Hades is the huge fiddle yard of the new Mckinley expansion programme. Designed to store 180 trains, its truly breath taking. Named after Greek Mythology, as the place under the earth inhabited by the spirits of the dead!
Hi. Really sorry to here that. Hope you can all get back to some sort of normality, but it will take time. Really sorry for your loss. Best wishes to you all.
Is this the same/reincarnated railway as David’s in Bournemouth? Ah! Answer seen at 9:10 - I watched the original McKinley Road, absolutely great to see you back again!
No problems David. Though I must say I’m quite addicted to your videos. I was wondering if you had run into some sort of digital resources overload issues that may have proved to be a big head ache. In my programming days we wrote a multithreaded program that when is started it used so many system resources that our mini computers melted down with the shear volume of traffic intensity. We finished up writing a starter program that allowed a more orderly start sequence to overcome the multitude of issues that we had generated with our start everything now method. We called it raicontrol, turn out to be my saviour at the time. I still have fond memories of that program.
Just simply amazing on how much track work there is ... very impressive... can’t wait to see it up and running trains .. What type of hardware is being used to hold up each level ? I see it’s part threaded rod but what type of hardware is it ?? Thanks for the updates
Jim, It is simply threaded rods bolted both sides of 6mm beech ply acting as the baseboard. We use 20mm washers to bear the load and rubber washers to reduce noise transmission. The rigidity of the baseboards comes from the two edging pieces of ply which turns the baseboards into beams. Hope that answers your question.
Hi McKinley Railway, how are works progressing? It has been fascinating following the journey and have been impressed by the level of rigor put into the planning and testing. By the way, are you aware that the forum on your website has been taken over?
Hi. Just found your amazing layout. What part of the country are you in ? And is the layout open to visitors ? Or is this not possible due to it being in your own private home. I am in the process of building my own layout in the loft and am finding it a very enjoyable challenge. I find your videos very informative and really great to watch. Keep going and well done. Regards
Hi. Thanks for your prompt reply. How do I find your latest video as I am up to where you are about to make the extra hole through the wall to link with the main lines. Thanks
Unfortunately, we had a very sad incident last summer concerning Brian our videographer. He passed away suddenly after a very short illness. We were midway through filming a further 9 videos but they were not finished when he fell ill. We have now found someone else now who can help and will be resuming the video journey where we left off. We haven't connected the layouts up yet. That is probably about 12 to 18 months away.
My Railway using TrainController was inspired by the the original McKinley Railway. Just me so I kept it simple. Can't wait to see HADES run using the software at its peak. An update HADES video would be great..?? Or has the layout faulted due to its complexity ~ What would Mr Freiwald say?? What computer are you using the run the software?? Is it TrainController GOLD V9.0 A4..?? What are the computer specs..?? Motherboard? CPU? RAM? SSD's/M.2's etc..?? How is the main data file being backed up?? Are you using SmartHand Manager?? Why aren't the locos speed profiled using the 3 block method which is more accurate..?? Would you like me to come and get it all going for you..???? Looks like you need real help than your rookie assistants which seem to be in "cloud 9" when explaining things..!!
Dear Troy, No we didn't. It forms the descending entry to Hades and was build up a couple of levels at a time in keeping with the main storage tracks. Is there anything that we can help you with?
I’m interested in the oblong helix I’d like to put a fiddle yard under my layout but it’s did bone shaped and would need to rise 12 inches in about 16ft with long rolling stock the oblong seems like the answer
