The fact that Woolie actually had a reaction to the character deaths on this game shows how much better the characters are. Unlike in BL3 when Woolie heard that he skipped Maya's death and just started laughing
The dialogue in BL2 was very well written and well paced enough that when someone started talking I was actually listening and eager to hear what they'd say. I had BL3 muted after an hour
@@LimpDickerson it’s horrifically cringe. It’s like it was written by a redditor trying to be funny and relatable. No one said anything about dlc. And the game play is fine. But the dialogue is horrific. And it was definitely before bl3. Like, that’s not even debatable. It came out in 2014.
It has something to do with bl2 originally being a xbox 360 era release and those being capped at 30 fps, so the 30+ extra fps causes a lot of bugs a bit having to do with claptrap
Man Bloodwing’s death hit me so hard. Mordecai was my main in bl1 and blood wing build was awesome (though sniper completely ignoring shields is busted) and I loved playing. Sending Bloodwing to kill an entire group of bandits was just too good. I played bl2 split screen with my brother and when she died I just sat in my seat and didn’t say anything for a few minutes. My brother ended up fighting his way out of the compound solo because I was just too stunned to play for a few minutes
Every time I replay BL2 I'm having a blast and laughing at all the early game stuff. Then I get to the Wildlife Preserve and the 'Nam flashbacks start. I still laugh at some of Jack's dialogue and jokes in the early game, but as soon as Bloodwing dies I just want to put a bullet in that son of a bitch. From the audio logs that give you Tina's backstory to what happens to Bloodwing, I fucking hate being in the Preserve. And I'm so glad a game made me hate an area for story and character reasons and not because it's a terribly designed area.
Very similar with me. Mordecai was also my main but I completely specialized in Bloodwing's skills and abilities, so when she died in BL2 I was so sad :(
the worst thing about BL1 is the aim stagger when the player is hit, (from any source) being shot by a bandit gives more stagger than the destroyer's eye beam.
The reason why you can't walk over that one weird step in front of the Crimson Raiders' building is because the game was designed to be played at 30 fps, and chances are you were plying either in uncapped, or above 30 fps. There's a lot of glitches in BL2 that only occur when playing over 30 fps. If you've ever watched your gear from a drop fly into orbit, that's also why. Same with enemy kills where they launch like the gear does sometimes.
Good video and I think almost everyone agrees that BL2 with BL3’s improvements would be God-Tier. So it truly blows my mind why they didn’t do a 10th anniversary remaster of 2. All that said… I skip a lot of dialogue in 3 by fast traveling movies r save quitting lol
I have 1,500 hours in this game. And every playthrough feels so much different thanks to the amounts of builds and characters you can play with those builds. I have gotten insane luck on some things which makes it even more fun, along with the amazing maps and stories. This game is definitely one of the greatest games of all time, they don’t make em like they used to, that’s for sure.
If you're in PC please check out bl2.5 from nexusmods, I started using it once I hit 900 hours in the game and it feels like a brand new game and everything that bl3 should've been to me. Makes me mains Gaige Krieg and Maya feel fresh as hell
i do agree with you on alot of points idk about the environmental design. bl3 areas and environment felt pretty good and inspiring to me honestly. while yes the planets were one dimensional there were lots of good and inspiring areas
I like the comment on the world being more “alive” in BL2. But i feel like the world design for each separate planet in BL3 was nutso. Same with the DLCs.
Bl2 is my favorite game ever made. Best borderlands ever made IMO. The farms. The builds the bosses the characters. Everything melts together so perfect for me. Appreciate this video. And can’t forget how insanely broken the game is which can make it 100x better
All time favourite game. So glad you enjoyed it! And got some pretty good loot along the way. I’m sure other people would be spamming this too, but the main DLCs are great too, Bunkers and Badasses in particular
the problem with borderlands is that the gunplay is amazing AFTER you get a build started which usually happens after your SECOND playthrough or even later
Woolie, as a long time member of the BL community, i would like to graciously invite you to play presequel. It has a better movement system ( you cant slide or clamber up walls, but you do have a jump boost that allows for more aerial combat and maneuverability, as well as slams) while having in my opinion, a better story and atmosphere than 2 does, also the characters skill trees are infinitely better.
Sick that you went though with it and played all of BL2. Its one of my favourite games and has occupied countless hours of my life so Its awesome for you to agree that its a great game
modded borderlands 2 is pretty damn fun too. also the not being able to walk up that specific ledge in sanctuary is only on Zero if im remembering right
the borderlands thumbnail didnt load for me at first so i thought for a hot second you just uploaded a video where you were genuinely trying to convince us that the number 2 is numerically greater than 3 and honestly i wanna see that timeline
2: angry mask man wants to make pandora great again. 3: pokimane and and ninja try to use their twitch prime deal to take over the world starring dante from devil crum baby
if someone hasnt made this point yet, back in 2012 this gunplay and shooting was like no other at its time which is why so many of us fell in love with it along with everything else it had to offer but yes sadly now its hard to go back and enjoy the gun play givin the much better options that have came out since a whole decade later.
It's so relieving to hear a newcomer to the series praise the dialogue in 2 compared to 3. I was hearing some INSANE revisionist history shit regarding borderlands writing in general when BL3 came out
*_"Yeah BL3 is def easier compared to BL2 and 1"_* Dude, you have no clue what you're talking about, you clearly never played BL3 at Mayhem level 10 or 11, you clearly played the kiddy level.
