2 Tweaks To Eliminate Stutters in X-Plane 12 

Just watched your video yesterday and applied the changes you identified. The result is a significantly smoother simulation in all phases of flight. I had resolved myself to living with the stutters until I upgraded my system later this year. Now, I'm quite happy with X-Plane 12 on my slightly underpowered 2 year old system which still gives me 30 fps on the default A300 and 45 fps on the Laminar SR22 and on all of the Aerobask planes in my hanger. Thanks for taking the time to figure this out for us.

Thank you so much Q8Pilot just these few small tweaks has changed my experience considerably in Xplane 12, I can now run up to 8x antialiasing smoothly at 45fps + where as before it was a no show. Keep up the great work 👍

Very helpful tips! I think XP12 now looks significantly better than on early access release. Some of the aircraft look a lot more convincing visually and in performance on XP12 compared to MSFS, most notably the Hot Start Challenger 650 on XP12.

Seriously - if there was a Nobel-price for flight-simming, I’d nominate you for it!! I’m running 6 screens off a RTX4090, 3 of them 4K, so have a fairly hefty number of pixels to draw. Applying your suggested settings has changed what occasionally was stuttering-hell, into a butter-smooth experience. Absolutely brilliant effort - thanks so very much!

after watching a number of your videos and seeing the knowledge level you share, I'm this question of you thinking that may have the answer. Question: I notice at low levels (2k msl) groves of trees around small towns that are arranged in a checker board grid pattern. Is there a way that I can minimize this unnatural looking event in X-Plane 12 ??????

hi, I did every step and my game did stop having issues, however the next day every issue showed up again, the framerate randomly drops from 50 to 10 for 3/5 seconds and then they go back to normal, making it impossible to land

Hi. Do you have a Gsync monitor? I suspect you don’t, hence the recommendation for ultra on low latency mode. I absolutely agree with rest of settings but suspect low latency not wise if you also have G Sync.

What about the shader cache folder under x-plane main install folder/output?

I wouldn't have expected you to experience any stutter issues running a RTX4090. Thanks for the tips. Your channel is by far the best "how to" resource in the flightsim community.

Thanks for the tweaks, but no joy. My stutters, actually freezes of a few seconds, appear to be CPU rather than GPU related. And with a Ryzen 9 5950x that's weird. XP12 only uses 2 cores (why they require at least 4 in the hardware specs is a mystery to me), those 2 cores are maxed out. Tried every CPU configuration (no SMT, turn off the second chiplet,...) and tried disabling the virus scanner and every other background program. If anybody has any suggestions?

Can you make a tweak tutorial video just like this one but for AMD RX6000 gpu please? I’m having a hard time finding support and tweak for amd gpu all of the tutorials I found are all Nvidia and I can’t buy a new gpu at this moment😢. I’m having a severe shuttering and bar code thing when I turn on MSAA and FXAA look very bad it’s hard to live with turning on anti aliasing to 16x does help a bit but those jagged line are still exists with FXAA I really need the MSAA working. Thank you! :) By the way, I don't understand how you can have anti-aliasing. For me, any anti-aliasing setting does nothing. Non-efficient, non-effective, non-responsive. But why? I have the same game. Or only the 40xx cards support it?

I've got a weird problem during gameplay In X-Plane 11 and 12, it changes my views by itself with no input from me, and the views keep shifting back and forth, frontwards and backward, sideways making the game pretty much unplayable, very frustrating! Please help!!!!

?4 u or anyone=last night I tried what I used to do with msfs= open run on PC type prefetch and also do same type %appdata%-delete Catastrophic!!! P3d would not start!!! My race car sims lost joysticks control assignments!!!! Panic issued!!! Luckily!!! I opened recycle bin saw all deleted Clicked=restore all!!!!! Problems solved!!!race car sims controls Work again n p3d works again all pay scenery n planes OK Will this happen again if i do as video says? No prefetch n only Do what's said!!!!.....I'll wait for response from u guys!!! N I'll check it all if a problem I'll restore from recycle bin again! Thxxx!!!! PS I was shaking after what happened....yes I did think It would improve all sims! Not only my new xplane 12copy

I'm surprised to see how bad AMD Vulkan is working compare to the Nvidia's one. I own both GPU (RTX 4080 and RX 7900XTX) and performances are halved with AMD (the GPU is not even fully loaded and CPU is idle most of the time)

It´s only for Nvidia. btw with my AMD-Card i´ve got no stutters at all.

Stutters on 4090 come on now. I can see trying to explain using an older GPU but a 4090 should run fabulous.

One thing to note. X-plane still has an issue with poor performance around sunrise and sunset hours. Validation should be done around noon to rule out that performance bug. That bug cause up to 25-30 lost in FPS.

Why do you always assume like if everyone has nvidia ? I use AMD Radeon and it's because I don't like nvidia

Helpful video thank you, but X-Plane 12 is optimized so poorly that stutters are the least of most of our concerns. I have to turn AA completely off to get FPS in the 20s at any airport in a 3rd party Felis or Colimata. There are no fixes for this and any complaints fall on deaf ears, it seems. The only reason XP12 remains valid is because of the free 3rd party products sent to RU-vidrs. Most YTers like BlueGames, XP-72, Kosta, have stated it's simply too much grief to fly in it. Unfortunately after another week or so wasted trying to get the sim to function even half as close to DCS of MSFS, I'm done.

Or just add the command line to lock the fps to a value that your system can always achieve. In my case that is the refresh rate value. Super smooth. Example: "G:\X-Plane 12\X-Plane.exe" --lock_fr=60
