dude this whole thing brings back horrific memories of arguing with friends back in the day having multiple amps that's different frequencies to drive different drivers in order to fill every last little potential gap of sound just to have somebody pull up next to you with a very good set of coaxial and sound almost as good as your $10,000 set up 2 ways to axial systems work very good at the way to go

my 2016 Forester has a huge speaker well. The stock speakers are 6.5 and all i see on RU-vid is people installing 6.5 with bracket adapters. to me this doesn't make sense.. wouldn't you use a 6x9 to try to plug up the whole speaker well? hope that makes sense... what does everyone else think? thanks

I've always been on a budget and usually buy some upper level 3 way pioneers for my doors or 6x9s for the rear. I run a amp to them & I'm good. At one point about 14 years ago i need replacements for a blown factory speaker so I grabbed a pair of lightning audio 3 ways and ran a amp to them. I didn't have any problems. I recently got a pair of 3 way dual brand speakers for free ran a amp to them & now the tweeter went out on both of them. This is what I usually do because of my budget. My 1st set of speakers where 3 way Jensen s back in 1996 I has a Sony tape deck & I ran a Rockwood 50x2 amp to them. bumpin'

Ques: about passive xover from my component speakers, my HU (pioneer 80PRS) has active xover mode,do i need to to remove the passive xover from the speakers when using the active xover,?

Some coaxial speakers come with cross overs for the tweeter rather than just piggybacking them. Would it be beneficial to use three way cross overs and add a separate driver for mids or lows? I have some older vibe sonic response 5.25 coaxials that use two way cross overs, they make really nice bass down to maybe 45-50hz but if I turn up the system the mids warble/ distort a little, if I set the hpf on the head unit to remove some of the lower frequencies the mids clean up nicely and can handle much higher volume, I already have some 3 way cross overs left over from some vibe space 3d speakers which I could use would you recommend adding some 4" for mids or some 6.5" for lows instead?

My car doesn't have the A-pillar cutout or wiring for a component tweeter, so does this mean that the best I can do is a 2-way coaxial with a pivoting tweeter like the JBL GTO629? Already replaced the OEM headunit with a nice Pioneer and can hear an improvement...would an entry level speaker like that JBL not make any difference compared to the OEM speakers since I will not be adding an amp?

So, I have the Jetta Mk5 you guys mention with the factory 3-way component locations for 6.5" woofer, 4" mid-range and tweeter in the A-pillar. I bought and installed the Pioneer DEH-80PRS about six months ago and would now like to upgrade the rest. The stock Dynaudio system is starting to show its age. I was looking at 3-way sets like the Precision Power P.65C3 you guys have on your website and even the Focal Access 165 A3 set, which I admit is a little more than I want to spend on just speakers for the front doors at $500 on amazon. This is my first ever system install, so I'm learning as I go. The DEH-80PRS has a built in crossover network with 5 volt pre-amp component outputs. What would you guys recommend for a speaker/amplifier setup? I'll probably only need a single sub in the rear, maybe a 12". What do you think?

what do you think about premium oem systems with 20 speakers , do you really need that many speakers to create amazing sound. Example Audi Bang & Olefsun system.

I have component 6.5 in the front doors, a 3.5 center speaker in the dash, a 6.5 coaxial in rear doors and component 6x9 in rear above rear seats . I changed all the speakers to jbl and with 12 inch woofer by mb quarts. what I would like to know is what amplifier or amplifiers should I use for the12 channels I have to amplify also what is a good double din radio for me. How 3 way loud speaker divides the power output of the amplifier..as we all know that a three way loud speaker composed of woofer lets as say 500 watts then midrange of 300 watts and tweeter of 100 watts as a loudspeaker as a whole it becomes 900 watts maybe if we add.my question how the power output of the amplifier devides between the three drivers wherein it has defferent wattage. Hi Guys, great vids. I have a 2011 Impala and just bought two 12" MTX subs and a Hifonic amp. I understand you're saying that more tweeters causes more blocking of the mid ranges, so my question is how do I accomplish both: 1) Not blocking the mid ranges and get clear sound, BUT ALSO... 2) Having the high frequencies loud enough to balance the lows coming from the subs. If I get a GREAT quality 3-way speaker, might it sound best with my subs? Or do you think a good 2-way will have loud enough highs while also having the clearest output of mids? Thanks!

Well you answered the question of the 2 way vs. 3 way but you never touched base on the size and wattage aspect of the question. let me alter the question a bit. I have a kenwood DDX394 which outputs 50w x4 equaling 200 Watts . Say I buy Rockford Fosgate Punch P1650 speakers with Max wattage of 220 Watts. How would the lack of 5 Watts effect the performance of the speakers? and what would happen if with the same radio and Pyle PLG6C 2 way speakers rated at 400 Watts?

You also forgot to mention that most 3way coaxles are using the same capacitor to crossover both tweeters, so you think the 3way speaker is better but in reality you have a 1inch tweeter and a .75inch tweeter that are both crossed over at the same point playing the same frequencies. Also another thing to note is usually that 3way speaker that you pay more for is using 2 lower quality and cheaper metal dome tweeters compared to a nicer silk dome tweeter on a 2way coaxle.

a 3way with a true good 2-3" dome midrange going very low with a small supertweeter taking after 8khz would be a lot better than any 2way in my personal opinion... that is if the crossover is perfect in everyway the woofer could be a lower range midwoofer since crossed lower.. 6x9 3way with true audiophile dome mid.. where can i find this? i would leave 40-45hz and bellow to subwoofer tho..

Umm.. Thank you for .. kind of answering this question.. but .. depending on the manufacturer.. and price.. a 3 way speaker with a woofer, and tweeter will sound better than a 2 way that only consists of a midrange speaker, and tweeter. It also depends heavily on your setup. If you have an amp, and a subwoofer than no you don't need a 3 way speaker. Your low end comes from a dedicated sub woofer. But if you have a car deck, and don't plan on installing an amp, and sub woofer than the clear answer would be 3 way. This way there's a space for your low end to go rather than sharing your low end with the midrange driver. But to say that a 3 way blocks too much of the sound due to covering the circumference of the speaker is really ridiculous. A 2 way or 3 way speaker will sound perfectly fine so long as you avoid really cheap products. If you compare a 10 dollar 6.5 inch Jensen something to a 2 way or 3 way by.. any other brand than the other brand is going to win. Also maybe look into what you have in your vehicle. Don't replace your factory speakers with something like a 10 dollar Jensen if the factory speaker clearly outperforms the speaker your replacing it with.
