I may have said this before but I think y’all have the fastest log splitter of anyone out there in log land. I mean it flat flys. Good job to you both. Work very well together.
Well as far as vertical hydraulic splitters go I think it’s the fastest I’ve seen . To be honest it’s to fast you really need to be focused on what ya doing when using it . I can turn the speed down but that wouldn’t be fun at all .
Couple nice loads of wood. We’re all that snow go. I need to hunt wood hard come spring. My job schedule probably going to make things tuff. Keep up the good work.
Been meaning to comment that you and Karen are the pioneers of the vertical table splitter with Buster. Credit where credit is due, seems like that has now become the way to go. Says a lot of Yankee Ingenuity 😊
@@AllenFamilyFirewood I pay attention, this is the way you have done it for years/ decades. Now it has become the new rage. I will keep doing what we have been doing, works best for us, have a decal for you 2. Hoop house would keep you and Karen out of the weather. Love your content.
Any time the sun is shining this time of year is a good day. It is too bad you can't split when it is this nice. There always seems to be something that gets in the way. Those little mini skid steers are dandy and carry more than you would think.
You got some nice straight logs there.nice loads.we are finally getting cold here in Alabama. Sold a few loads this past week.and I got a really nice buck 🦌 yesterday
Great video. I think he’s doing that on purpose Karen. Leaving Mountain Dew cans every where. 🤭🤭 Don’t annoy the stackin machine Phil. 🤭🤭🤭 Nice loads of wood you guys. Great looking stuff. Make sure there’s air movement from the fans thru the wood. It’ll dry. Have a great upcoming week. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋 Can’t wait till summer, then Karen will have her SS’s on.
Thanks Noel! I know he’s doing it on purpose! 😂 I hate to be hot in the summer and if I can get away with flip flops, I will! I’ll try to do better, I promise! 😊
Lots of oak around for sure splitting it small gives us lots of options , it can be used for bundle wood or just regular heating wood an it sure drys fast when ya split it small so ya don’t have to wait 2 yrs for it to dry
I saw the perfect upgrade for you..the hydraulic splitter for the front of your tractor. No more noodles! Splits as small as you want it and really fast. Maybe a used one around?
good video and job you need to get mountain dew to use Phil in there ads to help pay for truck and tractor. a old tobacco bulk barn would be cheapest way to dry wood they are cheap down here now. our old barns were hooked to a boiler. both of you take care, be safe and well.
Lol John! Phil is the perfect spokesman for Mtn Dew. I'm surprised they haven't caught on yet! Would love something like that but we have an issue with enough space around here. Take care!
Thanks maybe some day we will upgrade to a log truck . We only get the wood from there small jobs . There big jobs over 4 cord they pay a log truck to haul it away . We are just scratching the surface of all the free wood that’s out there but it keeps us busy
Adding that light was one of our better ideas makes it nice to just keep on splitting I gota get a better light for my stacking machine always seems to quit once it gets dark out 😂
@AllenFamilyFirewood : Well, stop fiddling with the kiln and make her a stage to stack and dance to while she is listening to some tunes.. If you build it right, maybe add a disco ball, too..🤣😉👍
@@DanielAtkinsFirewoodyeah Phil, listen to Daniel Atkins! His ideas sound way more fun than simply working! A stage and a disco ball - I like it Daniel!! 😂
Thanks Steve I will have to go look that up I need one that work by its self I have seen the 8 in round ones that you can turn by hand . One with a luver would be the ticket
Keep an eye on the wood in your kiln. If you are cycling through warm and cool temps and the humidity is not being removed quick enough, your crates of firewood will go moldy.
Thanks Jim the fan that blows the heat in is always on or has always ben on but we just put it on a timer to shut off 5 hrs after I fill the stove an go home for the night . I will ck to see in the morning I’m hoping by doing that we don’t loose as much heat every night . I can live with a 5 ta 8 degree temp drop buts it’s Ben closer to 20 an I spend most of the next day trying to gain it all back . Very much appreciate your advice an love ya channel.
I checked this morning an didn’t see any mold but with the fan shutting off the humidity did spike to 80% this morning but it wasn’t long coming back down once we got things fired up again . Definitely not the ideal set up but figured it was worth a try an I always like a good challenge.
Hey there Phil. Busy splitin. I notice when you split you split in slabs which looks like about 2-21/2 inches. I would think it would be somewhat dangerous to take 3-4 pieces and try to hold them square and split all together. You certainly move right through the single pieces very fast. The reasons for all the questions, I’ve been watching different channels with vertical splitters to watch different styles of splitting. My Wolfe Ridge 17VS-C should be done in 2 weeks. I want to be ready when it gets here. I really like the style you use busting the round up into 2-21/2 pieces. Then proceeding to bust the smaller blocks into nice bundle wood. Great job. Love watching. Later. Saws are mounted and almost ready for stickers.
Being as fast as that splitter is things happen even faster an when the knife hits a knot sometimes it slaps the piece to the left of the knife right to the table in a split second . By just having one piece instead of 2 or 3 i can usually see it about to happen an get my hand out of the way . Thats the reason why i do just one piece at a time . As you get used to using that new 17vs you can keep trying different ways of splitting an pick what works best for you . I think you will be very happy with that new wolf ridge vertical .
