ikr it was so fucking scary like bella had her mouth open 24/7 and edward moves his head slowly and creeply while talking in a very horror movie vibes whisper voice
Its amazing to think how the 70's and 80's didnt have the same capabilities in production as todays movies; but in the same breath, still managed to put out some of the best horror to ever hit the silver screen.
A lot these movies suck. You’re next and Goodnight mommy I love. But this list does not have the original Halloween. It wasn’t for Halloween we wouldn’t have Jason, Freddy, or many other of the slashers we love. Halloween pretty much started the slasher genre
1973 - The Exorcist 1974 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1978 - Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1979 - Alien 1980 - The Shining 1982 - The Thing 1985 - Return of the Living Dead 1990 - Jacob's Ladder 1996 - Scream ( Wes Craven ) 1999 - The Blair Witch Project 1999 - Audition 2005 - The Descent 2007 - The Mist ( Stephen King ) 2007 - Paranormal Activity 2008 - Martyrs 2008 - Let the Right One In 2011 - You're Next 2014 - Goodnight Mommy 2015 - The Witch 2017 - Get Out
The Bye Bye man scared the shit out of me. The horrible acting, the shitty CGI, and terrible plot was all just so terrifying. Like, how could anybody think that was good enough to release? It makes me scared for the future of horror movies. But in all seriousness, the movie "The Silenced" was absolutely amazing in my opinion. It was just really different from a lot of the other horror movies I've seen but it was still thrilling nonetheless.
I agree with Psycho. The Silence of The Lambs was a poor adaptation, which would have been much better if the dialogue had not been drowned out by the overbearing music, and if the narrative had stuck to the genius plot of the novel - although, I must admit, the escape scene in the movie was terrifying perfection.
@@DAVEFLOYDFAN I respect your opinion but disagree highly. Silence of the lambs is one of the best movies ever. Especially because of the acting of Anthony Hopkins and Jodie foster. I disliked julianne Moore as clarice but she did a great job. I just dont like it when they replace very interesting characters with other actors or actresses. But still Anthony Hopkins is amazing in all those movies
Mariam Sarkawi i love both the films but didn’t make sense that the whole world would b infected virus wasn’t airborne it spread by bites or in the case of cabbie when he got blood in his eye could understand infection being spread across England cos it was practically instantaneous so how could it spread across the world its impossible other than that great films plus unlike every zombie film it shows u how they got infected in the first place still waiting for twd to explain how the zombie virus started who was patient zero
unless i'm mistaken, horror films are supposed to be scary, evil dead is 90% comedy. i'd take Scream off this list for the same reason but at least that's 50/50 horror/comedy.
yall are confusing me but in my opinion - original evil dead was horseshit. horrible movie. newer evil dead (2013 one, if there's any other remakes I haven't seen them)- way better. still not a strong story or anything in my opinion. also acting was iffy here and there. the gore was done super well though in my opinion and was visually creepy af in some scenes. would overall recommend the newer one if you're into gore.
Psycho, The Sixth Sense, A Quiet Place, Aliens, Halloween, The Silence of the Lambs...I know many people think of some of these as just psychological thrillers, but these should all be here IMO.
Return of the living dead is actually genuinely scary, especially for a first time watch, there are comedy "elements" but its largely grotesque, tar man is a very original creation and stays in your mind for a long time, the intro to the film will always be one of my favs, its just done so brilliantly! ... don't however watch any of the follow on films, as they are utterly shit. scream? erm ... i pass on defending that lol
I think everyone should realise that they are rating these not by sheer scariness alone, but by character development, cinematography and amazing stories. They are rating these by the actual thought and effort put in to the film. Impressive films, not just hiding behind a pillow impressive.
alana loois Then movies like The Ring and The Bababook definitely should've been on there. The Ring proves that horror movies can be smart and have intricate story lines and The Babadook presented the best "descent into madness" story film has seen in years. Saw should've also gotten a mention.
alana loois I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANY OF THAT IF IT DOESNT SCARE ME THEN ITS A SHITTY HORROR MOVIE STOP BEING PRETENTIOUS NOBODY FUCKING CARES ABOUT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND ALL THAT BULLSHIT I WANT TO BE SCARED NOT WATCH AN OSCAR WINNING FILM
/nickuploads/ Sheesh mate, calm down. Did you know that there's this magical place called the internet? It's a place where people state their opinions and couldn't care less if others don't like them. Having a different opinion is fine but cut the caps. You sound like a friggin degenerate.
