You have some good ideas there. Americans do not use hot water bottles, unless they need an enema, so giving them a cover would probably get a good laugh.

I made myself scrolls for my crochet hooks, another for knitting needles and finally one for my watercolor brushes (stop me before I hobby again,😜). Another scrap stash buster is making patchwork potholders or heat pads.

I think the most used present I've ever made and gifted would have to be a tote shopping bag. Love this ideas.....for next year now 😊

I have quite a few friends who are into board games. I sew dice trays, or other small trays for gaming bits. Or little bags to store gaming bits in.

I have made small lap quilts for different people, and some have been very very simple throws and some have been actual quilts and I have even done the embroidered square and I think those are the best gifts. With Christmas coming in a few days anything more than a patchwork lap throw is probably impossible, but these are not just for Christmas. One thing I really had fun was doing a quilt with hand quilting on the patches and I did different stitches in each patch. I love that one and I got to experiment with things I haven’t done before. I’ve also made a quilt that was basically lovely flannel on one side and linen on the other. It was slightly rectangular and had a ruffle on each short end. It was just a throw and it was light for spring and it was just really nice. It has been about 10 years and they still have it.

Bowl cozies (microwaveable) have been the biggest hit. Each year I gift the neighborhood with sewn items. I’ve had requests to make more for families!!!

I saw bowl cozies on someone’s list and I thought “who needs that?” Then later that same day I watched my daughter getting a hot plate out of the microwave and to the table. I thumped myself in the head 🙄 and I went to assess my fabric scraps. We need these in my house! It seems so obvious. Do you have a particular pattern that you like?

I really enjoyed your list of quick items to sew. The mask for sleeping is a good idea, and not just for the ladies. When we stayed at my sister in laws home she has an overhead sky light in the bedroom and my husband was more than happy to wear a face mask.

We use reusable shopping bags here in the states. The stores here in California have to charge for bags which encourages bringing our own. I have bags that are insulated for cold and frozen foods. Love the crossbody bag idea, great for carrying phone, keys and debit card and light weight.

This year I made some needle cases to go inside my Christmas cards, just a rectangle of pretty fabric and a page of felt with two needles, some pins and safety pins. (…for some non-sewers I pre threaded a white and dark needle for emergencies!). I’ve also made some nice traditional hankies with a tiny lace edging but I hand sewed them and they took ages - but I wanted them to survive being washed to death! They’re so much softer on your nose when you’re not so well :-) I used to belong to a walking group and one year I made some large waterproof bags to put muddy boots in and people loved them. For my other outdoor friends I made a large round mat, one side waterproof fabric, one side towelling, with tabs around the edge and a drawstring, so when they went swimming/sailing/canoeing etc. they could stand on it to get changed and drop all their wet gear on it and draw it up to make a waterproof bag to take all the wet stuff home. The next year I made a simple towelling hoodie/poncho so people could get dry and dressed under it, but I think they were a bit too big and bulky for everyday, but great for winter (or if you’re a bit shy!). Last year I got some food safe plastic liner and make re-usable sandwich bags and snack bags - so I feel a bit guilty that with all the reusable stuff it’s no wonder that Wilko’s went bust!

I love the hot water bottle cover! I recently had some serious back and neck issues and I found that a hot water bottle was key to helping so now I have a whole collection and one of them hasnt got a cover so I love that idea. Then i could buy a hot water bottle without a cover and make a cover and give the two together as a gift. Love it!!

This year ive made. Scrappy angel decorations for the xmas tree, miniature stocking tree decorations, pieced xmas cushion cover and some santa hats. The santa hats are great because you can use some lush xmas fabric and recycle a white fleece, baby blanket or old dressing gown for the fluffly band. They look great. Good for office gifts i think. They are festive but luxurious looking. I think handmade xmas decs are a great gift and they are a lovely reminder of friendship every year

Good morning , and how are you? You are looking wonderful, you must be feeling better and adjusting to your situation. It is hard when you are alone after being with someone for many years, the adapting to being by yourself takes a while to settling down - i was with my husband for 22 years and then not and it took me many months to get over the loneliness and orienting to live my myself. It was hard. But I can't wait to see your home all done up to your style. Well, I am so glad that you are back doing videos and I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, the coming 2024 will be much better. Take care and God Bless.😄❤

I love the color of your background. I think a faint pink tone is flattering, I used to have my entry painted a similar color. When my son was taking cooking clasees, I made him a knife roll so he could easily carry his knives. I used canvas because I wanted it to be sturdy. I have net or tulle bags to use instead of plastic bags for produce, since Covid most grocery stores no longer have bulk bins in my town. Anyway, those would be easy to make. They close with a drawstring.

American: we don’t have many shops & zero chain stores, that sell dried foods by the pound either as described. We do have an awful lot of plastics too. We do have quite a bit of people that make or buy reusable bags for the whole lot of groceries to carry them out in. On another note the belt bags were called “Fanny packs” in the 80’s. Now they are worn like crossbody bags and called the same… but I grew up in the 80’s and I always called them belt bags or fanny packs as a kid.😂 completely depending on the style…

All were such great ideas. My favorites were the wallets that hung on the belt and the cross body bags. I also liked the ear covers. My husband got me one from the golf course he works at. I just might have to go & get me a hot water bottle to put on me during those cold winter nights.

These are fabulous gift ideas! I made several over-sized hot dish holders, a decorative pirate pillow, a Harry Potter tote bag set, several zip bags, and lots of scrunchies for gifts this season. I make and gifts lots of quilts, but not usually at Christmas…too busy. You have given me so many ideas…not sure what to try next. (Oh, and I agree…bring back the light evenings. Tired of darkness!)
