It is important !! People said to me " you are too young to go grey"!" But I said " my husband is grey and that doesnt bother anyone!" They now all love it haha.
They used to tell me the same thing ur too young to go gray , ur husband will look out for other girls ... Etc .... But hey ... I am the master of myself and I do whatever I want to my head ... I'm better with greys and hair than dying it and losing it all someday
@@cynthiam1381 Society has always judged women unfairly in many many ways. Society has always said it's Ok for men to go gray but its not Ok for women. It's a double standard, Ok. We women have always had it hard, I don't know if EVER this will change, it should. I personally don't think this is fair and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I've been on the grey train for 10 months now. I'm 28. Got my first grey at 17. My friend the other day was like ew dude you gotta fix those roots there. I got extremely insecure and ordered hair dye online immediately... But then I started googling people's grey journeys and found so many inspiring stories and pictures. I had been so proud of my silver hairs I was so excited to get more until that comment from her. I thought screw this, I loved it up until that point. This is MY life. MY hair and I will not let someone else make me feel poorly for something that is plain and simply me. This isn't just about the way my hair looks, it's about accepting myself the way I am. It's about shedding that bullshit mask to fit in to society, to be accepted by other women and be attractive to men. I feel free letting my hair grow. I like to say I'm not letting myself go.. I'm letting myself grow. I can't wait to see how it grows out. I find it so interesting how each woman's grey hair looks so unique, such different patterns and tones. I think it's so beautiful and like Lisa is saying, we can be that person to give someone else who is questioning their journey the courage to take the plunge. Anyways!! :) Great video

I am in tears. This video hit me to my core. I have naturally mid value hair, kind of light brown with some warm tones, but I have been greying since I was in my twenties and coloring my hair blonder and blonder and blonder. I am 53, not of the selfie generation, and I had not really gotten a good look at myself other than in the mirror until someone recently sent me a picture. I was blown away how washed out that I looked -sickly and weak. I pulled out some photos of my young natural hair and I looked so much healthier. I knew that to dye my hair all over with my natural color was impossible for my budget, but I thought that I could foil in some low lights of my natural color to give my hair more dimension and contrast. It cost me over 200 dollars at a very well-reviewed, upscale salon. I ended up with brassy orange hair. It was so bad. I just lost my job due to my store closing and could not really afford to get a professional color correction, so I tried to color correct with a blue shampoo several times, but it was so unbearably unattractive. I knew that I needed confidence to go out on interviews. I bit the bullet and made another appointment and ended up basically with lighter gold hair which is a little better, but still looks wrong on me and cost me again over 200 which I should not be spending right now. My natural grey is a bright, vibrant white that almost sparkles. I have a very clear and bright complexion and I think it will look very much in harmony with me. My mother has the same hair, and it is striking. But I have been so worried about people thinking that I am a senior citizen. I am a very active, energetic person. Also, when I asked a former hair stylist about letting my grey grow out, she said that I will look so much older than my age. Your video and a few others on RU-vid have convinced me. I am done! I am embracing my natural color. Thank you!
The day before my last colour appointment I kept catching sight of myself in the mirror with the greys and starting to change my mind about hating them. It really lightened my complexion. I was starting to like it. I went to the salon and got it coloured black as usual(I’m Chinese), but for the first time ever I got a shock when I saw it- it looked like a mask…and it is a mask. It was like the light within that was starting to shine through got covered up and dulled everything. And I was quite sad and emotional when I realised how I’ve been hiding so much more than my gray hair. It is time to get real. That was only 2/3 weeks ago…roots are clearly visible now. Early days on this journey.

Well I am 57 and have been coloring my hair since I was 17! I have been doing this silver train for a year on March 6th. I love the freedom and low maintenance. Thank goodness for the inspiring people on this train with me. I know I am old and should be gray, but the ones who are younger than me, it is freedom!