Child's Play Sinister Halloween Friday the 13th A Nightmare on Elm Street Carrie Hellraiser Evil Dead (Original) Maniac (1981) The Omen The Silence of the Lambs Wishmaster Poltergeist Thir13en Ghosts The Stepfather (1987) How can you not have any of them on the list? You are insane.
Dude it's the one that started off the series which is why it is held in such high regards and personally I would say the 3rd was the best but still the original is just golden for so many other reasons other than how scary it was or realistic or well the plot but without it the Friday the thirteenth movies wouldn't have kicked off the way they did.
Literally every other fucking comment is asking why the movies they personally find scary aren't on here. Yeah, i agree this list is missing a few great classics. Even if they included them in this top 20 you guys would bitch about how they excluded newer horror films, or find something else to moan about. This list was actually decent. Simmer down.
David Cole - Thank-you, mate; finally a calm, thoughtful comment on the aforementioned video! Every other person on this thread is getting so hysterical and belligerent over a bloody list of films!! As my Nana used to say, "opinions are like arseholes - everyone has one, But it doesn't mean I want you to share it with me..." Hehehe; good old Nana! 😏
Silence of the lamb, Rosemarin baby or Psycho, as examples, is not somebody opinion, and they not about "scariness" alone, but exactly about "plot, originality, characters". What why its all-time classics, you know ? And its looks like author of this list is try so hard to be original and, in your terms, "show his arsehole to everebody".
I'd say it's because the title says "the greatest horror movies", which these are objectively not. Plus I think horror fans are more passionate about their favourite genre (and movies) than any other movie genre fans, in my experience. Most of the movies in this list were cookie-cutter horror movies , were not in any way original, and are frankly quite boring and not terrifying in any way. The characters are one-dimensional nitwits that try too hard to be identifiable with the audience members. One exception is the Return of the Living Dead because it has that 80s charm to it.
Señor MeinKrafter2020 Yeah you have a point! The title should not say “Greatest of all time” its mostly just opinions. Even if they were ranked on every single detail, people would still have different opinions on what ranks are more important etc.
It really lost its fear factor in the end tho. Like the boogeyman guy up close didn't really do it for me, it was his intentions and way of picking families off that was terrifying. The climax was good, the drop off was terrible.
No nightmare on elm street No Friday the 13th No Halloween No dead trilogy No Suspiria No cannibal holocaust (the first found footage film not blair witch) No demons No event horizon Seriously guys what kind of crapy list have you made to leave ^ Classics out poor form.
Troy Annells Cannible Holocaust is Famous for Its realistic gore and blood. Till this day, it's never considered a Classic nor is it better than Blair Witch. Even All Critics shut it down immediatly for its boring slow footage shoots. Blair Witch is considered a Classic by Many, but in truth it doesn't really hold up after the disaster of Book of Shadows. Blair Witch (2016) should have been its second entrance instead.
@Saint Butters, @BMA SH, @Duddelwuddel Looper's list is crap, and you people are stupid, if not are also rather fake horror buffs who need to get off your high horses to say the least. Troy Annells is right about everything he said as well as with each film he listed, however I personally disagree about The Blair Witch Project being boring, because even though it's quite slow-burning, it's far from being boring. The atmosphere is superbly eerie. Cannibal Holocaust & Event Horizon are total cult-classics and will always be a couple of my all-time favorites; not to mention according to many (and not just myself) are also two of the greatest horror films ever made, so stop hating.
The author of The Exorcist book, hates that the movie is thought of as a horror movie. he says it is a drama about the struggle between good and evil and about human courage.
In all fairness, the movie explores that, too. Yes, the film has scares but the struggle between faith and evil is heavily displayed through Father Karras throughout the film.
Saw,Psycho,Halloween,The Exorcist. They did something brand new. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre too. Those are best horrors of all time. 1922 Nosferatu and 1931 Dracula one of oldest
Good call on the first Saw. I agree with Nosferatu, but the age of the film gets lost on even the most esteemed reviews and it is likely due to the lack of voice. We anticipate emotion from both voice and facial reactions rarely one or the other. Christopher Lee was the first terrifying Dracula that I saw so I would really go with 1958 Horror of Dracula, but Horror films do not have to be terrifying to be great as we oft forget.
