2 years!!!. Been watching Van man talks for over two years . Need a lie down 😁. If the van suits your business then it makes sense to keep it another year. £1 a day running cost ( excluding lease) is insane.

FWIW 3KW is about what you can expect to get from a normal domestic 13A supply, if the charger is plugged into a wall socket then that's all you can get. If you have had a bigger supply run from the fuse board by a sparky then maybe the charger hasn't been configured to pull the current that it now has available.

Thanks for sharing the videos - probably the best and most genuine about the eTransporter. I just bought mine after long consideration. It is two years old and just 4.7k on the clock. Charging speed is great at just over 7kWh and 60 miles cost about £2.20 on charge anytime tariff (6.67 pence per kWh.) Heating and radio on - range in town is 65 miles in heavy traffic with average speed of 14 mph. Using ohme home pro charger overnight. Van is loaded with app 200 kg and little impact on battery. It's good time to buy one as people don't appreciate its usefulness yet.

@@vanmantalks always enjoy your content and love a good drive around the countryside lol. Hope you and the family are doing well and had a good summer. Oh, I just remembered: a lot of left-leaning channels on you tube are complaining about sudden demonetization and other issues. I have also noticed that YT seem to be Unsubscribing people from these commentators without notification or warning, so, check your sub numbers often! I found that I had been Unsubbed from several commentators such as Phil, Max and Marcus ('All Shorts') in France! Weird stuff going down. Take care and keep up the fight! Cheers from Brunei.

Have you tried charging on a public AC charger and see what you get? This issue sounds fixable to me. Possible problems may be 1. The amps on your home charger may be reduced due to the main fuse on your incoming supply not being high enough this would explain your low charge voltage. 2. Check to see if you have “Reduced AC Current” turned on in the charge settings screen, that’s what it’s called on ID Buzz and your van may be the same.

There's something wrong with either your home charger or the van's on-board charger. You should try it on a commercial AC charger - they're all over the place in car parks. Rapid chargers use a different system (DC) and bypass the on-board charger.

As with others, I can only suggest that the onboard charge rate is configured wrongly. Home charging at 6.6Kwh is normal for virtually every EV in Europe, Maybe other VW van owners can comment on their experiences.

I'm no expert but from what I understand it's the power pack installed in your house that's the problem . Because our electric grid system lacks the infrastructure to cope with a full charge there is a device installed in the power pack that only allows half charge .

I'm a same day business courier who uses a diesel transporter. I get about 800 miles on a full tank. I can easily do 2-300 miles per day. Until VW can up the range to at least 200 miles per between charges I won't be bothering. How much does the range drop if the van is full? Personally I think the future is either hydrogen or synthetic fuels.

Be interested to know if this Transporter has ever had the magical non opening doors endemic in t6 Transporters? Mine suffered from that several times a year since new. Been back in while under warranty loads of times and now I just have to live with it. Worse is the fact that the side door is all racked out and you cant get access that way, so if either back or side sliding door decides not to unlock you are screwed. I know through the forum this was a very regular problem.

If you can only charge at 3 Kwh at home but upto 50 kwh at super charger, then the problem sounds like your household charger has been throttled back by the installer, rather than the van???

Superchargers are 'Rapid' chargers and supply DC straight to the vehicle's battery. Home chargers are 'Fast' chargers that supply AC to the vehicle's on-board charger. On-board chargers are usually rated at 7.5kw, or 22kw for 3 phase chargers. If the on-board charger will only handle 3kw, that's what limiting it - that would be extremely unusual. He should try another AC charger (e.g. in a supermarket car park etc)

I would be interested in a comparison with an electric van in hilly area such as Yorkshire, the Lake District and Wales just to see how far you can go before needing to recharge ( if you can spare the time ) or reducing your working hours to get to a charging point. The whole EV scenario has not beeen properly thought out.

