John D. Liu, who was involved in the massive Chinese Loess Plateau restoration project, now turns his eyes towards Rwanda in this inspiring example of permaculture observation and action.
In this new film you'll see John analyzing developments in Africa, where Rwanda is now the focus of an earnest bid to restore its degraded forests and farmland, whilst simultaneously improving the lives of the communities they host. You'll see many excellent examples of holistic thinking in this short documentary. You'll also learn of the praiseworthy work of Dr. Rene Haller, whose observational skills are highly adept at tailoring biological solutions towards rehabilitating the most degraded of lands.

What a brilliant example of impact film-making. It inspires you into action! For those who don't know, John D Liu founded Ecosystem Restoration Camps around the world, which accept volunteers and offer courses on system restoration. Learn hands on from the veterans!

Another Great Video !! Thank God for bringing it to my attention. I pray that since this was filmed that many people all over the world have been awakened and are now actively changing their lifestyle and paying it forward to help others. I'm on a similar quest in the poorest country in the US and giving hope where is has been none. Showing people how to live within their means and build their self esteem and confidence just as you are. Thank you for sharing your passion and altruism for so many.

Am watching this in 2020. This is so hopeful. Any updates since its publication in 2013?

that's really good but also tricky, since many people who traditionally live in sovereign own houses are not happy about being forcibly replaced to move to villages and the new social clogging. another option cd be to empower permaculture in those small units - like Luwayo does with Permaculture Paradise Institute in Malawi (you dont need money to grow food) ... in fact, even in the language, people in this video are only labeled as POOR, but they also have culture, soul etc etc and displacement is not cool.

Interesting film. A missed opportunity with the housing........ Straight lines, no paths, no terracing, now windows

And the "scientists" are still telling us how vegetation has nothing to do with rain water. Just our immagination.

Couldn't understand half of what they said, distracted by the omnipresent annoying music...even in your documentaries, Prof. Liu :-((

Not all industry is equal, industry can be sustainable, i.e wind turbines, solar, hydrogen energy, medicine. Once these clichés are overcome people will be more likely to engage. For example we can have a tip top smart phone that is fair to all: www.fairphone.com/
