Georgia's parliament gave initial approval on Wednesday to a bill on "foreign agents" that the European Union said risked blocking the country's path to membership and triggered protests for a third straight night. The fate of the bill is widely seen as a test of whether Georgia, 33 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, intends to pursue a path of integration with the West or move closer towards Russia.

Strength to the Georgian people 🇬🇪

The Georgian people have 150 democratically elected MPs voting in their parliament. They are the law makers and they do represent the will of the people.. Conveniently ignored by these reports. Because the root concern here is not the will of the people, it's the protection of the work of American and EU NGOs who seek to influence Georgia.

@@jptrainor Visit Poland to see what EU influence looks like. Visit Belarus to see what Russian influence looks like. Draw your conclusions.

i don't know why it's controversial. USA has very similar law, to stop outside influence.

American and EU NGOs don't want to be forced to disclose their work in Georgia. The media attention is about their desire to influence Georgia without accountability. And it's pretty much guaranteed that these Georgia protests are not grass roots. They've been organized by those very NGOs.

No agency whose actions can greatly influence the political course of a country should be allowed to receive more than 20% of its funding from foreign government without actually disclosing it. What is democracy without transparency.

"I need you to find 11,000 votes... Oh, is this Georgia?"

Be careful: Georgia should remin neutral and just take advantage of the trdes they make with Russia. Also Russians living in Georgia for political reasons should not mix with georgian politic.
