All bikes here looks gorgeous. When you have factory or sponsor support, you have to keep your bike looking good. But for private riders it was a different story. A constant struggle to make ends meet. Relying on start money to afford to go to next meet. Keep the bike mechanically sound left very little for cosmetics. Paint ain't fast. When the guy who raced my Manx in the sixties saw it, he said "They must have put a lot of filler on that tank." The battered chain guard is a memory of broken chain at 6th lap at 1962 Junior TT.

lol, i can relate there, i guess the paint was all about the sponsors in many ways. I still remember Ron Haslam's Pharoah Yamaha lol, it often looked a bit of a mess when it rolled out of the van 🙂 as the sponsors got bigger the paint got better 🙂

That was really interesting, thanks. Very narrow front tyres on very heavy adv bikes scare me. Whatever arguments exist for their safety are irrelevant to me. I did subscribe to your channel. But, when I was taken back to the start of the vid twice, after skipping over-long, irrelevant ads, I changed my mind. Safe riding

sorry mate, unfortunately, that is a problem that youtube has created at the minute, it isnt my channel, but im sorry its happened, it is becoming a bigger problem, especially with longer content. It may be in time i have to change the way the channel funds itself, but as with many, for now, i am stuck with the way youtube keeps messing things up. to be clear, i dont choose or have any influence over the ads, they arent sponsorships as i have never accepted any sponsorship. hope you will reconsider and join us again, there are a great bunch of subs and i do my best, i am only 1 bloke who loves bikes

@@barebonesmc I apologise to you. I assumed that the input for duration and inconvenience re ads was the choice of the individual, not wholly due to damned YT. I really am sick of their vile, irrelevant, insulting and, at times, politically controversial adverts. I really think a new platform is needed for honest contributors like yourself. The only people that really flourish on YT are cynical people with the same mindset as those Yankee jokers. I will, of course, subscribe again to your channel. I can't, however, promise to see your vids to the end due to the YT mafiosi. They're days are numbered!

This is a superb, historically important video. It is mind blowing what a collection of famous bikes ended up in the hands of club members and lovingly preserved. I am headed to your website to send some business your way in gratitude for your efforts in keeping this history alive. Many thanks.

Love the channel. It’s the best. One request; don’t know how many others will support it: can we have more pics of the bikes, and less footage from the seat. Subjectively the balance feels 30:70 at present. I would prefer closer to 60:40. Then you would have created the perfect biking channel. Thank you for all the hard work. I’ve put the comment in this video because it’s the latest - I appreciate it doesn’t follow the pattern I’ve described at all… :)

answer a question if you can, is it possible for a 360 degree v-twin and a 270 degree v-twin both use the exact same cams, i've been told yes but that seems so wrong but also seems kinda right at the same time, i'm so confused.....

sounds completely wrong, but to be sure i would have to draw a lot of diagrams and it would I imagine be a very difficult one to understand without looking at a 3d rotation, and thats beyond me. it isnt something i have ever heard of, but if anyone would know, the guys on the NRE (Nourish Racing Engines) facebook page would be the people to ask 🙂

I started seeing bikes in the late 60's(born in 1962) but I remember bikes like the Honda 750four as my parents were young & their friends rode these bikes. I didn't grow up riding or following a bike circuit but the Honda 750 in this resonates with me as a "Bike" more than most but that's due to my age. What I'm learning here is the rich history of bikes that we didn't have in the USA. I'm sure we've got one but I'm seeing yours now & it is rich..... call me old-fashioned but I really don't like water cooled bikes, I know what they do & the boost in power but it's one more worry if you ask me? I lost a 1986 300ZX car that slightly overheated but managed to warp the head blowing white smoke out the pipes. It happens fast too, since that loss I've hated aluminum heads but I never let it happen again.... lol, thanks for the history lesson. peace