Another bonus is decreased environmental impact! I have been trying to reduce my use of single use plastics. Having to color my hair every 3 weeks added no small amount of plastic into the environment. The chemicals we don't want going into our bodies--- we also don't want going out into the environment! Thank you for the reinforcement in this video. I am on the last couple inches of the growing out process and hoping to start 2022 all silver!
Yep, Lisa, people have already started complimenting me on my hair. 'Course I thought they were being supportive. Then the other day, my HUSBAND, who never, ever comments on my hair, said, "Your hair is looking really good." I was floored!
OMG! That is the best day ever. It's like, we have to do this for ourselves and we do. BUT when the ones we love come around and start supporting us it just feels SO GOOD and it helps to solidify everything we think we think. Like, I think I like it...but do I? Hang in there it only gets better...it took me 22 months..regular oil treatments with a combination of castor oil and black seed oil for the scalp followed by a vinegar rinse diluted in water for shine and it also keeps white hair white. And regular trims every 6 months. You want the end result to be healthy and shiny. Good luck!
Yes, came across your video on Google and it was wonderful. Been going grey now for a few months. At first I was a bit scared it wouldn't look right but then I realized this is how the Lord made me, of course it would look right. It's our culture that brainwashed us making us think that grey is not the way. I feel so free and beautiful going grey. I feel like my true self. I'm grateful there is no more dye every where in my bathroom. No more extra steps when doing my hair. No more extra money being spent. No more getting under the dryer then having to rinse it out. It's pure freedom. I'm so blessed to realize that God said grey hair is a crown of Glory, that's when I said, I'm doing this because my God called it glory. So yes, it's a beautiful experience and I'm happy to not be going along with the crowd. My God likes it, my husband likes it, I like it, so who the heck cares if no one else likes it. And I'm really glad that so many women support me and call me brave (which is kind of strange for no men is called brave for going grey). I went gray nine years ago but went back. The hair dresser who I went to to dye it asked "Are you sure?? Your gray is so great." That was amazing ... but I did it anyway. Mistake !! I REGRET going back to coloring !! I am ready to do this for good now. Done. Thanks for your support. :)

I definitely needed this today. I have been debating whether I should go natural or to keep coloring (I use henna) and the thought of having to do this into my 70s....exhausts me. Living in a society that equals going gray = getting older and not wanting to upkeep your appearance does not help.
I ditched the dye last July 2019 my hair was thinning out I used to go to the beauty salon after colouring it used to leave a ring around the forehead and in the scalp I washed my hair everyday to make it look natural now I feel free it’s platinum with my black it looks like I have highlights my hair is thicker and healthier your natural glory this is a god gifted phase in your life some don’t even live this far to aging gracefully so embrace

Wow. Thank you! When Covid hit, I didn't dye my hair for 4 months, then I had an in-salon appointment, and I dyed it again. I remember thinking, "Why did I do that!" I've been thinking of going gray for a while, but hearing all of your benefits and seeing how great you look (your hair and confidence!), I've finally decided to go all in.
Yeah, I felt the same way just two days ago I had my hair colored and the next day I thought I don’t like the color and it look unnatural. So now I’m back at square one, growing out gray 😊🤍
I dont expect this to be ever read by anyone but me, but Ive never given voice to this, so here goes. I last colored my hair at the end of march 2018 (I had a wedding to go to, otherwise, that would probably not have happened) Four tears before that I lost my life partner to a heart attack (I was 41) and I don't know if his death and the subsequent stress and depression brought on the halo quicker or if I was so out of it that I didn't notice or care, but I was kind of startled at how quickly my gray patches grew. I have a lot of long curls and am a no-fuss, wash and wear kind of gal, so the sportiness and patches, turned into natural highlights. I still get the odd "wow, you are GRAY" like I didn't notice or asif it's a subtle hint to go get a proper colour job. At my last hair appointment in June, (I'm now 48) the last of the coloured remnants got cut and the salt is slowly overtaking the pepper, which I'm completely ok with. I now have healthy virgin hair again for the first time in 3 decades. I can't control a lot, but my hair has always been one of my best features and I'm proud of how I have had the self control not to fall for the colour trap. My hair texture is changing, which I will have to relearn, but I am finding that I actually feel more empowered, the more I go gray. Its like the gray is a testament of my life's journey and embracing the gray, helps me to let go of the darkness that has been following me for a while now. Aaaaanyway. So sorry for your loss Annetijie - it's really weird to see a part of yourself change. Especially one that we have known in only one way for so long. Give yourself time with your new look. I think sometimes we see "absence" as being void of something. But that is not true. There is beauty and control and intention in the absence. For example, I've always wanted a tattoo. I think they are edgy and fun and super cool but I don't have one...yet. And I see beauty in the absence here as well. It's taken a lot of will power over the years at times to NOT get a tattoo. Like, choosing not to get a tattoo is just a beautiful and fun as it is as choosing to adorn your body with a tattoo. The absence does not mean less than, or secondary or thoughtless. Sometimes it means the exact opposite and even more.
You helped me so much on my transition! I buzzed my head 3 months ago and had my transition done at once (not a very patient person), but I am so amazed how much I love my hair now, after 20 years hating it.
Isn't that amazing?! We go through life HATING our hair and not even realizing it OR realizing it but not realizing we can actually change that. So glad you have found peace!