Using fossil fuels to indirectly power a van, and they still think they're doing their bit for the environment.
@leecooper8589
@leecooper8589 9 месяцев назад
What? Are you arguing that more of this Country's base load supply should come from renewables? In that case I would totally agree. 100% would be great but probably not achievable without a huge change in Government policy which currently seems closely aligned with the interests of fossil fuel providers. This, despite the impact a crisis involving a major fossil fuel provider invading a European country has had on the cost of this form of energy and all our bills. It's been very good for fossil fuel suppliers, though. Their profits have gone through the roof. In the first quarter of this year the UK Government's own figures state that 47.8 of the UK's electricity came from renewables. That's nearly half that would otherwise have been provided by burning fossil fuels. Quite a lot of that was used to power vehicles that otherwise would have been burning fossil fuels. What happens is that public charging firms will be buying their electricity from renewable energy suppliers and so will most that use home chargers for their electric vehicles as those offer the best tariffs. As electric vehicles become more widespread there will be even more demand for that energy to come from renewables. Then, what of the localised pollution of having millions of vehicles running around ALL burning fossil fuels going straight past where most people live rather than burning 1/2 as much in far off remote places in a much more efficient manner? So, just to be totally clear; you don't think that there's any point in running electric vehicles because we don't have 100% renewable energy supply. Come on, what's your real reason?
@solentbum
@solentbum 9 месяцев назад
As I type this the Renewable energy in the UK grid is 52% and the Carbon neutral element 66%. (incl Nuclear) Gas is 11% , Oil and coal is 0%. There are also elements from Imports from France Norway and Netherlands, mostly renewable. 1010. 07/10/2023. (edited to Add Oil consumption)
@trytellingthetruth.2068
@trytellingthetruth.2068 9 месяцев назад
@@leecooper8589 "47.8% of UK electricity supply came from renewables and quite a lot of that was used to power vehicles". There are 900,000 EV's registered in the UK, and going by your figures, "quite a lot" (what ever that means) of the 47.8% renewable energy generated was used to charge those EV's. Now compare the 900,000 EV's with the roughly 38 million vehicles in the UK that use fossil fuels. There will need to be more than a 400% increase in the renewable energy generated just to charge EV's once ICE vehicles are no longer able to be used. This 400% increase doesn't take into account the energy needed to run all the homes, businesses, etc. Then we have the damage caused to the environment by digging out the lithium and cobalt, and the dangers to the children (Blood batteries) used in the extraction the minerals. This doesn't take into account the increase in the costs of buying these minerals, with lithium now known by another name, White Gold. The cost to buy EV's is already extortionate and will continue to be so, along with the inevitable increase in cost to charge them. The Russian/Ukrainian conflict and the effects of it on oil and gas prices, is all down to the West's sanctions and so is self inflicted. P.S. We are now hearing that people are getting into fights at public charging points due to the amount of time drivers are having to wait to charge the vehicles.

Yup statistics, I can tell you from personal experience working on these jobs, quite a few coal power stations have changed from coal to biomass , and the ports I.e imminghan and Liverpool hold this biomass , only issue is a big one , what is biomass ? Its trees cut into chippings , resin and other chemicals to bind together mainly coming from South America , shipped to the U.K. and burnt instead, that counts as a renewable and towards our net 0. Just think about that for a minute, and that’s what is better for the environment, burning trees , ship from other side of planet and now theirs less trees to help soak up the co2 , I use to love the idea of net 0 and helping the environment but seeing is believing and iv seen enough of this bs, it’s the unfortunate reality, I wish wind was enough but as a electrician I understand the numbers and how little demand that can cover for our national use, the amount of turbines needed to power the U.K. would blow most peoples mind and isn’t possible with useable space, the only solution to cut co2 drastically and enough output is nuclear but that has a whole host of worries in its self, it would need huge investment to increase its safety and a real plan for nuclear waste to work also, but it’s the most realistic option in my humble opinion