Looking forward to seeing the saws Allen! Will be watching for videos with that new splitter! Trying to get as many videos in as we can, it’s a challenge! Wish there were more hours in a day!
Wood boiler and a shipping container (or two) would pay for itself pretty quickly with the amount of wood you are cycling through. Plus you would have a wood boiler for all the 'boiler wood' you have (saves time since you don't have to break them down to fit into a wood stove). Honestly, I would bite the bullet and get it if you are considering drying lumber in it in the future.
We kinda wanted to just give this a try an see what kinda results we could get out of a wood stove . We can sell a ton of green wood at $300 a cord an the dry stuff only brings an extra $100 . Maybe in a few yrs we might jump into a boiler an shipping container. The outdoor boilers work great we have one at our house an just love it .
That makes good sense. @treestofirewood sometimes uses his shipping container kiln just to dry off the rain / snow before he delivers his wood. Yours would work well for that. Drying green wood... its too much work with a regular woodstove imho (you are making the right choice). I always do love a DIY attempt at something (you should see my greenhouse - it looks like a timber frame with plastic siding - built it for the price of plastic and timber screws). @@AllenFamilyFirewood Side note - my one vice in life is Dt. Mt Dew ;)
We are really hoping that it will dry pine camp wood for us but I think just putting in a cord an a half to try the first run is the way to go. Pine drys really fast in the summer usually in a week or 2 so me might have better luck putting in pine worst case we can always put lumber in it to dry that likes to be dryed a lot slower than firewood
Maybe it’s just me, I have this sneaking suspicion that Karen is not wild about finding all those “Easter eggs” turning up everywhere! Nice editing with those scene ending things-have no idea what they are called, but reminds me of a mix of the old TV show “Laugh in” and Austin Powers- “Far-out. Good day in the woodyard, Nice score!!!😂🇺🇸
You would be correct Mike I tend to leave a trail of them wareever I’ve ben lol. Karen does the editing so I’m sure she will chime in she don’t let me near the computer for some reason 😂
Yup, he’s a walking cluster…as you have noticed Mike. I decided to highlight the mess because I bet you can guess who picks them up! The one on the trailer flew out of the bed of the truck and got lodged in the load of wood we brought back 🙄 The scene ending things are transitions…those definitely had the Laugh-In/Austin Powers feel…you’ve got a good eye! 😉
Always plenty to do if we ain’t cutten an spliten we are on the sawmill it never ends . Having that light over the splitter has made it nice to just keep going
Karen phil drink on the job mtns dew cans everywhere . 😊 watch him don’t let him drink and operate equipments in wood 🪵 yard . 😊 . You got to push THINK SAFETY and always put SAFETY FIRST with PHIL lol 😊
I see your a fan of the nectar of the gods good ole mountain dew lol.Seems like a few of us wood guysits our drink of choice. I am just small time have a stand and sell a few cords so I built a kiln in my greenhouse can only fit a cord in at a time and I know it will cost me in power to run a dehumidafire and heat I made it off the ground and wrapped in ridgeboard I just finished and was going to load it up but it started snowing heavy. I was wondering how you made out when you seasoned wood in your greenhouse I know I will only need the kiln and expense for 3 maybe 4 months. Just wondering your thoughts Thanks
Thanks John mt dew is about the only thing that goes in me lol . I used to put firewood in the greenhouse in July green an just let it bake it would get up over 140 degrees in there an I would sell it in the fall . Stuff was bone dry I never tryed it in the winter months . I would think warming up during the day an cooling off at night would do a lot to help dry it out . Gota be better than leaving it out in the rain that’s for sure .
Its such a shame whats happening on the coast watching on the news I feel bad for those people because of high wave surge even took down a lighthouse. It just turned mighty cold down here take care and stay warm@@AllenFamilyFirewood
Kiln dry old fashioned way sun ☀️ and wind , them it be organic firewood 🪵 run high on today market went you use the word ORGANIC. Probably get another Benjamin for a bush cord 😊.
Yeah that’s a good idea-Organic- don’t forget “Sustainable, Non-GMO, gender neutral, non-binary, include your “Mission statement” state your “Pronouns” you know like He/Him- the wackos are drawn to this non-sense like calling hogs to the trough!😂
Hi Danial I like to keep it under an hr drive to get to ware they want me to pick up the wood I think it was about 45 miles each way on the loads we got in this video
Yes Mark, I am asserting that! He does litter our woodyard. It wouldn’t be so bad if he cleaned up his litter, but you can probably guess who cleans it up. I felt that was worth an honorable mention in todays video. Kind of a ‘look inside Karen’s world’ angle 🤷♀️🙄🤷♀️
Can you consider stopping that twirly whirly breakout between shots. That’s really off putting and a bit triggering for people with sight sensitivities. Just fade to black between shots thanks.
we'll definitely consider that karen tries different things to change up the videos thanks for letting us know some of the transitions are flashier than others we'll definitely keep that in mind thanks for watching!
Lol, LOVE this question!😂 we really don’t…we irritate each other sometimes, but we have a mission to get stuff done and we usually do. Having fun is the key. Just gotta laugh instead of duking it out! 😂🤣👊
I had a couple 18 in channel iron sticking up for a mast but they broke off . I Ben after my welding guy for a few yrs to fix em but he’s always busy. Just gota be real careful
