My favorite thing about the description of gentleman's knives is that they really are the perfect pocket knife for anyone and everyone. Nobody and I mean literally nobody, has a daily need of a hard use pocket knife. So yeah, a gentleman's knife is all anyone should EDC.
Many fine knives, for me a gent knife is an unassuming two handed opener with engraved bolster and exotic scales everybody sees when opening it. A flick on opening seems to come across as an attempt of mugging or alleyway knife fight to me. I just might be too old fashioned. A lot of these knives are wonderful pieces of craftsmanship 👍
Yeah think we are far away from a gent knife being a two hand opener especially with all the amazing easy deployed knives with amazing materials even in small compact knives
All personal opinion here to but I would also add for old knives some classics such as the Mercator K55K, case peanut, swell center jack, Copperhead, teardrop jack, barlow and or Russlock.
@@NeevesKnives Took some searching but looks like it's only on the Real Steel official site. The FatCarbon looks insane. If the JE Made Clip Slip isn't available to distributors by the time Blade Show ends, the Dark Matter Gold handle is definitely getting on the short list. Good looking out!
The closest thing I've got to a gent knife is the Spyderco Pattada. I thought my Chaparral was gentlemanly until I handed it to a coworker who remarked that it looked like a gang weapon. He's obviously not from the tough side of town. Great video, and fine collection!
For me at this moment it is Metamorph G5 .. slim profile, slicey, front flipper with good action on needle bearings, as deep carry as possible, good looking, 14c28n with Aluminum or S35VN with titanium ... not much negative I can think of ... or compact version .. I`m looking for some slip joint when I travel to less knife friendly countries in EU ... considering Luna
I love the metamorph, it's a great one for sure, wish I still had one almost got the mini in micarta I think it looks great and I already know itsa greatblade
Great knives all around, I know what you mean when you say gent carry is different for most people, i have a few older knives with slips for real special occasions vs what i would carry for just a family gathering. I have carried even a QSP parrot in g10 for a simplistic knife for some occasions. Depending where i'm going can determin what I carry also. Love all the knives and a great vid. Medford plus Rockstead = ready for any occasion. Keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Absolutely! There's occasions I dress up to hangout with family and friends where I want something nice and impressive not necessarily small, also not something huge
Imo, gent EDC knife should be of smaller blade (about 3 inch max), simple, beautiful, good quality and preferably slip joint. Case and Victorinox alox are perfect examples of EDC gent knives. Tho, some of these are also good examples. Like that RS Luna... it's a beaut.
Great, great selection of gentleman's EDC picks Neeves, really enjoyed this one a lot. I was completely unaware of most of these knives before watching this video, thank you. Nice to see the Kitefin made the list. I have the black and white spiral pattern handle Kitefin, and that knife is so ultra light yet strong, with a really nice blade. And it's the perfect knife if you're looking for a knife for a woman. I also have the Civivi Pintail Flipper in rosewood and Damascus, and I have yet to discover a more beautiful 3" folder. It looks and feels like a custom knife...for 84 bucks. I think it's the most perfect 3" flipper available, I really do. Magnificent flipping action too, the Pintail's fidget factor is Zippo lighter level satisfying.
I’ve checked Amazon for a few of these, and clearly I am not a gentleman. 🤣 I draw the line at over $100 for a pocketknife. The HIGO starts at $1,250 up. 😳 and I’d love one.
Check out my best budget knives in the world, or one of my budget knife videos I've got plenty, if you want the best bang for your buck with high end materials go with twosun, if you want the best bang for your buck period go civivi, qsp, kubey, cjrb, kizer
@@Erin-Thor not usually they might have a couple Decent models but for the same $ you can get far better quality and materials, for the same price the charge for 8cr you can get d2 or 14c28n or other better steels, in some cases way better
Hey Jared, love your videos and your attention to detail. I have a question…So I live in the Monterey Bay Area and really love Rays designs but I’m not a fan of the liner lock, I prefer a frame lock. So I’m wondering if you could recommend something for me. Has to be titanium and a medium size knife. I work in health care so I like to be discreet. And I like a top tear steel as much as the next guy but I think esthetics and a decent price takes lead in that area. However I have been known to spend ridiculous amounts on knives so, maybe include some of the high end stuff too😂
I put a link for you that's a great option that sounds like what you want, you can also search the WE Highfin when you click link that is another great one
Thanks brotha! I been looking at the Peña Barlow front flip in black and natural g10. I just purchased the ameight flix 2 and I love it but it’s just too big and the clip is really tight. Having a milled titanium clip is a must. I live wore clips on a Spyderco lw but I want my edc to be badass and classy at the same time because I don’t really do a lot of heavy cutting so when I do pull it out I want to be impressed every time. I really like quiet carry stuff too
@lastone1838 yeah the Pena are really nice as well, anything from Reate or WE knife co is going to be amazing, pretty sure The link I sent has some Pena on sale
any gent knive needs open with one hand, have clips or fancy handles... all knives that you show still being tactical, but with better materials, if you want an simply example of a real gentleman knive wich is super cheap... victorinox excelsior one blade, no ring and alox handles.