Every thing you said is so true and your hair looks great! I’m 63 and decided to stop coloring my hair cold turkey back in January before the Covid. My hair was thinning and now Its healthier, thicker and I love the different vibrations of gray and silver. I am in transition now and I still have some negative self talk...one is how do I know I will look good...because you and some other women I have seen are very pretty and can look good in a paper bag...either way I am going to embrace this journey because I want to live more authentically!
You've got this Madison! Believe it or not, I was telling myself my hair was a mousy gray and would not look good grown out when I first started too. I think it's just part of breaking down that stigma and debunking the lies we are so used to telling ourselves. Give it a chance friend. Like fingerprints, your gray hair was meant just for you.

Lisa, you are beautiful inside and out and I find your videos so motivational and inspiring. I'm 58 and I ditched the dark hair dye in April 2019. It was the best decision I've made in a long time. I like to keep my hair close to shoulder length, so it will take another 9 months or so to be completely rid of all the dyed ends. I too am loving my natural salt and pepper colored hair and I love how authentic I now feel. I have two older sisters who tell me they aren't ready to stop dyeing, but they are supportive of me. Hi there! As I got older I wanted to cover that gray, but it always showed through no matter how often I tried covering it (color resistant). Until I REALLY noticed these 2 big bands of silver at the front of my hair. I thought oh WOW "bride of Frankenstein!" But the more I allowed myself to embrace it, the more I liked it. I just turned 60 and to think I've earned ever single strand of gray and owning it. Dye free 12 yrs now.

Great video. I'm 18 months into my journey and just got a significant haircut so I'm almost finished my transition. It's the best decision I could have made. I am about 14 months in, with super long hair! I had been dying my hair chocolate brown for years, I am shocked at my natural colour having auburn, blond, brown and silver lol I had no idea what my natural colour was under all that dye lol I am 42 and been dying since 15. I am so glad I have started growing it out ..I am going to get to see all the colours as I get more and more grey. I needed this I am 13 months in and I cut off my hair and I’m hating my two toned hair right now. I told myself it will be better when it’s longer and I need to wait until it’s all grown out to make a decision but I came so close to calling a salon to dye it today ! Thanks
I am whole grey, but have short hair now. But it is thick and healthy and I am letting it grow... Can't wait till it is your length !! I am 49 years and my husband thinks it makes me old, but I think it will be beautiful if it is a little bit longer. So I am hanging in there!!

Thanks for watching Patricia! In my experience, you have to seek out the support at the beginning but by the end it will come on its own. People have way of coming around. Remember, we have typically thought about going gray for months if not years before actually going gray so while we are ready for it, our family has not had that same time to transition. My hair has been mostly grey since my 20’s. I am mid-50’s. My long, dark hair has always been my thing. I started colouring it myself during lockdown and have continued to do so. But it’s too dark. The thought of sitting for hours getting the colour stripped out, a lighter colour and highlights…. I just can’t do it. It’s two months since I coloured my hair and I’m going to see how it goes. My mum started colouring hers at my age. She had short hair and it always looked fine. Then she had chemo, she lost it all. But when it started to grow it was salt and pepper, really short and it looked beautiful. It was so much better than the red she had and the style. The short, short pixie look was fantastic and my dad loved it. So I’ll take some inspiration from her, too, as she threw the wig out and kept her hair super short.

