DrPepperDERF - hello! I grew up in Emerson, married young, & my ex & I bought a house in Park Ridge in 1970. I bought his half out when we divorced & have owned it for 45 years. Sadly my parents died recently, so I'm back in Emerson where I grew up, until I sell their house and finish all this complicated estate work. I can't wait to get home. I go back & forth. When I was on the zoning board at 21 years old, in Park Ridge, we were friends with the late Mayor Neubauer. He wanted to provide a non profit pool for the residents, so the children could learn how to swim, & had a place for them to go in the summer & also I'm a lap swimmer, (my late father was on the Olympic Team & I guess I took after him. Even though as a kid, watching him swim laps down the shore, & at the YMCA I used to think, "how boring!" Little did I know it's the best exercise for any age.) Well, when I was on the planning board for the pool, one of the by-laws was that once a resident turned 65 years old, they didn't have to pay the nominal fee. I thought to myself, well the kids will be in their forties by the time I'm 65, so surely I'll have sold the house by then. You guessed it. I still live there, & I'm happy to say I reached that magic age, and joined for free!
