I am the one who suggested the Fumoto valve and really appreciate your video. I decided on the similar EZ drain valve for the Sienna because it has a screw in tube attachment to make the drainage easier, especially outdoors with wind.

I take my hat off to you about changing your oil every 5000 miles! My dad was a mechanic and he said oil and filters are cheap, and engines are not! Last time I took my Toyota in for service I wanted to oil changed at 5000 miles instead of 10,000 miles and of course Toyota comes with maintenance for free for the first two years are 25,000 miles. But they don’t change the oil every 5000 miles like I want it to be done they only do it every 10,000. So I get it done every 5000, of course that really annoyed the service advisor. Well it’s my car and I want to take the best care I can of it! Thanks for all your fantastic videos!

Thanks, I just got my Sienna last week. Although it will be a little while until my 500 mile safety change, I have heard a lot about this Fumoto valve. Thanks for demonstrating it as I was still wondering what this item was! Most people talk about it on video but don't actually show how it works! I'll be sure to install this in the future as well for future ease. Appreciate it!

The Fumoto oil valve is a great option. I had installed them on my Cadillac ATS and CTS, because the threads on the oil pan was aluminum, and started stripping. So constinantly removing the drain plug for future oil changes wasn't a great option. So nice not to have that hot oil coming down on your hands when removing the drain plug, simply easy to remove the clip and flip the switch on the valve to change oil.

If you like it then great but I've had a fumoto one my suv at one point. I personally didn't like the slower flow rate and it did leak at the washers eventually. I've learner to buy crush washers at bulk and that has worked well for me.

Great video as always. Does your warranty allow for self-service oil changes/maintenance?
@Tellvia
@Tellvia 3 года назад
Hi Jose, according to The Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act, which is in effect since 2019 in all 50 states allows owners to repair their vehicles at a service center of their choice or to perform service themself. Most car manufacturers, except Tesla, subscribe to a “right to repair act” and provide the same repair related information to third party shops/owners as to the thief brand service centers. To refuse a warranty on the vehicle that was serviced/repaired by a third party/owner the manufacturer will have to prove that the claimed damage/failure was caused by said service/repair work. I hope this unswears your question. Cheers!

Are you concerned with removing the magnetic oil plug? Or is there a magnet elsewhere that catches metal pieces?
@Tellvia
@Tellvia 2 года назад
Thank you for watching. The stock oil plug is not magnetic. I used magnetic oil plugs in the past. They are useful for the first couple of oil changes when the engine parts still brake-in together and shed some metal shavings. After that the magnetic plug stays clean and is not needed. Cheers!

@@Tellvia Sorry I must disagree with your comment. There will always be some small bits of metal shavings after each oil change. I always have some fine dust type shavings at the tip of my magnetic plug, even when always using Mobile 1 oil and making oil changes every 4-6 months. At my last oil change on a 10 year old Honda with 65k miles, there were some small fine dust shavings. I would never buy a Fumoto and will continue to use a magnetic drain plug. I like Gold Plug brand (no affiliate or referral from them).

My 2021 Sienna manual makes no mention of a CVT transmission. It is called a Hybrid transmission in the manual. My questions is do I use Toyota Genuine ATF WS per the manual? I was told that it have a CVT transmission and Toyota has CVT fluid, I am confused what to use!

Hi tellvia. Great and informative well planned and made videos !! Subscribed!! Can you possibly come up with an estimate of all maintenance requirements for a sienna hybrid and costs involved ? Thanks v much for all your hard work
@Tellvia
@Tellvia 3 года назад
Hi Mel, thank you for watching and your question. Toyota providers 10 year warranty for their hybrid battery, the rest of the vehicle systems are not that different from any other modern vehicle. The GreenCarReports found that the Prius had the lowest average maintenance costs of any car over a 10-year period. The Prius averaged $4,300 in maintenance-related costs over 10 years. I would expect that maintenance-related costs for new Toyota Sienna will be around $5,000 over 10 years. I hope this helps to answer your question. Cheers!

Does the valve let all the oil out? I looks like some oil may not be able to drain because the valve is up into the oil pan maybe half an inch.

Thank you for watching and your question. The installed oil pan valve pointing directly down. This is a ball type valve, which does not have any dead space inside where the old valve many be trapped. The threaded part of valve is the same length is the same as the stock bolt, the valve ball mechanism is outside of the oil pan, and it is a low profile, may be only 3/8” longer the head of the stock bolt. I hope this helps. Cheers!

