We have a great Dane x English mastiff she is so gentle and majestic 55 kilos and so loving of me and my partner she looks like the photos you are showing. Love you guys thanks for a great video
I'm a first time mastiff owner. I’m (21 year old) studied them for years before I finally got my first puppy last year. I keep her trim and in good shape through play, work, and exercise rather than bulk her up to be massive like her breeder is doing with their dogs. She is large as she should be for a new 1 year old and I am extremely proud at that fact. She is still just as regal and "elegant" as I'd like her to be but she retains the athleticism that she should have as an English Mastiff.
Thank you, I loved this documentary, and from my experience with this noble breed, all true. My big boy is laying across my feet snoring as I type this, and I wouldn't want it any other way !
We’ve lost three through the years, and to this day my heart is still broken. They were our very best companions, and the sweetest, most sensitive dogs I’ve ever owned.
They are magnificent in every way. Regal, loyal and protector. You know Taz never wore a collar, he would not leave my side. Always had to walk with his shoulder touching my leg. I have some stories to tell about him.
Hi he was a beautiful beast sorry to hear your story , are still breeding them, I love to have them , Do share your link and which country are u in . Thank you god bless you.
I've owned several different breeds of dogs over the years and they all have pros and cons but without the english mastiff has the best temperament. A fantastic dog.
I have 2 mastiffs. I love them as much as I love my natural born children. They are one of the best, loyal, caring and loving dogs. My 2 babies want nothing more than to make me happy.
They are the very best family dog iv ever had and I have had at least one dog in my entire life when my son was born he just knew who needed to be taken care of and watched over him the rest of his life I really realized how much looking through pictures he was always near by my son by far the most amazing animal and friend I ever had.
We have very much enjoyed your video, Mastiff - A Gammonwood Tale, all three parts. I do not know if the level of your knowledge, or that of your interview subjects is commonplace among dog breeders in England, but it is not so here in the States. I was impressed by that, and in fact found myself typing quotes from Col. David Hancock in particular. That said, however, it is your dogs that left me in awe, and with more than 20 years breeding Bandogge Mastiffs and now also American Bulldogs, I am simply put, not easily left in awe. Among your dogs I saw not a single fallen pastern, no obesity, no overdone wrinkle, but gorgeous and typically athletic animals, many which might still run beside horses for a night, only to rush headlong into battle in the morning. You have my utmost respect and admiration, and I am encouraged deep in my bones to know that there still remain breeders such as yourselves, who shall provide that the Mastiff's future is sure.
The best memories i have as a young boy is of Tarzan, Taz my old english mastiff. Every child should experience what i did. There is a photo in the background of the gent speaking about the breed, it has a face like Taz. I still miss him. Good memories. Thanks.
What a beautiful documentary! Put together and presented by true angels really. God bless. Telling a story, narrating a legend, is a tall order. It requires one to be true to the subject. In this case, this is a brilliant success, at homage. 🙏🏻 And a special motion to the background score. It carries its own tribute, to these great souls, residing for a while in the incarnation of a monk, The Mastiff.
It has always sickened what we have done to all animals. The Mastiff is a magical breed. I have two myself both rescues. I know they would never win any contest. I never cared about that. I only care about the unconditional love that they provide. I would encourage anyone to find a Mastiff that is not perfect to open your home as I have. I feel upon very hard times. I got my ass on the public bus with a home converted suitcase with lawnmower wheels to haul 40 lbs of dog food home to feed them. They are worth every dollar.
Beautiful video real Gentlemen and Ladies telling there story of the best of English breeds makes me proud to be English. This is how Dogs should be bread, cared for and invested in for the future of our animals. Bravo!
THANK YOU so much for educating so many on this wonderful breed. As a mastiff owner (Mastiff Mommy) I can't thank you enough. They are truly majestic gentle giants with devotion like no other
English Mastiff's are the best dogs. I miss my buddy Titan he passed away from old age. My son and Titan were the best of friends, and my son would ride him like a horse and Titan was ALWAYS easy with my son. Wonderful dogs.
I originally wanted a mastiff, but the more research I did, I found the Bullmastiff was the breed for me ! He is 12 now, and once again, I am on the hunt for new pups.
clearly some of the negative comments are from those who have never had the privilege of owning an English mastiff. if you had or have owned an English mastiff you would understand the grace that is the breed. beautiful loving dog's.
Thank you so much. These wise, most sensible words spoken by the gentleman and the two ladies are a priceless lesson to all dog lovers, and most particularly to dog breeders. I'm sharing this video on my Facebook page.
Love the breed and would never have another. Once you have raised a Mastiff from a Pup and watch them grow and spend there life with you they build the most enduring memories that you savor years after they are gone. My Mastiff passed 11 years ago and I miss and think about him often. Some of the recollections by the ladies in this video I could tell they have lost their friend and I understand there obvious grief. Some of the stories about my boy I can not tell without getting a bit misty. That is the way it is with these giants. they come into our lives as that little ball of curiosity and over sized feet that will step on you so many times through out the years but little do we know they step on our souls and harts leaving a place there that will never be filled. I believe they make us better people so what can you say about that.
I don't think that is necessarily confined to the English Mastiff. Every now and then we get to have that very special dog, be it for good or bad reasons. I lost my Weimaraner over 3 years ago and I am still reluctant in getting another one cos I know be it consciously or subconsciously, I will probably always compare the new dog to my old dog. I think I will most likely end up going for other breeds such as a Doberman or Rhodesian Ridgeback. Point being is at least they don't have that velvety grey fur and huge ears. And it will never be fair when you compare dogs.
