@@vinny-zebu I do. Morbid Angel sounds quite different from Obituary, but there's no reason to call one "fast demonic death metal" and the other "hellhammerish groove death metal"
@@dr.juerdotitsgo5119 I divide metal into 2 big subgenres first: What i like and what i don't like. Then there's two more: "Fast" and "Not that fast", and then two final ones. "Uplifting/energetic" and "sad." The end.
Not so sure I would consider Florida, Sweden, or Satanic Death Metal different subgenres. They're scenes, or movements for sure. But I don't know enough to be completely certain. Great video, regardless
Florida was just its own Death Metal scene back in the day. Swedish Death had the same thing going that I'd say just adds a more melodic approach on top. Satanic is the flavor text :P
I would agree, but I wasn't looking at the screen when Dismember came up, and I instantly knew what scene it was - and I've never listened to Dismember before. The bands in that scene have a very distinct sound that really separates them from other death metal scenes (the buzzsaw sound), that you could conceivably class them as their own genre.
Okay, so after a little consideration, I've decided to agree with the statement that Swedish Death Metal is distinct enough to make it its own subgenre, different from Florida/Old School/American, whatever. This, however, makes me think of a question: if a band from outside of Sweden starts playing in the same style as Entombed, Dismember, would they be Swedish Death, or would it be more accurate to call them Swedish-inspired?
So happy to see Fear Factory on this one. “Soul of a New Machine” is such a brutal album, so many crushers on there, so unique and ahead of its time 🤘🤘
@@Djare915If fear factory continued with the industrial death metal/grindcore sound they would be one of my favorite bands, so sad that it only lasted 1 album before they went the groove/nu direction
@@mali_pleonazmicpretty sure if there's a Pantera riff sounding like this somewhere, they borrowed it from Suffocation. Not a secret that Anselmo was a big Suffo fan.
Deathcore was the gateway genre for me with bands like Suicide Silence and Job For A Cowboy who eventually got me into OSDM bands like Death and Autopsy as well as genres like Tech Death and Prog Death. Skinless got me into Brutal Death and Arsis, Dark Tranquility and Dethklok into Melo Death. Then there's Exhumed for Goregind/Deathgrind. Man what a journey these past 15 years have been with this insane extreme genre of music.
Heavy metal is not a genre. It's an umbrella term for many different genres of music. Death metal, power metal and djent are more different from each other than rock is from blues and pop.
My first concert ever was Sepultura, Sacred Reich and Napalm Death when I was 16yo. Now, tbh I can hear bands sounds more than subgenres but hey, I guess they exist 🤷🏽 good job with those riffs though 👌
I invented something I like to call "freeform industrial death metal" and play it in my spare room/studio, mainly because I hate my neighbors. Cacophonous noise with speakers at 11 on a 10-string bass tuned low enough to feel more than hear at times. Dogs half a mile away start whining when I tune up.
It’s nice to see Old School Death Metal guys showing love for Mitch Lucker era Suicide Silence. Death Metal elitists constantly shit on them despite their first two albums fitting right in with bands like Suffocation & Cattle decapitation all the while doing their own thing on both of those albums.
Too bad it was played on a 6 string in this vid, I feel like the whole point of that opening track is that it’s tuned low on a 7 string, that’s why the riff is simple
Facts suicide silence can get brutal as hell, I think it’s mostly the cultural divide that throws ppl off, like crowdkilling and ear guages n breakdowns and warped tour. I love all that shit but I think it’s what puts ppl off about deathcore, even though it can actually be rly similar to other slamming and brutal death bands
I've been recently listening to them a little more and deathcore is pretty cool actually, even if it is not my favorite genre. SS is certainly a great band and they can be heavy as hell.
Yeah that soul of a new machine was a lot different than what fear factory did after. I was kinda shocked when I first heard it. I heard it in reverse order because I got demanufacture first, then remanufacture then soul of a new machine. I had always called fear factory the terminator band because it sounded like they were just doing sound tracks for terminator movies.
Excellent! Just a little afterthought on the subgenres... Deicide - satanic but also Florida, Morbid Angel - Florida but also satanic, Cynic - progressive (and Florida), Entombed - death 'n' roll (and Sweden), In Flames - melodic (and Sweden)... most of them - old school :D
You’re really good. 🎸 That’s a good list. There’s also: •Gothic death metal: Crematory’s Transmigration album •Avant-garde death metal: Gorguts’ Obscura album •Rap death metal: Necro - Suffocated to Death by God’s Shadow
Even though I like my old school stuff I also love brutally and technicality! But to even give credit to DEATHCORE, whether one likes it or not, it's part of our culture, NIIICE! Klasse Video ma' wieder. Richtig gut, Bruder!
Deathcore even has its own sub-genres now. If it’s metal, it’s gonna have a least a good handful of sub-genres attached to it. There’s something for everyone 🤘🏼
I'm a huge Septic Flesh fan, my favorite are their first 3, especially The Ophidian Wheel! It's such a unique album; not sure how to characterize it, maybe "atmospheric melodic doom death metal".
Couple other ones, Dissonant DM (such as gorguts, artificial brain, ulcerate), Caverndeath (incantation, disma, cavurn), and as some would call “ultra” brutal death metal (brodequin, enmity, mindly rotten) Cool video
Terrific! Always enjoy watching you play. Actually, these songs bring back alot of good memories for me. Your playing and replication of various metal tones are flawless! Thanks, Suffocater.😺
Bombastic!!! I only missed "Death- Crust" or Death- D-beat (Disfear, World of ruins, Distrüster,Extreme Noise Terror, Fear Connection, Phantom corporation etc.) ...
Furor Incarnatus on there prooves that you're a man of culture ^^ Those vids are not only really entertaining, they're also great to show to someone who has no clue where the differences are, great job as always! _(I'll never get the aux access back)_
I was hoping to see "Death Crust" or "Crust Death Metal", death metal mixed with crust punk, d-beat, but great video nonetheless! That genre is hella under appreciated! Bands I recommend: Putrefaction, Dishönor, Noncturnal Scum, Manger Cadavre?, and Collapsed. There's this one RU-vid channel called Gore Grinder that shares that type of music. I suggest checking em out!