just been talking to someone who has done an off road test on an old Africa Twin and the new one, almost twice the capacity, twice the power, more than 4 times the price (depending on condition) and less than 0.2 seconds difference from a rolling start over a 1/4 mile dirt road 🙂 it just says the same as i said here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vE0bFK-ot5I.html after i picked up the Pegaso I have, different bikes but the same conclusions
@diggy-d8w
@diggy-d8w 5 месяцев назад
IDKnow much about the Africa Twin bikes but for my intent on a bike they're too heavy but I get what you're saying about the comparison here. Part of me would love a new bike just to know where I'm at & that everything is fresh. But I drive an old Truck(96 Chevy) that I redone the entire front end...bearings/bushings & I also put a new Chevy Crate engine(not a rebuilt) so even though she's old I trust her to take me across the USA if I so desire. That trust is the problem when you buy a used machine & I don't have the tools to do much now so I'll be looking for some bike but I do know how to evaluate the sprockets & other parts to determine the basic value to me. I'm about 2 months from a purchase so the things I learn now will help guide me. Then I'll set out to establish the same trust as I have for my P/U Truck..... Ohh, I'm going to ck out your link now.... off to it !
@barebonesmc
@barebonesmc 5 месяцев назад
@@diggy-d8w The Africa Twin is a legend (the earliest ones, the later ones got heavier) low comp engine, pretty indestructible, engines will go 200K miles if looked after. and as im sure is the case with the truck, you learn, and its easier (in my case) to trust the work ive done than what others do. worn sprockets have hooked or narrowed teeth, but wheel bearings are one of the things to check, they signify a lot 🙂

What is the difference between a 90° parallel twin and the current crop of 270° parallel twins? @ 8:20
@barebonesmc
@barebonesmc 5 месяцев назад
good question, i asked it myself and had to dig a while before i could find any info, no one else made a 90 degree twin, the difference is because of the fact a 4 stroke has 2 x 360 degree rotations in one cycle so, with a 90 degree engine, Cylinder 1 fires, then 90 crank degrees later cylinder 2 fires, then 630 crank degrees later cylinder 1 fires again whereas with a 270 degree crank, Cylinder 1 fires, then 270 crank degrees later cylinder 2 fires, then 450 crank degrees later cylinder 1 fires again. I hope that makes sense. if it was a 2 stroke they would be exactly the same, and with 4 strokes, a 270 degree can be re phased to make it a 90 degree firing order, but there is a significant difference in a 4 stroke engine
@MrStr8den
@MrStr8den 5 месяцев назад
@@barebonesmc Thank you for explaining this so well - I had to read that and visualise it several times! So in layman terms the 90° gives two firing strokes in quick succession... I am trying not to fry my brain here, but if the 90° PT was to fire on number one and "if" (big 'if!') 90° later cylinder no.2 were to be on it's exhaust stroke, would that then make it a 270° PT??
@barebonesmc
@barebonesmc 5 месяцев назад
@@MrStr8den lol, thats fried my head lol, but yes, thats right, i think 🙂 to be sure i would have to draw about 16 diagrams though 🙂 oh how i wish i could do 3d animation 🙂

Weslake. Now _that_ is a name I haven't heard in a *long* time. So long that I can't remember to what it was associated with. Some reason I want to think it had something to do with land speed records or drag racing. Weslake prepared heads. As far as the bike with the flywheel I am hard pressed to not say that is my favorite one out of all of them. That is just an astonishingly great looking bike with some proper old school design and engineering that was crafted by men who knew how to do it right. How in the hell did you pick up all this knowledge about so many different bikes?😮👍🏻 Yep. You doing voiceover is the way to go mate on these videos. It's like a guided tour through a fine museum by a passionate expert on the subject. I'm sure some things you might have a bit off rarely but who doesn't miss the apex occasionally on a road you aren't absolutely familiar with. Keep doing these visits and like you I go to the races I typically am in the lot checking things out while the race is on most of the time.😁

certainly here it was gas flowing the heads that was what I knew him for, One of my A7's was a clubman and although it hadnt been converted to 4 valve it had been gas flowed by him, he was a legend. there were too many great bikes to say 1 was the best, and in part i guess it was the guy with the Weslake I felt more of a connection with. as to how, im never frightened to ask questions and i try and listen hard lol, im sure the reason i forget so much is that the filing cabinets in my brain are just too full nowadays lol, and yes, i make mistakes (some of these pics are actually from Cadwell and I didnt realise lol) but I hold my hands up when i do 🙂have a great day mate, talk soon

Bianchi is pronounced Be-an-kee pronouncing the chi as chee maybe a Spanish version but as the company was Italian it is the former, they made some interesting race bikes and was a name to conjure with they even made a supercharged 4 cylinder in 1939 to compete with the legendary Rondine engine but the war came along and that was lost to time. The Kawasaki racer with the 85 plate was a 250cc A1 Samurai trying to be its factory racing A1R brother the engines were very similar with both featuring disc valve induction at both ends of the crankshaft which facilitated mounting the carbs on the sides hence making it a tad wider then conventional piston ported induction two strokes.
