2 STROKE TWIN 350CC 1973 YAMAHA RD350; A 50 YEAR OLD DIAMOND!! 

Wow that thing is gorgeous. Finding a stock RD that hasnt been altered (ports hogged out etc) and is in good shape like this bike is almost impossible nowadays. Usually they go from owner to owner over the decades and inevitably someone will do something to them.

I’m retired now and I’m planning a trip from the Toledo area to your museum I just have to brace my wife to be there drooling all day. So many parts of my youth and life are in that museum from road riding to motocross and trail riding. I absolutely love that RD 350 and your right that smell and the sound of a two stroke is so nice. Thanks for showing that incredible RD. I’d rather ride that than my new Z900rs or any of my bikes.

I believe it is an absolute miracle how you all find such beautiful machines that look 👀 and sound like brand new! Like some of the other comments, I too love your work and labor of love for the old machines that I used to ride and admire. Thank you Mr. Kaplan for your fine video work and for sharing with the world. I’m sure you make a lot of old guys like me drool with happiness.

i got a 73 RD 350 that my dad got brand new right off the show room floor back in 73 for his high school graduation gift from my grand father.its one of my most prized possessions.just wish the old man was still alive to enjoy it with me R.I.P DAD love ya

Just bought its predecessor a yds7 in gold and black, in mint condition, had one as a 16 year old 1971, it takes me back down to memory lane .That's a beautiful Rd 350 you have there it was the bike to have back in the day , cheers from Wales in Great Britain👍

I remember a chap having a blue one of these in 1973 up the road from me. We used to ride past his house on our pushbikes just to take a look at it 😊.

I learned how to street ride on a '73 RD350 just like that one shown in this video in 1973, buddy's folks bought him the bike for transpo back & forth to school, and turned him and all of the rest of us 15 year old young hooligans loose on it! I just remembered the fact that it did the best power wheelies, especially with a passenger on the back. Why none of us were killed on that thing is a miracle of biblical proportions! Those were the days for sure! I discovered Kawasaki triples shortly thereafter and am still hooked on 2-stroke street bikes today at age 66! Thanks man!

I had a chance to ride one of these when it was close to new. A friend had one and I had a Honda 350CL. And we switched on a ride. Someday if I get back there I’ll stop in and visit. I grew up in Hebron but live in Alaska now. I’d kid around with him about the sound of a 2 stroke. God Bless.

Had same bike, same color in the mid-eighties. Almost died on it twice, but only succeeded in flaying myself both times. My friends called me 'Road Pizza' for years thanks to the RD350 and my errant, teenaged belief that I could go everywhere I went the throttle screwed wide open.

That bike is sooo damn sweet it's sickening.

My dad had two at different times through the years but I never owned one. He first had a '74 and later a '73 just like that, even the color. The '74 was a solid purple all around. The only thing (and I do mean the only thing) I didn't like about them was their tendency to go down the highway and not hold a steady speed. You'd always have to readjust your throttle all the time. I read once that it was the reed valves that caused that. Other than that, they were great but better around town than the open highways due to the unsteady speed. Superb bikes and very well made. I later switched to Suzukis but never put down those old Yammer-hammers!!

Still has the original tail light 😂. That was one of the first parts I ground off on the road

Exact year and paint as mine!!! Except mine has spec 2 chambers,tdr reeds,and I'm running banshee pistons,basically slightly changing the porting without touching the ports,and lectron carbs.
