20 Fighting Game Characters Based On or influenced by Real Life People. Ranging From Mortal Kombat to Tekken and even old Fighting games such World Heroes, Fatal Fury and Virtua Fighter.
A few more to the list; Hon-Fu of Fatal Fury 3: Jackie Chan King of AOF and KOF: Cynthia Rothrock (from Raging Thunder) Robert of AOF and KOF: Steven Seagal Chin Gentsai of KOF: Beggar Su (Drunken Master 1) Cody of SFA3 and FF: Michael Pare (Streets of Fire) Balrog (Bison) of SFII: Mike Tyson Bonus: Mortal Kombat was going to be a Van Damme fighting game but there was a mix up in the rights and the idea was dropped.
I thought Johnny Cage was the main character at first MK, that’s why Van Dam was originally was supposed to be the title franchise instead of Mortal Kombat
You missed a chance to show Van Damme doing the splits-nut punch in Bloodsport side by side with Johnny Cage doing the same move. From what I've heard, Ed Boon and John Tobias were more or less inspired to make MK from a mix of the stories of Enter the Dragon and Bloodsport.
Ryu from SF is based off of Choi Bae Dal (founder of Kyokenshun Kai Karate, 1960 NY Times Toughest Man of the Year). Watch Fighter in the Wind. Drifting vagabond karate warrior, tattered uniform, only lives to train and fight (ONLY those 2 things), sleeps outside, and when not fighting, casually climbing mountains to train on top of them. The only difference is Ryu's hair is short where Bae Dal's is long and wild
Yujiro Hanma Kyokushin Karate is the actual name of the style. He's more known as Mas Oyama. Ryu gets thectraining in isolation bit from him but i believe his appearance is based off of Kyokushin fighter Kyoshi Sueno iirc.
Yujiro Hanma wow... I practice Kyokushin and I’ve been playing Ryu in any Street Fighter game I could get my hands on, and only when I’m reading this do I see that now.
Well, World Heroes has a lot of characters based on real people Hanzo and Fuuma - Hanzo Hattori and Kotaro Fuuma Janne D'Arc- Joan of Arc Kim Dragon - Obviously Bruce Lee Ryofu - Lu Bu (a badass Chinese warrior from the past) Captain Kidd - William Kidd (an aristocrat who became a pirate) J. Carn - Genghis Khan Johnny Maximum - Joe Montana Ryoko - Ryoko Tani (real life judoka) Shura - Nai Khanom Tom (Muay Thai legend) Erick - Erik the Red (a viking) Rasputin - Grigory Rasputin (a Russian mystic) The other characters who weren't mentioned (Brocken, Mudman, Jack, Muscle Power, Neo Geegus, Neo Dio) were either already mentioned in the video or weren't based on real people

Galford from Samurai Shodown is based off Michael Dudikoff from American Ninja movies. And sticking to Neo Geo fighting games, Takuma aka Mr. Karate is based on Sonny Chiba.
#21 Steven Seagal (Douglas Anderson - "Kensei") - Anderson looks exactly like Seagal, minus the ponytail. Has the same storyarc as every Seagal character (Ex special forces, CiA or whatever) and Anderson even has the exact same clothes as Seagal in "Glimmer Man".
@@ricardo_alemanes That's total nonsense. Robert Garcia only has the pony tail, that's all. Douglas Anderson has the same generic Seagal character name like in any of his movies. Mason Storm, John Hatcher, Jack Cole. Yeah. Douglas Anderson fits right in. He works for the government as an agent, like Segal in most of his movies. Most of his characters were CIA or DEA agents. Anderson does the same fighting moves like Seagal, has the exact same clothes Seagal wears in "Glimmer Man" and the only thing he misses is the ponytail. He even does the same gestures like Seagal. Andersons hobby "Looking good", from the Kensei Manual. A nod to Seagals narcissism and the arrogance of the characters he played. Also from the manual, Anderson likes Japan. Seagal had an Aikido Dojo on Japan and lived there between 1973 and 1988. Robert Garcia is not even close. Have you ever seen Seagal do some high karate kicks? Me neither. You should check out some clips from "Glimmer Man" and you would understand.
Big Bear looks more like Bam Bam Bigelow than Vader, especially the costume with no mask & Bass looks more like a cross between Hukl Hogan & Macho Man Randy Savage to me & Tusk also looks a lot like He-Man with the blonde hair.
Bryan may look like the guy from blade runner bur cmon his furious fighting style which includes a form of kickboxing is definitely a tribute to Gary Daniels who's did an Amazing job of playing Bryan in the tekken movie in my opinion he was the only actor that looked fought and acted like his character!!! So yeah don't ruin that people Gary Daniels IS Bryan fury!!!!
not really based on real life people, only a handful were. most were characters that people portrayed. balrog should have been there because he was based on a real life person Tyson. hence his original name m.bison. and I know there are others that just comes to mind
Fucking Mortal Kombat pisses me off man. Johnny Cage was the shit in MK1. No stupid tattoo on his chest, he was actually a ladies man, opposed to being that fucking loser that throws out cheesy one-liners. Even his outfit was better in MK1 then it was in any other game. But I think we all know how woke the developers are so they just had to make a fool out of him. Can't have a masculine guy being a hero in modern Mortal Kombat games, or the woke Twitter crowd will get mad.
