This was filmed 20 years ago, $500 went a lot further. It’s about $100-$150 a week for groceries now, would’ve been almost half that back then. 2 litres of milk was only $2 in that era 😳

Why struggle with all the extra weight? Is there no food in their home country? I would not even carry anything for myself, I just obey the rules as it's much easier. Only my purse as hand luggage. Folks stop giving grief to yourself. I love watching the show though just to see silly people.

The fine is due to Singapore Airlines not verifying that the guy had a valid Visa. Singapore dropped the ball, and will have to pay the above fine. I would imagine that the passenger will have to work out the cost of the return flight with the airline. A friend of mine who works for a US-based International airline told me that the airlines have to have a certain # of seats available on each International flight for use by each country's Border/Immigration Agency for officially deporting individuals. And yes, this means that passengers may involuntarily get bumped off the outbound flight to make room for the deportees. And if you happen to be flying Stand By/Space Available status (employees, family members, retirees, etc. on vacation), you'll be the first off the flight.

The next episode popped up and I was able to find out what happened to him, I had to come back and tell you in case you didn't see it. They called his Mum and sister, they confirmed his appearance and everything else he said about his trip and passport. They then had him admit his previous criminal record, which was not serious and happened when he was younger. They then allowed him to continue on his trip into Australia, so it ended good for him thankfully!
