It was £1.40 for an under 16 to stand on the Kop and £2.50 for an adult. The stands were a fiver. I was at this game 36 years ago and it has passed in the blink of an eye 😢
@distantvoices mostly, the atmosphere was great - especially the night matches. The Kop alone would make most of the noise, but some matches would see the entire stadium bouncing. Checkout Liverpool at home to St Etienne 1977 European Cup. Three sides of the ground had standing areas and that was a famous night for atmosphere.
It was an appalling winter, even snow on xmas day if i remember. The marks are sand filling in all the holes as the ground was frozen and their was no undersoil heating.
How I wish we proper football fans could have footy like this again instead of this awful expensive pap shit that passes for football now! No diving, disrespecting the officials, stupid goal celebrations, players on 500k a week, season tickets costing thousands of pounds, weird haircuts or pink boots! Just football.
I was hit in the face by that ball, it was absolutely freezing and I was just 10yrars old, I was on the railings and dalglish hit this shot that was deflected over the bar, and hit a crush barrier and rebounded into my face cos I was watching the ball, fuck me I was in pain but we won 4-0 anyway !