hello, i purchased the oxygen sensor socket in your description however i doesnt fit. the one you used in your video has a much wider slot compared to the amazon link. Can you tell me the exact spec for the socket you used in your video?
@Tellvia
@Tellvia Год назад
I am sorry to hear that the socket I've linked on Amazon does not fit the Fumoto oil valve. I have had my oxygen socket of 20+ years and was not able to find the exact product and did not realize that they come in different cutout width. The socket I used in the video is ⅞" with a 20mm wide cutout. I see that cutout of the socket I linked in the video looks narrower. I've searched the Amazon listings and found this ⅞" socket that looks to have a wide enough cutout - ARES 70094-1/2-Inch Drive by 7/8-Inch (22mm) Oxygen Sensor Socket - Wire Gate Accesses Sensor from The Side, Preventing Damage to Wires amzn.to/3KL6GQi Unfortunately none of the oxygen sensor sockets have a spec for how wide the cutout is. Looking at the picture of the product linked above, however, the cutout width is comparable to the distance between socket walls which is 22mm for the ⅞" socket. Possibly this socket will fit the Fumoto valve. I hope you are still able to return the socket you bought on Amazon and try the one above. Let me know if the new socket worked for you. Alternatively you can install the oil valve with a regular wrench - just don't over torque it. Cheers!

Hi HD, thank you for watching. I took our Sienna to a Toyota dealer to address a recall and do the free oil change. I forgot to mention that I have a Fumoto valve installed on the van. Telvia i love your vids my 2nd row seat wont fold down have you encountered this issue?
@Tellvia
@Tellvia 3 года назад
Hi Nidal, thank you for watching. The second row seats don’t fold down like in some other minivans. In 2021-22 Sienna the back of the seat and the seating surface fold together by pulling a lever on the side of the second row seat. You can then slide them forward towards the front seat and in that configuration they take the least of the space. With second row seat folder forward and slid forward the space from the back of the van (with the 3rd row folded as well) to the folded 2nd row is 72” long and can be used for carrying luggage or sleeping. I hope this helps. Cheers!

I'm not a fan of those valves. I like to keep using the plug that came with the car from the factory better than inserting a foreign object and introduce a valve that is not 100% compatible with the oil pan thread, I'm talking about fraction of millimeters. Since my 2021 Camry hybrid needs to be slightly jacked up for an oil change, I don't mind the classical way, since and requires many other steps of recycling the old oil, removing the oil filter and reinstalling a new one, then rotating the tires, all that long process is not going to be easier by using the valve.
@joseville
@joseville 3 года назад
1:40 that's some fine temporal aliasing (I'm guessing). Cool effect. Makes the flow look frozen in time.
@Tellvia
@Tellvia 3 года назад
Hi Jose, thank you for watching and your question. The oil flow from the pan is so smooth that does look a frozen image. No editing effects were applied. It takes about a minute for most of oil to come out and the stream of oil becomes thinner, turning to drops and eventually stops. This is great example of a laminar (minimal friction) fluid flow, which modern oil are designed for. Cheers!
@joseville
@joseville 3 года назад
@@Tellvia Thanks, oh it's laminar flow. I thought it might have been a case of the recording frame rate coincidentally matching the frequency of the flow. Here's an example of that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uENITui5_jU.html. It's a visual effect due to video being series of discrete images captured at regular intervals. If the interval between frames matches the cycle, then the frames always sample/capture the event at the same phase of the cycle, so all frames look the same making it look like it's not moving. (You may already know this.)

Doesn’t the oil plug have a magnet to catch debris? Am I correct the valve does not have this?
@Tellvia
@Tellvia 2 года назад
Hi Branson, thank you for watching. The stock oil plug in Sienna is not magnetic. In my experience magnetic plugs are only useful to collect metal shavings from the oil for the first 3-5K miles. After that, the engine parts are mated well together and no new metal debris found on the magnet. The oil filter effectively removes small shavings that float in oil. The large ones sediment to the bottom of the oil pan and don’t get reintroduced in the oil circulation. Changing oil flashes them out. Cheers!

suggest to change the oil every 5000 if possible. engine repair cost thousand. a gallon of Mobile 1 oil cost $28 in walmart. lol that is what I do for my Prius C. 2500 mile oil change and 5000 mile oil and filter change. I change the oil and filter every 5000 miles and drain the oil from the pan. between the oil change, after driven 2500 miles , I use a oil pump I bought from ebay for $18 and suck out the oil from the tip stick and put the new oil.

The piston rings on these new engines are no joke. super low compression for less than 1 MPG better on the datasheet. just a little worn out on the cylinder wall , it will start to burn oil.

@@JCJourney Sometimes these issues are totally independent of oil changes. Really depends on the engine, some Toyota engines are more prone to leaks than others. Personally I like to do a break in oil change and then every 5000 miles, even if the manual says I can go to 10,000. Check out CarCareNut’s channel, he knows all things Toyota and goes pretty in depth.

@@smrtguy77777 I agree. I used to work in a shop for years . I like that guy's channel and he is talking about the truth. It really depends on the engine and how you use the vehicle. I would like to do three oil changes every 10K rather than two. it only cost a couple hundred dollars more in 100K miles. The engine cost thousands. not counting a little bit of gas saving and longer lifespan on the engine.