Hi there! I’m 11 weeks into my transition and one thing that has happened to me at this early stage is the fact that my scalp is no longer showing as in scarce hair and new hair is growing right around my forehead. This was something I was struggling with the past five years and right now I can no longer see my scalp and it has been covered by new hair which is just unbelievable! I guess I was frying up my scalp with hair dye and now finally it’s healing with new hair growth and I wish I had done this much sooner 👍🙏💛

I admired and complimented women on their gray hair, I thought they looked absolutely beautiful! For some reason, I just didnt like my own gray hair. I'm slowly learning to embrace it. I have a halo of white at the crown. My hair had been dark brown till I hit my 30's and grays started poking through. I just turned 59 so I have been dying my hair 25 plus years. Love your hair. Simply gorgeous. I was a natural brunette. I would spend a fortune on highlights and so much time at the hair salon. Stopped dying my hair in 2015. My hair is a beautiful silver colour, collar bone length with some deeper brown beneath. So yes, If I wear a pony tail, bun, etc., you see beautiful natural lowlights peeking through. I have received many compliments from women, men about how much they love my hair. I have been called Emmylou Harris. My hair is pretty much identical to hers and I even look like her. Best decision I ever made. Occasionally there are some nay sayers but it doesn't bother me, I am confident about going gray. My complexion does look better and I am exploring different colours......I am 69 years old. Beautiful journey for me......

Hair going grey is just about the most beautiful thing in this world. It can happen so slowly for some people, and it adds so much depth and nuance to your natural color. It happens different for everyone, and it's one of the things that makes you who you are. That process of aging. Is a good thing. Holy, don't pretend you're in middle school still and haven't changed at all! NOPE!
Moc děkuji za užasné myšlenky a děkuji za české titulky.Doufám ,že i dále vás budu sledovat s překladem.Děkuji.Když mi vyrostly nové vlasy po léčbě, jen sem tam jsem si ještě dala jen přeliv ,ale tak moc mě nebaví barvit a taky nechci už chemii v ničem ,tak používám non toxic péči na vlasy a i když jsem si koupila domácí kvalitní barvu nechtělo se mi barvit a pořád jsem to odkládala a pak se rozhodla ,že už se barvit nechci ,že se těším až budu mít svoje šediny a konečně i světlejší vlasy než tmavě hnědé.Tak jsem ráda ,žě teda nemám odrosty ,ale vlasy přirozeně prokvétají .Obdivuji všechny které zvládly odrosty .Všechny jste tak krásné a je tak super ,že každá má jedinečnou barvu .Mám světlejší pruh šedivých vlasů na vrchu hlavy a to je naprosto super.Vlasy se mi vlní tak si to prostě užívám a těším se až to uplně odroste.Máte pravdu že ted ráda nosím rtěnku ,kterou jsem dřív vůbec nenosila a mám ráda barevné oblečení .At se daří a moc děkuji ,jste krásná ,vnímavá a užasná.

Hello. I know the video is 3 years old, but I really want to thank you. It is so encouraging and inspirational. You look so so stunning with the grey hair and really vivid and younger! ❤❤❤ My hair journey is quite long - from being reduced to my long blond hair as a teenager to dying it in so many colors, even for 2 years in magenta pink (which I grew out 2 years long…). I am 41 now. After pregnancy the grey/silver came more and more. Since years I am dying plant based with henna. To be honest - my hair got darker and darker and very dry. Although I think there is good plant based color, I never got the color/tone right and am spending 5 hours! Every time in the bathroom and with henna on my head. I recently thought about letting grow out the grey/salt and pepper hair. Years ago a neighbor complained about my grey roots, telling me that it looks ugly and she would dye it and so on… I honestly really don’t know why our whole society is still so anti grey hair. I feel like I am changing right now-in general there is a phase in my life, in which I am becoming more and more my true self. For a long time I thought I had to find the right hair color - the one that is perfect and looks awesome on me and so on. But now it feels like I want to see the real me again. I am curious how the grey will look and what this process will do to me. I am still hesitant about it all - especially because I got a new job with a representative position… but does it not show more sovereignty being our tru self?! I feel like this is a whole new journey. My natural hair always changed - from bright blond as a child to honey blond as a teen and later to brown hair and now comes the silver. As our bodies change, so does the hair…but we are conditioned to deny it and to hide it. Today I saw an elder woman in the city- she was standing next to me- she looked around 65-she had such beautiful grey hair in so many silver and grey tones and she wore sich beautiful coral shirt and nail polish. It looked amazing on her! I really do not know why I wrote this comment and so much - maybe because if someone feels the same. I feel I still need some time to think about jumping on the silver train. But I am really curious. Greetings 🩶