The not so Smooth criminal 4 People with depression are hiding themselfs from the cruel world and flee into a world of happines a smiling baby sun. Later they kill themselfs by opening ther own tummys with a knife but in ther happy sappy world death doesnt excist so they dont die and they are forced to stay in this world for eternety and slowly loosing ther sanaty thats ehy they cant talk like normal people anymore... see everythings horrofic if you make it
Of course you would hate it. It has a story line you have to pay attention to. The evil is subtle and actually realistic. The people are real and it can actually happen. Evil Dead is goofy (I mean when in real life are you going to actually have Zombie Demon activity as much as we would all love that? There is no way anyone could be scared by that. Blair Witch is nausea inducing imo but it is scary in that we have all been in that situation where we think something is out there in the woods.
justjcs soto the first Paranormal activity was done so well. And at that time, there was nothing out there like it except maybe Blair witch. It scared the crap out of many people. Body horror doesn't scare me, paranormal stuff does.
No mention of The Phantom of the Opera from 1925. It was quite horrifying for the time and still is somewhat horrifying today, all thanks to lead actor Lon Chaney. The promotional material was not allowed to show Chaney's face in the film in order to save the fear of seeing the Phantom's face. It lived up to its hype, as many audience members seeing it fainted at the sight of Chaney's face.
My favourite horror movies in order * Nosferatu (1922) * Dracula (1931) * Psycho (1960) * Night of the Living Dead (1968) * The Exorcist (1973) * The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) * Jaws (1975) * Carrie (1976) * Suspiria (1977) * Eraserhead (1978) * Dawn of the Dead (1978) * Alien (1979) * The Shining (1980) * An American Werewolf in London (1981) * The Evil Dead (1981) * Evil Dead II (1987) * Silence of the Lambs (1991) * The Sixth Sense (1999) * American Psycho (2000) * 28 Days Later (2002) * A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) * Shaun of the Dead (2004) * [REC] (2007) * Let the Right One In (2008) * Train to Busan (2016) * The Lighthouse (2019)
@@nacho007 well American Psycho is a slasher film (like Halloween and Psycho) Alien is “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” in space, which Ridley Scott got the inspiration from. The Lighthouse is horror because the character slip into madness like the Shining.
The first Nightmare on Elm Street scared the hell out of me. I was 12 when I saw it, but I still think it's one of the best horror films of all time. How can anyone take this list seriously when it's missing Halloween Nightmare on Elm Street Friday the 13th
where the fuck was: saw A nightmare on elm st wrong turn friday the 13th jeepers creepers jaws suspiria the ring poltergeist halloween the silence of the lambs wolf creek just to name a bit
yo so how this works is, make a video with a title like GREATEST HORROR MOVIES EVER and then make sure you leave out some of the obvious ones so people can complain and make comments. more comments, likes dislikes gets the vid more attention, more attention = more views. that and subjective taste, i dont care for most movies mentioned in this list
No nightmare on elm street, no Friday the thirteenth, no Halloween are you even paying attention or are you guys just trying to hard to be abstract that you don't want to admit you love the top three ever to be made. I'm amazed you even put night of the living dead but then again it was the original and hipsters find that to be cool. Get your shit together looper
Agreed. The original F13 film was average at best. People put it on lists because of the pop culture impact it had, rather than the merits of the film itself.
for everybody who thinks this list sucks, (I don't agree with it either) just know that its just this guys opinion. You don't HAVE to agree. He just has a much different taste than most of us.
"this guy" no, Looper is a group of people.. mostly millennial's that haven't watched the movies themselves but can google well. just listen to the narrative that reads like word for word critic reviews. nothing personal about it, just let google and mimic reviews.. only reason i'm here is for the laughs.
Ava LaClair The good movies in this list: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Scream The Descent The Mist Paranormal Activity You're Next Goodnight Mommy and Get Out The rest are trash or i haven't watched them so stfu u piece of shit
@TruthMaster2020 That's the only Friday I like. Now that I've rewatched a lot of movies, my list would be: 1. Halloween 2. The Shining 3. A Nightmare On Elm Street 4. Psycho 5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 6. Scream 7. Carrie 8. F13th Final Chapter 9. Alien 10. The Exorcist
TruthMaster2020 Haha now I'm replacing Scream with Misery, I had read the book but I just finished watching the movie and it's just amazing. I'll have to rewatch the F13th movies, but I think I didn't really like the 1st one.
Scuse me? SCUSE ME. Did you just insinuate that Pet Sematary isn't one effective, scary-ass flick? Zelda, the bed-ridden sister, kept me up at night for years. You're fired.
