Great video!! Thanks! If I may: 1). I think we don’t really know how great these Decca engineers were if we don’t listen to the operas they recorded. 2). If memory serves, Kenneth Wilkinson was once asked which recording he was proudest of through the years, and his answer was “The War Requiem/Benjamin Britten”.

@davidchan8108 I do try w/ the operas but I rarely make it through all 4 or 5 disks. War Requiem is a stunning recording! I saw an ORG 45 of it the other day at Amoeba for 50 bucks and I passed it up, I regretted it as soon as I got home.

@@FLOWERINGSPIKESThanks for your reply. I’m guessing it was the Britten Nocturnes on ORG 45 that you saw at Amoeba, not War Requiem. Good that you didn’t buy, it’s now on huge discount for only $25 at elusive!

@@davidchan8108 You are 100% correct, It was nocturne! Same kind of black and white cover and font, there was a London ORG Borodin 2+3 also, I didn't get them because I already have great sounding originals of all of them but my ORG's of Bizet and Falla do sound stellar

Great video for me as a fellow Decca obsessive, fascinating selection and incredibly instructive about the CS equivalent options to eclipse, SPA, ace of diamonds etc. I fully agree about the joy of ongoing opportunities within classical to buy achingly beautiful music for tiny amounts and hope more audiophiles take the plunge. I’ve also got the Schubert on Analogphonic but sadly post Brexit importing from Germany has doubled the cost of these unique records. I’m fascinated by Decca mono so took advantage of some of the Analogphonic pressings near impossible to get in the wild, the Campoli encores are exceptional as well as Fournier Cello recital. The Brahms Sonata Backhaus/Fournier doesn’t quite reach the heights of the others but I’m just pleased to have a vinyl copy as have lost count of the number of times eBay bidding for the original LXT has got ridiculous. Looking forward to your future videos. Best wishes Simon.

Thank you Simon! The Starker/ Italian sonatas on analogphonic is really amazing. I'm sort of confined to whatever Acoustic Sounds currently has in stock as the only place here I can source them.

@@FLOWERINGSPIKES I’m so pleased you had a positive experience getting an Analogphonic release as the few mentions about them on forums do give a misleading negative impression that certainly hasn’t been my own experience. If AS do get a wider range of stock in one I can strongly recommend after buying a copy is Decca SXL Schubert Bridge Chamber music/ Rostropovich Britten which is a great sounding repressing of one lp near impossible to pick up as an original without paying a fortune.

@@analogueanorak1904 I have that one and find it to be one the best sounding records I own! I read very little forums or blogs or reviews, I sort of exist in a bubble of my own interpretations. (:

Excellent Video thank you for this. I fancy myself a narrowband appreciator as well, they are just so consistently fantastic sounding for usually a decent price. Judging from your extensive collection you may know of these already but on the topic of budget audiophile on Decca may I suggest the ballet works from Richard Bonynge / National Philharmonic. He recorded a lot of lesser known ballet works much of it (if not all) was recorded in Kingsway hall with Kenneth Wilkinson. Le Cid and Meyerbeer Les Painteurs is a standout disc for me and has a really great presence CS 7032.

@VinylBliss Thank you, I'm looking up those titles now, they are cheap! I really only ever thought of him as a conductor of opera, Never heard any of his Ballet. G

@@FLOWERINGSPIKES Yeah, but being based in Europe I wonder if I may have just as much luck finding the Decca versions, or even more likely the Ace of Diamond re-issues. I noticed there were no Brahms in your list? I just listened to the DG release of Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 with BSO and Ozawa and found I really like Brahms. Any recordings of this symph to recommend?
@FLOWERINGSPIKES
@FLOWERINGSPIKES 11 месяцев назад
@@RaviNewfarm Ha, ya when I was on tour in Germany I saw Can, Faust, Tangerine dream records the same way you see fucking Linda Ronstadt records here. I have actually considered flying to London to pick up all the HMV and Decca and fly them home. As for Brahms, I love his symphonies, I must have 10 copies each of all 4 of them...videos coming soon!

Good call on UK London budget buys. You can't go wrong with any Londons from the 50s to even the 80s. Some of those 80s digital LP are surprisingly good.

True! I have some Kyung Wha Chung digital recordings of bartok and beethoven from the 80's and they sound amazing.

Great records and certainly great recordings, however I think your wrong about what you can get these for in the US. They would not be cheap.

I live in L.A. and there's like 25 record stores around town and I see most of these all the time. It could be much different in your city or if you had to buy them online but for me they bare cheap!

I you haven't heard Solti's Bartok Miraculous Mandarin Suite with the London Symphony you need to. The final chase is savagely barbaric in a perfect way.

@user-tv3bu9jd3v I do have that record w/ music for strings, percussion, and celesta on the B side. I have an original Decca so didn't make it on the "affordable" list! I love both pieces.

Please take the time to write a list of the records and put it in the description box. The easiest way to do this is to work in a Word document, then cut and paste. Thanks for the video!
