smaller one a W163.
These lifts were modernised by Schindler in 2019, using only generic components. It is a very successful modernisation. The BP408 is a fully CANopen capable controller that communicates with all other components over CAN bus. The ZAdyn drive in combination with the BP408 levels fully intelligent.
Interestingly, both lifts have motors from different manufacturers. Both motors are gearless, which enables almost completely silent operation.
The lifts running in a combined shaft offers a great view of the cars going up and down. Also the shaft has been covered in wood wool boards for extra acoustic insulation.
Many thanks go to ‪@TecStuffLifts‬ for the assistance in the making of this video! Else this footage would not have been possible.

Great video, it's very rare to see Schindler with a ZATop gearless motor while the other elevator has a sassi motor, but overall it works great. It's a very good thing that Schindler repurposed the engine room itself with gearless, which is pretty rare.

Thank you! I really loved fiming this tbh, especially being in the pit and seing the cars move up and down looks great imo. Yes they did an excellent job here. Schindler usually installs ZAtop gearless and not Sassi gearless, which is good. ZAtop just is the much better and more durable motor. I have actually found a few of these gearless installs by now. There is another group of 1000kg lifts that are basically the same in this building (I will not upload these). Also the lifts at the Tscharnergut in Berne, which have now been replaced, have ZAtop motors. I was around Zürich today and I found some Schindler ZAtops there as well, also 1.6m/s but in 2:1 config.

Why there is lots of bottom drive lift in berne ?
@TheLiftDragon
@TheLiftDragon Год назад
Just because it makes more sense in some situations, there are generally lots of bottom drive lifts in Switzerland. It depends on the situation. This building here also has 3 very large freight lifts and they are top drive for example.
@kenan763

@@TheLiftDragon whats that situations? İ just wonder :)

@@kenan763 For example this one here obviously. I have included a photo of the lift tower from outside. It is much easier to build the MR into the basement hete, rather than putting it ontop of that tower with only the dimensions of the lift shaft. So this is an example for architectural reasons. That reason actually has become very common in the 80s and 90s, architects would not want extra structures on the roof. Then Berne has lots of historical buildings in the old town. Building a top drive there means sacrificing lift access to the top floor as the motor room can't stick out of the roof for monument protection reasons. So putting it in the basement can solve that problem. It has to be said though that there are many top drive lifts in Berns historical buildings but as I said, the top floor then is only accessible by stairs with a few exceptions. A setup with the motor room next to the top floor can also be found from time to time. I have such a video on my channel, it's a Design S mod on an old lift. Another reason to put the motor into the basement can be to move the motor noise away from the residents. Also acessibility is better, since in case of replacement of bigger parts is easier to haul the heavy equipment into the basement instead of to the top. Many buildings have underground car oarks, making a motor room at the bottom directly accessible without any stairs.

@@TheLiftDragon you right. İn turkey, there is a lot of apartment buildings. And all of them has top drive elevators. Also most of them has old 2 speed motor with loud contactor and brakes. So their noises really disturbing for top 2-3 floors especially late at night and early mornings...
@TheLiftDragon
@TheLiftDragon Год назад
@@kenan763 Yes indeed, that makes sense. I have seen that Turkey often has these weird pseudo-MRL lifts where the motor is basically a standard MR machine but it is mounted on metal beams in the shaft head with no floor underneath. Really strange, yet kinda fascinating since this saves lots of space compared to a full-size MR.

I really would have liked to see the unmodernized version of that lift but now it's too late...
@TheLiftDragon
@TheLiftDragon Год назад
Indeed, me too. I am very certain that they had M-Series buttons, which must have looked very nice. As for the motors and controllers, I know what these were originally and I've put it into the description. Luckily, I know other lifts from the 90s, also tall bottom drives, that are still original and they show what these lifts originally were like. They will be uploaded on my channel as well at some point.

@TheLiftDragon
@TheLiftDragon Год назад
@Swissvator

Dyn S drives from China Schindler Elevators ( aka CSE ) with motor and Mic B were of inferior quality. S type car and landing boards were not popular in Hong Kong.
@TheLiftDragon
@TheLiftDragon Год назад
The Dyn S and Mic B installed in Europe were made in Switzerland of course - and of very high quality. There are still many remaining today. S series lift cars were the budget line of Schindler compared to the more posh M series. These lifts here were M series.