The saw franchise is more of a thriller and psychological thriller, personally I wouldn't describe it as a horror as it messes with your mind more than anything
Wouldn't call Saw a horror franchise, but I agree with the others, especially A Nightmare on Elm Street. Easily one of the scariest films ever. You can't run away from your dreams.
My Top 20 Best Horror Films 1. Psycho 2.Jaws 3. The Thing 4. Halloween 5.Texas Chainsaw Massacre 6.The Shining 7. The Exorcist 8.Misery 9.Alien 10. Night of the Living Dead 11. Silence of the Lambs 12. A Nightmare on Elm Street 13. Audition 14. Don't Look Now 15. Audition 16. Rosemary's Baby 17. Carrie 18. Suspiria 19. The Babadook 20. The Conjuring
Wigless Bitch it’s the best and it completely changed the horror genre and if you don’t think it’s scary that’s fine but it’s still the most influential horror film ever and often considered one of the best movies ever
My daughter is a millenial, but she learned from a horror jedi what a good scary movie is. She recommends movies to me, and I truly value her opinion. This list is bs. I could only watch half, because it sucked so much.
For me, John Carpenter's Halloween, Psycho, The Conjuring 1 and 2, The Amityville Horror and The Woman in Black were missing from this list... Really good horror films that get in your head.
Other great horror movies for me are; Halloween A Nightmare On Elm St An American Werewolf In London La Horde Jeepers Creepers Poltergeist Stir Of Echoes The Howling Fright Night The Others The Hitcher Joy Ride Creepshow Christine Child's Play Evil Dead(trilogy) V/H/S V/H/S 2 Jaws The Fly(1986) Cabin In The Woods Tucker& Dale vs Evil There are a lot more but I'll leave at this.
Epic Burger It is a horror/comedy. An American Werewolf in London is essentially a comedy/horror as well just not campy and Scream, Evil Dead 2, 3, and Return of the Living Dead are ones also.
3 films that I think are absolute milestones and groundbreaking. Exorcist, Night of the Living Dead, and Texas chainsaw massacre, but I also have to mention Frankenstein and Dracula.
My 10 favorite horror movies of all time : 1 Home alone 2 Robocop 3 Moonwalker 4 Weekend at Bernie's 5 3 o'clock high 6 The Glimmer Man 7 Problem child 8 Bill & Ted's bogus journey 9 Some Kind of Monster 10 Alvin and the Chipmunks
Lisa Spikes it can be seen as a few friends out in the woods trying to make a documentary about a witch story and one goes insane from being out in the wilderness and kills their friends one by one
I laugh like hell during TCM that film is so funny, you just know that annoying guy in the chair (who wont shut the hell up) is gonna get it and he does lol
Adding Digging up the Marrow to the list 😃 admit (real) monsters are not really my thing, so won’t be quite at the top, but if it’s Adam Green loved Frozen (not the one for children) and really enjoyed the first Hatchet, so...
In my opinion Scream, Descent, Goodnight Mommy, Paranormal Activity, and The Mist have no business on a top 20 horror movies list. I would take American Werewolf in London over Scream, and would personally even take Cube and Nightmare on Elm Street instead of the others I mentioned. Further, how the hell aren't Rosemary's Baby, Jaws, and Halloween on this list?
"The Cave" was better than "The descent" IMHO, but an outstanding good list we got here. That comes from a guy, who doesn't like lists on YT. Good work, looper team, and thank you for reminding me on so much good cinematerial, goin' to watch a movie now, probably "The Mist"
Lets get one thing out of the way and hate me about it later , we all have different points of view on things one of them being movie films , this list is actually really good . Yea their are a lot of other scary movies much more than 20 or less and more . What I'm saying is it doesn't matter what's the best and what's the worse if you like it that's awesome ! Theirs no need to start an argument because you disagree with the choices chosen for this top list :) ❤
I think that there were two movies that should have been on this list The Conjuring and Insidious. I do agree with the placement of The Witch though. That is a really good horror flick for sure a must see for fans of the horror genre.
no sleepaway camp, child's play, the fly or american werewolf in london ??? also paranormal activity is preety much boring i ended up always checking my watch
Alex Aceves yes, but it still a great horor"comedy" movie, it is consider by many as The best werewolf movies since the wolfman, it's define the genre and has a good scary moment
Ade Lesmana those are very amazing but i dont know about all of those getting in top 20 but i do think those movies should be on the list instead of certain movies on this list
