I've started the works on building the solar array and replacing the front door. In the meantime I got a visit from the surveyor (geometra) and his technician and have lunch at my neigbour's place.

I'm coming up for 3 years renovating a French Farm house that potentially dates back to sometime in the 1700s. Its been super stressful, testing and at times cold ( I will never forget those first couple of weeks), BUT what I've learnt and the experience and memories we have made (Partner and 2 dogs) and the accomplishments achieved are sooo worth it! Seeing you starting on your beautiful cabin and making those first moves again; a time when you're stripped back to absolute necessities and nothing more and being pushed by nature to show you what you're really made of makes me really want to start all over again and enjoy a truly raw, rustic existence once more

hello Martijn, i hope you don't mind an unsolicited suggestion. i have had some experience creating temporary warm space in a barn and a warehouse space. here is what i came up with: first i tied roughly 1/8" nylon ropes to the rafters in large Xs from ceiling corners, i then slide reflectix in between the tension tied criscrossed ropes and the rafters. this forms a temporary ceiling shield. it reduces the draft coming in, reflects lighting to make the space brighter, and also kicks the rising heat back to the room. best part is, the materials all can be reused in your rebuild. It is also helpful to sleep on top of it, forms vapor barrier and kicks your body heat back to you. if you can not buy reflectix, white or silver tarp can also work to a lesser extent. well wishes! cheers 🌻🌟

ITALIAN ALPS EPISODE 2. No thanks This is a recipe for lonlinees. Its hard enough to find trustable people and hiding away from most folks or 'opting out' is the ultimate in selfishness. I was just like this character but then met someone who was psychic. It took him ten yrs to turn me around. If that has not happened to you you dont stand a chance of understanding it. By the way U/t and the other media hads been destroying our texts asnd asll our web sites are destroyed thats how much this society dreads truth. reality.fact. We are being attacked by u knowq who on behalf of u know who. The public? they dont mind either way long as their kids pass exams and the new kitchen arrives. The story is carefully stored. One day the truth will be made known.But at the moment the UK pess has it boxed in. 2.5 million people watch and subscribe to violent movies on one site alone. Thats as much as we can enter on here without it being destroyed. No change in 10.000 yrs.Got to go the 'News'i s on.By the way try being ill in that location and you will end up praying for help. We cant get any in a highly poulated area.Cheerio.

So much so, he's even survived and thrived, riding a bike - throughout many parts of the world. Where his settling down, might be that he's hoping to start his own family. That would provide him, a larger support system. Martijn has also gotten to know his closest neighbor, has internet access, or at least a small town nearby. Martin, in Alaska, the hunters would jam moss from the trees in the cracks of their cabins to keep the heat in. Then in the summer months they would make a mud using the local dirt, water, and moss, mix together to put in the cracks before winter came again.
@mangethegamer
@mangethegamer 2 года назад
Just a heads up. Some moss grow incredibly slow and play an important role in the ecosystem. It might not actually be legal to remove it. We have much harder environmental laws in Europe than in the US so Martijn should definingly look it up before he does anything that can put him in trouble with the legal system.

I would leave some of the younger birch trees though, because when the old ones die, you won't have any and birches are very useful in various ways. Also, you need some trees to give you shelter from wind and birches are not so dense that they make a lot of shade. So, cherish them! And that bush beside the house you pruned? Looks like Elder to me. If it is, then one day you could make a lemonade from the flowers! Or a soup from the berries.

I am in upstate New York, upper end of the Appalachian Plateau. I love the old stone structures. A lot of old stone houses to the south in Pennsylvania. I watch a lot of videos of abandoned homesteads in Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy. Abandoned, as people left for cities and jobs. It is great to see people return, less concerned about money and wanting to return to a less hectic way of life. Grow your own food, be self sufficient, work hard, enjoy nature, and escape the chaos of urban cities. I love watching sunsets from my hilltop property, procuring firewood, and just having a relaxing walk in our woods in the summer under the canopy of the leaves, a break from the sun and heat of summer.

Hey Martijn, I'm learning a lot from your videos. You really have to want to do something like this to make it successful. An alternative would be to simply tarp the exterior, mylar the interior and remove as you complete the work phases? Basically transform the house into a tent. It's commonly done in the RV community for winter kit, bc most RVs have no insulation or very little. You can also make "insulation pillows" for the windows by wrapping styrofoam cubes (bought or created) wrapped in mylar. The Ukrainian military are also using mylar (in the denser form of automotive dashboard reflector folding material) as winter insulation in their trenches. Bright blessings from Louisiana.

I’ve a feeling this build is going to be a lot different to others I’ve seen, just in the amount of work that needs to be done. Looking forward to the progression brother 🙏🏼

Acording to sunrise location, your cabin faces north or little bit north-west. Very rough. For solar panels the best is to be 90deg to solar rays - rotating platform for panels or at least tilting platform would be good project for maximizing charge.

Remember you will have voltage drop the longer your power cords are from solar and battery, shorter distance between all means more power 👍

You might want to burn the ends of the poles that are put in the ground. They last much longer.
@jadikka

Was about to mention the same: About the construction poles you hit to a ground in this video. I understand they maybe just for a temporary / short term use. Anyway, maybe in the future, I would recommend you to burn/char/carbonise the poles with a fire of a part that goes underground and little more above off the ground. With this technique poles will last much longer, because they rot slower and insects etc. will not like them that much.

Benvenuto in Piemonte! In the US, I might have to get a simple building permit or have a city inspection here and there, but generally, I was left alone. In Turin, we had a bunch of work to turn an office apartment back into a residence. We *had* to get a geometra even though I'm not sure what he actually did. That said, I have to admit that Italians tend to build things to last and the tradesmen we've hired have been excellent and fast. If you do have anyone come in to perform jobs, just get around 3 quotes. We've seen huge spreads on estimates (though we suspect that some of them are inflated because I'm a straniero). I've not been to Val Pellice, but my wife's family has had a place in Val Chisone for ages. Good luck!

By the way, when I state I was 'turned aroound' by someone psychic no I dont mean I spend time chanting and going asround in sandals and a robe. The changes experienced enabled me asnd others for instance victims, to confront the wrong doers which was as popular with the public as a hole in a canoe. one of the things I had been told was- 'You Will Become Very Powerful' No I didnt brelieve it either. Ask me now ? Gettoing rid us wont save this planet.