I like your energy! But yeah, I love BL2 ( and Pre-sequel while I'm at it) to bits! I'm currantly just playing through BL3 for the first time, I really enjoy the OST and seeing more of the BL universe, but I'm honestly debating on whether its worth my time playing through to finish. A great example of why good writing and story is so important. When you play through the Handsome Collection and Tale from BL 1( The only Tales from BL game) and then go onto Borderlands 3, its a suckerpunch to the face in terms of story. You realize all your favourite characters are dead or not themselves, and the Calypso twins are insulting, literally too, they just get the World handed to'em and your phone number too, so they're just a pair of insulting streamer children that won't... stop calling to insult you! Buuuut I'm rambling on about pointless exposition, have a good day!
Thank you for playing this game, it's a game I hold pretty dear even though I only played it like 8 years after release. I think it mostly has to do with Handsome Jack. My major flaws with this game are mostly the gunplay yes but after I got used to it I didn't hate it, even like it. But the biggest thing I dislike is the ice maps and the lack of ambient sound/music besides in battle and the battle music is very mediocre. As for the sidewalk infront of the HQ in Sanctuary, that's just sad but me and my friends and I'm sure any other Borderlands 2 player now just has a reflex to jump whenever they see any sort of height increase in the game.
6:21 I think you can just walk over that if you cap your game to 30 fps. There are a couple of bugs that can be fixed by doing so. But 30 fps is not fun.
The shooting in 2 is because it has a little RPG DNA in it too. When you rank up your characters badass rank you can put points into accuracy etc. So when you have put enough hours in it doesn't feel like as much of an issue.
I think that the best thing of Borderlands 2 is the ui and the maps, because in Borderlands 3 the snipers were awful in general. They barely did any damage in comparison to other weapons, and weapons were almost always middle range, making snipers pale, and close-quarters shotguns almost useless, and in Borderlands 2 you use them fairly a lot, as there are different situations, and the slag mechanic also favoured a dynamic play where you would always change your guns. Also, the suicidal enemies in 2 are way more noticiable and dangerous, because if you dont see them coming, they let you know when they are there, and its a heart attack every time.
BL3 is one of those games where I want to play it, but then I think of all the things I do not want to do in that game. in BL3 I love the movement, gunplay, and the vault hunters are fun to play but as It’s been said the dialogue and the exposition is so bad. Is there some kind of mod you can download that enables you to skip dialogue?
For me the ultimates in bl3 took me away from the cool guns and shooting or were just set and forget vs 2 was an addition to make your cool guns and shooting awesome
I would say that not just the gunplay is better in BL3. Also the Movement and I enjoy BL3's Vault hunters action skills more. Everything else BL2 does better in my opinion. Edit: Also the cars are more fun to drive in BL3
my parents played a lot of borderlands 2, they aren't big video game players but borderlands 2 was THE game for them, they got so into it that they even knew all the places to farm the different weapons so they were very excited for borderlands 3 when it was coming out, its just a shame that it ended up being an incredibly inaccessible game to them mostly do to the font size being too small for their poor eyesight. However, for a while they did try, but I suspect everything about the game felt so different and inferior to borderlands 2 that they ended up giving up and leaving me and my brother to be the only ones to play it, they really liked the story and the comedy in borderlands 2 but it all felt so much weaker from what they did play of 3 that it didn't feel worth it to keep trying. Even I still feel like borderlands 2 remains the most replayable game in the franchise purely because of BAR even if it was a slow and ineffective system to progress you still felt like you were being rewarded for your progress on a previous playthrough.
End of the day, the Borderlands franchise is good which I'm happy you changed your mind on from the Steam rating video. If you got more endgame you would see more advantages/disadvantages between the games. BL2 lacks build variety, but BL3 just hammers up the health. Hopefully they learn for 4.
Build variety was better when level 61 was the cap. If people would just enjoy the leveling process again instead of just rushing to endgame you get the best of both worlds. It's why I like one life runs (although that can be so difficult, you wanna use optimal stuff just so you don't have to restart all the time). Also without Paul Hellquist and Mikey Neumann (amongst others), I don't have any hope Borderlands will match the first two games. Senior game devs MAKE masterpieces, when they leave, it's noticed. This is the most important lesson you can learn about the game industry. BL will probably go the way of the Halo series.👎
Pre-Sequel is my favourite (yeah im crazy like that) Best abilities/characters Laser Guns More interesting movement Gun Grinder thing (idk if its in BL2) Claptastic Voyage DLC Secret Boss Better environments (BL2 Probably has better dialogue) This seems to be an uncommon opinion though so idk how true it is
You're not crazy, I'd say it's the best overall from the old games. Although, Wonderlands blew everything away for me, perfect gunplay with so many interesting weapons and mechanics
what about the second and third playthrough (tvhm, uvhm - true vault hunter mode / ultimate vault hunter mode) when the guns become so absurdly over the top with damage and you think you are scaling everything correctly then you realize you are the weak one. and you gotta go farm parts on the gun that you want. prime example is the depuh - double penetrating, torgue grip, unkempt harold
Hey Woolie, you should play a game called Deep Rock Galactic, its really quenched my Risk of Rain thirst and i'm having a blast with it (no pun intended). Season 3 dropped not too long ago so right now is a really good time to start! Regardless, love your content, keep up the great work!
A few of the points where you get stuck on a step are because the game was made for 30 fps. Moving to modern frame rates makes you stick in a few spots. BL3 had a LOT of quality of life improvements that would be great in BL2 along with movement and gunplay. Most of them have apparently been modded in for PC players. Sadly I play on console.
By far, borderlands 2 is my favorite game of all time for a reason. Handsome Jack is one of the best villains. The best thing they could do is use the skill trees and the gun play of borderlands 3 and transfer them into borderlands 2. That would make this game fucking 11/10.
the reason you have to jump over every curb and not auto walk over it is because the game was meant for 30 fps and the port over to whatever fps your on messes some stuff up
8:26 theres little stuff like this or something like npcs getting stuck because the game was made for 30fps and it messes stuff up when you have higher frames.