I do in my other videos I have detailed reviews and full episodes on all kinds of information these kind of videos are a quick look so you can go and watch the full reviews if your interested, but I usually have a full review available
I don't think it matters much, you can always make payments or save up, obviously if your living check to check then it's probably not the best choice which I know very well. In that case there are a ton of other options that are much more affordable
A lot of people wouldn't just like a lot of people would never buy a real Japanese Katana that was make by real Japanese swordsmiths. A lot of people wouldn't buy a Porsche turbo, but they still exist and a lot of people do
Wire clips say "hard working hands on Man, need to be able to slide my knife in my pocket & put it away with 1 hand cuz my other hand has another tool in it" 😊
I think most of them were perfect, there were some that are not but office isnt the only place people carry a dress knife, it depends on the person and places they go dress up to go to, and the people that surround them
Exactly. Most of these are just better characterized as EDCs. Gent knives are mostly pen knives, maybe classic Swiss army knives, something that you would carry in your shirt pocket with a suit, or maybe on your key ring. Not something that looks like you're going camping or ready for a street fight.
Do you know where someone can pickup the Rockstead Higo belt sheath without the knife by chance? It looks real classy and my budget isn’t ready to purchase another Rockstead
I will never buy a liner lock or frame lock style knife. Seeing you cut into your nail here and all the cuts on knife reviewers thumbs makes me wonder why any knife maker would be using locks that require you to put your finger in the danger zone while pushing the blade towards you thumb 💀. Good video though as always !
Well most knife collectors and enthusiasts like all different kinds of locks and action, people like framelocks because of the connection and the involvement they have with the action. Most people don't get cut closing there knife
Benchmade Osborne 940 is that knife and 20 ares is old and you didnt mencion . Cos Savivi and all thow kniwe jou got for free . Sebenza mini is gret knife and much more.
The lock on the Keiser is right handed only this is why you are a bad reviewer if you were left handed half of these knives would be ruined in my reviews
Out of all of those I think the Feist and Yorkie best defines a gent's knife. I think a gent's folder should be a modern replacement for a traditional pen knife or stockman and as such should not be too big. The whole idea about a gent's knife is that it doesn't scare the sheeple when you take it out at a fancy cafe to cut a muffin in half. The Nell Knives, and Rockstead are stunners. They're a bit big for a gent's knife but they look so damn good that I don't think people are going to be freaked out by them. They'll probably ask you if they can hold it.
To say here (undeniably with very convincing ability) that a knife's particularity and strengh is that it is extremely usefulll... is frankly ridiculous. It's already difficult enough to justify why it makes sens to be a knife goer (ok ok yes, it alone makes this knife industry possible), there is no need to thus suggest the possibleb uselessness of knifes please. It might wake me up.
I'm about 5 minutes in and I agree with fsdesignify; not a single knife shown qualifies. They're all too big, too heavy and have pocket clips. A Gentleman's Knife needs to be sub 3oz with a blade under 3" and preferably under 2oz and 2.75" and as functional with or without a pocket clip. None should be longer than a 3 finger knife and no choils need apply. Something like the CRK Mnandi. My Go To is a CRKT Ripple2 (blue). They should look more like jewelry than tool. Most Case and GEC slip joints would qualify. If it would show when carried in a tux, its not a Gent's Knife. What I'm seeing are Office Carry. Smallish knives that are unlikely to offend any of the office woketards.
I think a gent carry depends on the GENT, last one I carried as a Gent was the Tuya Envy2, but everyone's definition will differ depending on your life styles and occasions you go to and people your around
@@NeevesKnives I have to respectfully disagree. The reason we can hold conversation is because we all agree on the meaning of words. Example: "conversation". That means talking, not fighting, arguing, debating...just talking, back and forth. Example on the other side: Sheepsfoot vs Wharencliffe. Even knife folk can't quite agree and I see reviewer after reviewer stumble or whiffle over this blade shape. I define "gents" the way its been defined and accepted for the past several hundred years. Just because someone now wears jeans to a formal event doesn't change the history. Virtually invisible and completely inoffensive goes a long way to describing a "gent" knife. Trust me, I live in Ca., the bar for inoffensive is really, REALLY LOW here. Even so, my Ripple2 never raised an eyebrow when offered to help a couple open wedding gifts.
@@lenzielenski3276 I see what your saying, I guess I think of it as a knife you carry when dressing up, and I agree we do have to agree on the meaning of words, I guess I'm wrong in this discussion, I do think that thrres still the Grey area where something I might consider a gent carry you might not, but where does it end. I get that and that Grey area would still exist in a way that both parties can see why it could be called a gent carry, so I stand corrected thanks Len
A gentleman's knife should be able to roll out slowly. Flicking it open might scare the office Karens. It should not be big or heavy. You don't need a bulge in your pants to remind people that you are carrying a knife. The knife shape should not be aggressive. When people look at it, it's not a knife. It's a "box cutter." The clip should be deep carry, non-reflective, and milled in the shape that associates with the clip on a pen or sharpie.