All your points are valid! I've been getting more grey over the past decade. I used to dye it brown (natural color) and then for the past three years, I went for vivid colors: purple, navy, lime green and a pixie hair cut. I loved it. But then Covid hit and I couldn't get to the salon. So, over the past year, I've let the color fade and let it grown. It's now just chin length and I am embracing the faded colored into a natural grey transition color and the "new" me.
So happy I found your posts and a new sisterhood! I’m about 7 months in without dying my hair and have started getting the itch to try to blend somehow but don’t really want to. You gave me a whole new perspective on how to approach my next stage in this process. Thank you!

Thanks for the video, and you look amazing! I always knew I would stop coloring eventually, I have a cool white patch in the front on one side which is where I started going gray. My last full dye was Feb 2019, two months later when I was due I had eczema all over and couldn't color, so I decided that was it (although I did have highlights and later, lowlights). You are so right about the compliments from strangers, as well as silver sisters in the community. Interestingly, I have a new job at a different hospital and I was worried people would think it was strange...there are SO MANY women there that stopped coloring and are at various stages of growing out! What interesting times we live in.

Not had any colour on since February just before lockdown I love my silver hair .Someone said to me i love your hair your look so much younger your new hair colour suits you

Thank you. You are so right about all of these points. Even young people say they like my hair color!!! I still get mean comments from a couple of older women who really think they are fooling people by dying their hair.

I just started my journey and it's hard, but you have helped me to see past all my self issues when it comes to my grays. I am going to push through amd not dye my hair. But it is hard because i pride myself in my beautiful black hair. I will keep you posted on my results.

Every time a go out shopping someone compliments on my hair….love it. It never happened when I colored my hair. Even from men. I feel more confident and feel empowered.
I have been trying to grouw out gray gracefully for over a year, ended up messing up tryin to get regrowth less brassy and was obsessed with color, so 7/14 i got anpixie! Still have some dyed areas bc my hair super porous so any toning with developer just kept going into the natural color & that orange line kept going up.....so long story short, i NEEDED this vid! It such a test in patience which is not my strong suit!
Vanilla Bonilla hang in their I am a year into dye free hair my hair still has little of the golden brown colour my hair is platinum grey with my black it looks like I have highlights the end result of this is that remaining colour on the ends reminds me that wow what a difference as to healthy hair I have as to the dry straw hair I had
Ranjait Jaswal it def harder than thought would b bc i thought i never cared about my hair...BUT I had enough after seeing couple pics i somehow ended up in (i avoided bc my hair growing out was such a mess) and saw how orang and horrible really looked with skin! The pixie is dramatic but i can c sooo much more of natural color which giving me hope! I dont love or even like my hair right now, but it liberating not HATING it anymore! I also used manic panic on top where i still had the dyed hair (pinkish purple) so the dyed part looks a lot cooler and on purpose instead of mix of yellow/brassy mess! Using things like fenugreek, amla, sulfur from onions and garlic now too and dont have to worry bout them stripping my dyed color! All around this is waaayyy bttr already!!!! Thank u for the encouragement too bc i feel even more empowered!
Yes fenugreek does wonders I soak the seeds overnight and warm the water and rinse my hair after shampoo it leaves a soft tester and my hair is thicker I have baby fine hair keep on doing what you are doing believe ends results be will great the journey is tough stay safe🇨🇦🙏
