In this video, I show the process of welding a Forever Bracelet, also known as a Promise Bracelet, Sparks Bracelet or an Infinity Bracelet, using the Orion Micro Welder mPulse model.
Note on Micro Welder I have used in this video:
Orion Micro Welder mPulse 30 is made by Sunstone Engineering, in the USA. Stones And Findings is a premier licensed distributor for Orion Micro Welders.
You can purchase it here 👉 bit.ly/orion-m...

The premise of this style of bracelet is that it is permanent. Often friends get matching bracelets, or that there is meaning attached to the bracelet and that it is permanent - forever. There is no clasp and the chain is welded straight around the wrist.
Often they are made with 10k or 14k solid gold, 925 silver or gold filled. I would not suggest plated chains as the plating might flake off and won't last as long.
My daughter wanted one of these bracelets and we selected a trendy paperclip chain style in 14/20k gold filled.
I measured her wrist and used a 24 ga 3mm jump ring as connection. It is important to know that the wires of the jump ring opening must be completely flush - the ends must touch in order to weld together since there is no solder being used. If you're using wire or home made jump rings, file the ends flat so they meet with the maximum amount of contact.
Use a piece of leather to protect the skin from any sparks or possible fly aways. If you don't have leather, use a thick piece of canvas or jean material - do not use synthetics like nylon, which will burn or melt.
Then I clip the ground (the alligator clip) to one side of the jump ring (away from the connection) and touch the electrode right on the seam I am trying to weld. I failed my first attempt by dialing to 12.5 Watts of power - it was far too powerful. The jump ring ends melted and shrivelled backwards.
In my second attempt, I dialed down to 7.5 Watts of power and it worked very easily. I noticed it still melted the jump ring more than necessary. After this video, I tried it again with 5 Watts and it was perfect. The electrode I used was 1mm. I know that Orion makes thinner electrodes, but this one worked without any problems.
Fire scale happens when oxygen burns. You'll have the same in soldering with a flame. There is an argon gas connector that you can purchase for all models of the Orion Micro Welder. I own one and I found that the puff of argon gas minimized the fire scale because it blew away the oxygen during welding. However, it did not eliminate it completely. It is also expensive to keep refilling the argon gas.
Hack - I used an eraser on the back of the pencil to rub away any fire scale. If you're using a chain that has many crevices and texture, you may wish to use a brush or soft steel wool to remove the fire scale.
Components I used:
Paper Clip chain 2mmx5.5mm gold filled (online product code CE01G)
Jump Ring 3mm 24 ga (0.51mm) gold filled (online product code FJ12G)

Have you tried to just weld the chain together? I am trying that and I feel its either not welding it or I'm missing it as it's tiny... but I think others do weld the chains.
@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings 2 года назад
I have done that before but it is tricky if the chain is very fine. The surface area for welding must be significant and both sides touching. Problem is that often the chain links are curved, so the surfaces of the ends touching are too small. U end up burning the chain and they curl backwards.

so hard to get the jump ring totally flushed touching , do they have to be 100% closed or touching without any gaps?
@stonesandfindings

THere is a way to close them with a pair of pliers by pivoting. I show the fails of welding and how it should be done. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ajhf8Pba-NE.html Yes, they have to close without gaps in order to weld - otherwise, you will have blow outs (gap becoming even bigger and the metal rolls gets balled up backwards).

I used a 4mm jump ring. You can certainly go smaller because you are welding it. The ideal would be that it matches the size of the chain and no you don’t notice the ring.

What kind of chain do you use? Plated,stainless or sterling?
@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings Год назад
In this video, I used American standard gold filled. It does not tarnish and there is at least 5% gold - you can see a more clear explanation of it in my video "can you weld gold filled". Do not ever use plated gold chains for permanent jewelry because it will tarnish in a matter of a couple of months. I have also welded many permanent bracelets in sterling (I have been wearing mine for about 9 months and post regular updates on instagram). I have never used stainless steel - there have been mixed reviews about that and it is generally regarded as an inferior product. Also a number of people have allergic reaction to it. I, for one, am allergic to stainless steel earrings.

Hi!! How do you attach the smaller chains that aren’t big enough to fit a jump ring?
@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings 2 года назад
You can ream the chain with a push pin /thumb tack. THis method works for many oval, curb or elongated chains. If you are not welding, then you can wire wrap a figure 8 wrap. I just posted the video yesterday.

@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings 7 месяцев назад
I'm sorry - it was one of my first attempts on filming. I've since filmed better ones with a proper phone clip. I hope you find the others clearer. Basically, you close the jump ring perfectly touching, and then place the electrode tip right on the seam. Here is a power setting chart with the Wattage you should use when welding various metals and thicknesses. if you struggle at first, set the power higher, this will over melt a bit, but can compensate for imprecision of the electrode placement. Once you have mastered it, slowly reduce the power, making sure each test that you cannot break open the weld. Good luck. Dana

They do this only after they have fulfilled their order, in other words, once they have shipped. If you notify me (email dana@stonesandfindings.com) with an invoice number for your purchase, I will create the credit. This could be in the form of immediate deduction from a pending order, or if you've placed the order and it was shipped, I will refund you US$120 the way you had paid - so either refund your credit card or PayPal.

Get a smaller electrode (thinner needle), or sharpen it more. This will help a bit. Also, make sure both side of the ring are connect and touching. Then Only touch with the point of electrode, not on side (minimize the contact).

No you don't. A number of customers I sold chains to, who do this in their boutiques, have said they decided not to buy the argon. It works fine using cloth so polish. I find a good eraser will work. If you're firing larger spots, I would use the brush dremel tool to save some elbow grease.

They have offered me a deal where, if the person buys within 48 hrs of clicking the link, they will pay me 8% commission as affiliated sales. I have not seen any commission because it takes people far longer than 48 hrs to make the decision. If you do buy it through the link within 48hrs from the last time you click it, pls email me. I will give the commission as a credit towards whatever components you purchase from me. I wholesale sterling silver and gold filled chains and components, as well as drilled pearls and gemstones.