This is so true I've had lots of breeds of dogs since being a little boy but no dog and no breed is like a English mastiff theirs something special about this breed that separates it from all other breeds most loving loyal dog and so much more
The music for both part One and Two are original compositons written specifically by Gammonwood for the documentaries. The entire work has the working title of "String Theory". The music for Part Two is "String Theory - First Movement - Airs 1 to 3" Much of the remainder of the suite plus some additional single pieces were all used in Part One.
Im here after watching a clip on an American guy with 3 obese English Mastiffs that he says are the Top in the World and I couldn't help but roll my eyes! This is how they should be!
great video ty.dogs in general and labs & mastiffs in particular are the best living thing a man can have around.they like to play, love to hug and do not talk back.all they ever want is owners company and they cherish it.
I greatly enjoyed watching this series! I had a bull-mastiff when I was young and have always adored mastiffs of all kind. The effort and dedication put into this video is amazing and well appreciated!
I quite agree with every thing you all have said, the I've owned a few different breeds. But the mastif I had was so gentle with all people strangers or not . But you took him pig hunting he was outstanding.
Beautiful dog. Great great video. I have boxers and have always had boxers but need a bit bigger dog since I live on a ranch in the country. But I LOVE mastiffs. So beautiful. I can't wait until I can get one.
Mastiffs are one of the most loyal dog breeds if not the most... HOWEVER... Please if you get one make sure you're willing to put forth the effort/time/possibly money to train them... You don't want a possibly 250lb mastiff who isn't trained... Make no mistake they know their size and the older they get the more stubborn they'll get
old Titan was 35-1/2 inched at the shoulders and a soild 287lbs. I walked him 4 miles every day and would let him run loose for hours. He passed away at 8-1/2yrs. old from old age.
Very beautifully done. I've been looking for a dog breed that does well with small children and well in family settings. This dog has own me over. The history behind it and the gentle ways of the dog. Just fascinating. I really appreciate this documentary ^_^
I bought my Mastiff, Dave The Dog, two weeks ago as a 4 month old puppy. He has been AMAZING. I can't think of how we lived without him. His personality is great around children, dogs and other adults and he is surprisingly well trained compared to most dogs i have seen. I thought this was an excellent video and would be interested to share photos and find out more about the blood line of Dave. i have his family tree, is there somewhere that I could go to find out more? He can look forward to a loving life coming to work with me on my fishing lake complex and making friends everyday and being part of our family.
I wanted to say thank you to Gammonwood and ***** for these wonderfully informative videos,Im new to the world of mastiffs, having just purchased an St bernard/Bullmastiff cross puppy.Your videos show a huge amount of experience and understanding of this majestic breed and i thank you for all of your words of wisdom and experience.
stuartmays I second that. These videos are a fantastic resource, I've garnered so much quality information from the series. Much appreciation to Gammonwood, *****. Your passion combined with all those interviewed is hugely appreciated.
😢 it's been a year Christmas since our bull mastiff passed on. But his son and daughter are even bigger. Love these dogs. We also have a English mastiff. Can't live with out this breed.
Thank you for this, using it to show to our city council who has the mindset that english mastiffs are dangerous and like to bite, english are being blamed for dog bites done by german shepherds, bullmastiffs and terrior mixes, sadly our police cannot recognize different breeds, they attack mastiffs the same way pits are attacked, neither breed is bad IMO
A burglar broke into our store. The dog knocked him flat on his back and grabbed his head. He screamed. I went out and i knew the lad. Christ he cried. The police had been calledout and when they looked over the back wall they wanted to get a marksman out. One officer said don't be stupid, get john. I was watching all this so i went outside simply clicked my finger and he came wagging his tail. " look what i got for you". Poor lad had pissed himself. You see he knew the dog "daft bugger". The dog never broke the skin, he did growl alot though and with a mouth full of head, well imagine. As a puppy he would chase me knock me on my arse and hold me. That is what mastiffs do. And what my bull mastiff did it is natural. These dogs they say are mastiffs on the news are not. They are just abused big dogs. A mastiff just want to please you. Thats why he tried to fetch me a intruder. And that lad still played football afterwards With the dog, and the dog was no different to when he was a pup. I still laugh with him about it!
I have had dogs over 100 pounds all my life and the vets always say I have the best behaved dogs they ever seen. The question I always get from everybody is HOW do I get them that way? It's pretty simple really, keep them close to you 24/7/365 and keep both hands on the dog all the time your around them and trust me you to will indeed have a really great member of your family as well. I just was forced to put my Bullmastiff down last week at 13 years. I am getting too old to get another one as the hart brake of loosening them is too great, ( I ALWAYS say that) but somehow another one always seems to follows me home. My house is now WAY to quiet!
No problem at all.... :-) Mastiff: A Gammonwood Tale - (Preview) was a trailer for the documentary series. At the time we uploaded Part One there were size constraints, so it had to be cut into two files. The proper viewing order is a s follows: 1.1 Mastiff: A Gammonwood Tale - Part One 1.2 Mastiff: A Gammonwood Tale - Part One 2 Mastiff: A Gammonwood Tale - Part Two
May I offer my sincere appreciation. The amount of time taken to produce these videos is proof of the obvious love you have for these unwatchable dogs. However I am confused in the order to watch. That is certainly my shortcoming but would you help me understand?
