This video is a 2 week update featuring the chicks that were part of an experimental hatch. Three factors were tested to see if the shape of the egg, the temperature of egg storage, and a lower incubation temperature resulted in more hens than roos. It's still a little early to make a final decision of each chick's gender, but it sure is fun to keep guessing as they continue to grow and change!

Just do the Wing Exam. It's 💯 percent accurate.

Thanks for your advice but actually wing sexing is not accurate with my mixed breed flock. I have a mix of easter Eggers, which is already a mixed breed. They are super-mutts! I also have several breeds where wing sexing won't work,, including Welsummer, Silkie, Delaware... too many :-). Thanks for leaving a comment!

@@SayWhyChickenThigh oh, ok, I didn't realize that Wing sexing wouldn't work on mix breeds. I was under the impression that it worked for all heritage breeds, and cross breed heritage breeds. However, Easter eggers aren't a heritage breed. I have chicks hatching right now that are game/Easter egger cross, then pure black ameraurcanas, and then some pure rose comb brown leghorns. I'll try the Wing sexing on them and see how it turns out. I'll save this video and try to remember to reply back with how it turns out... blessings

Oh, your flock sounds beautiful! I am very interested in how everything turns out for you as well. I did actually wing sex all of this flock at 3 days old just for fun and wrote down my guess based on that alone. The crosses from my Isa Brown hen were pretty easy to wing sex, but others, like the Silkie crosses, were a shot in the dark. I find it so fun to play the 'hen vs roo' game since the flock changes so much each week as they age. I start to notice the changes to the comb, and tail feathers, and try to make comparisons to heritage breeds to see if they feather out the same way. But this flock of mine are Frankenchicks and for many it will be a few more weeks before their gender reveal. I would love to see how your Easter Egger/Game crosses look, and what hues of eggs they will lay. That mix sounds so colorful. Best of luck!
