yeah, but when a game gets this far? It doesn't just get cancelled - we know of HLX from before alyx even. Neon prime - now Deadlock, is in closed beta and we knew that of since after alyx.

I'm 20 years old and I have spent *literally* my entire life waiting for a new main line Half Life game. By the time I was old enough (Probably 10? 2014?) to pay any real attention to the gaming scene at a deeper than surface level Half Life 3 jokes were already in full swing and I had entirely missed the boat on ever truly believing that there was hope for it. There is no possible game release that I think could even come close to the excitement that a main line desktop based Half Life would bring me. How could anything compare to a reveal I've been effectively waiting my entire life for? Something I've been forced to desperately smother feelings of hope for until recently? It would easily be the most exciting media reveal of my life and for the first time I do truly hold a degree of optimism.

I know. The richest and most vivid years of my childhood, I was blissfully ignorant of online anything, and thats when HL2:E2 came out. Now, at 22, I eagerly await the next installment. Especially after all the leaks and information thats tricked out over the years. This looks like it could be it. I doubt its a 2025 release, but I think realistically 2028 or sooner.

ikr, got into Portal 2 a few years after it released, followed by TF2, Portal 1 and then Half-Life 2. Still remember the morning when Half Life Alyx's trailer released and I was taken aback by how fantastic it looked

Why did Alyx not do anything for you? It's a mainline half-life game that's better than any desktop game will probably be. And you can still play HLA on desktop. At this point just getting half life 3 would be incredibly underwhelming which is why I'm glad they went with an interesting direction with Alyx. Would have been cool back in 2008 but now not really that interesting.

@@queuedjar4578 Alyx is pretty much forever going to be constrained by the fact that it's a VR title. Not only does that make it inaccessible to most people but even with the mod that exists to convert it into a desktop title it's inherently constrained by the limitations that VR focused design imposed. If the game came out as the desktop mod and wasn't a VR title I'm fairly certain that people would have been overwhelmingly underwhelmed by it. I'm glad that it exists, it certainly excited me at the time, but it isn't really the same thing. It isn't what I've spent so long waiting for.

I was born in 2003, in 2007 my father showed me HL2E2 and I have been a huge fan of the franchise ever since. For 17 years now, I have been living with the dream of HL3. It's good to know that there is some hope for that dream to come true, but knowing Valve, I wouldn't be surprised if they just cancel the game halfway through

Half-Life Alyx and the touch-ups to Half-Life basically was confirmation that the Half-Life series is not near dead and Valve has an interest in making more games from it. I think it'd be great marketing for HLX if they just improved HL2 and bundled up HLX with all Half-Life games.

Adding seamless level streaming would be nice. Yeah, the loading takes seconds these days but it'd be cool to just make the entire game have no hitches.

I remember when the HL3 concept art with the Advisors and the Borealis leaked which is pretty crazy since it was over 10 years ago and HL2 already was around for nearly 10 years at that point

What if the 20th anniversary and is all the previous PC games stitched into one and remastered, i say this since the Houndeyes didnt appear in any of the later games so maybe since theres Xen in HL1 they've put them toghter and that's why it appears. BUT HEY THATS JUST A THEORY

THEY WERE supposed to but they did make the cut for breadman's ez2 and the characters were there as well as some other creatures in hl2dm levels like chaos crew roleplay. just as npcs but the models were there im in ez2 and the houndeye i think slips throufh with xen grenades like the bullsquid
