I purchase 2 Johnson / Evinrude outboards for just $200 each. I show my progress at getting them running.. I try to help others not to make rookie mistakes!
i have the E150TRLCNM Evinrude & have rebuilt my Great Uncle's 24ft Party Barge Pontoon boat (along with the dock, dock stairs x2, pool, new roof, landscape, A/C, insulation, x2 bathroom remodels to accomodate his age) AND he turns 100 on Jan 20th 2025 and the boat is the last major project since 2016 home flood & has lived in Lafayette same house here on the Vermillion river that he bought in 1972. The stories this house can tell both unbelievable and entertaining to say the least. Anyway, for all that time and he or nobody had ever taken him up or down the river. Of course, I'm trying to accomplish this at least once if not as many as he wants, and so now you see (ok technically read & see) why the boat rebuild is so important. Plus, as a Navy Veteran it do him some good getting his sea legs! So all that brings me to this, great video comment. A bit more movement on camera than I like but finally able to verify that I'm not missing any parts after the boat had been vandalized. Now, my question is where you stopped at the fuse box wiring as I can't find where t connect the relay fuses to and the tilt trim solenoid on the setup was some connected on the backside of the fuse box. Also, which wires get the metal clip things inside the fuse box. I can't find this type of wiring diagram and see this was a custom solution probably as this is not the original motor to 3 pontoon spar pontoon boat original engine was only 90hp. Also, will this 150hp tear off this boat aluminum transom? I'm just trying to show or let him do some overdue boating, not drag racing or endangering him if the 150hp is way too much for boat model. Anyway if ur close by or want to stay in our VRBO listed space for free if you can help either show or point here, do this, now that, etc I'll do it, but this 1 & only boat rebuild is my first ever & my last ever, ever (much like the 40k gallon pool recement, replaster, repaint rebuild - why do I think I can "oh, no problem it's just concrete & paint - I can do this. Holy hell wtf was I thinking and July of last year was my had to start now or pool would have been a frog & mosquito factory producing nightmare. However, once boat is done, so is my last offered volunteered tasks that I obligated myself to pre flood status. Carried home & flood insurance since 1972 & before repair claim paid - insurance co claimed bankruptcy. So all of the repairs have been VRBO customer bookings & myself and he doesn't own his house reverse mortgage it before the flood. Then 2020 hurricane did a bunch of damage as well. Again mandatory insurance required to live here & insurance co did same thing, oops we bankrupt again... Super BS way to honor our veterans... It's even crazier as the free room & board maid/for VRBO job steals 50k of nickel plated parts due to his memory not being as sharp as it once was. Anyway, sorry for all the back story. After the phone call task by my Father to come help his Uncle I just obeyed.
Before you get it running put a set of hose muffs with running water on the lower unit to keep.from destroying the water pump. It most likely needs one anyway after sitting 20 years but it is a good habit to be in.
Awesome video. I am currently trying to get a 1979 evinrude 140 to run. Pretty much the same motor as yours actually. This video is helped me a ton! I now have the confidence to pull the carbs and clean them. My current problem is getting spark, buying a multimeter tomorrow to start finding my issue with wiring. I dont think i am but I'm going to laugh my butt off if I find out I'm missing a kill switch.
You can get a rebuild kit for the primer with the top part. Also the last thing you want is to get out on the water and have a coil go bad if you bought new ones use them
Got one of those rebuild kits, hooked it all up. Still didn't work. It clicked but nothing happened on the inside. Ended up buying a new one for $85 and it works now.
Do you watch poker vlogs? I used to do a little of that. The fees were ridiculous. However, I was wrong about the storage fee, there is a Max per day they will charge.
You seem to be trying to watch what you spend. Thats good because those 2 motors aren't worth much. Johnson and Evinrude are gone, and 2 cycle outboards are pretty much obsolete. If you really want an old 2 stroke, the Yamaha's were good ones.
I will never use a four stroke outboard. My 51 year old Johnson runs great. The Yamaha two strokes might last ten years and might not. Five years in saltwater running to the canyons. Poor folks got bamboozled on those for sure. Just another chapter in the Pearl Harbor saga.
@@geraldkoth654 I agree 4 strokes are heavy and to me they don't pop out of the hole like a 2 stroke. I would put a 200 Johnson Strike Force up against a 200 4 stroke Yamaha all day.
NEVER like in never ever start an outboard motor without cooling water. It will end the life of the impeller and make it run hot in no time. Also, NEVER start a 2-stroke with starter fluid! It contains no oil at all and will cause the engine to be starved from oil which is the only lubrication it has.
Hahahaha kill switch. Son goes fishing with friends on their boat. He calls me from off shore. Daaaad heeeelp the engine cranks but won't start. Check man overboard kill switch son. I did it's good. Doesn't that boat have upper controls? Oh yeah let me check
