Hi, I think it felt more prone to flipping with the tarps out, as they catch the wind easily, whereas people that don't have the tarps out in strong wind don't seem to feel as buffeted. In rough waves, riding the outside corner of the tramp is like a bronco, so I tended to hold on with both hands. A bad buckle gave way one time, but I was already gripping things well enough not to get left behind. Hobie quickly replaced all our buckles with heavy duty ones for free.

I saw your video - neat windmills! Looks like you have more modern gear: Partial trampolines giving you a nice gap; different trampoline connectors and the splash guards. How cold was it there?

I have tarps and to be fare i have tried with or without and to me it makes little if not no difference at all in high winds, i tend to use them all the time now as it gives me freedom to move around everywhere on the Kayak. Hobie tandem Islands were built for this kind of use and more, just depends on you as a person on how fast you feel comfortable at, personally I love the speed on mine and purposely go out on my own as it is quicker still with one person. Clearly the Mirage drive hit something at speed, not just water. I guess the vid shows why reefing should be done earlier! The TI went just as fast with the sail almost fully reefed, with far less stress on the gear

Sure hate to see a sail flogging like that. You should keep some tension on it as you reef. Why were you holding up your mirage drive at the end?

Ive never ever heard of any of these flipping over duw to high wind. I dont think Ive ever heard of any full size sailing kayak flipping lest it was a Balogh rig. with full size amas *outriggers* itd never happen. You COULD cause structural failure, submarine the bow and entire front end, but upside down? Never heard of it. I will say hiking out on the tramp isnt something I thought the ama would support due to lack of bouyancy. Nice vid though.
