do you like this as much as Bill Bailey's playing? I came to this video by the same route, and I prefer it though Bill Bailey's skill is impressive too

@@Loreman72 It's funny because I love Celtic folk, and after watching Bill play I am going to get a mandolin. Hopefully the guitar skills will translate.

I must say I like the sound of the cittern, the bouzouki and the mandola the best. It is not that the other instruments are not equally interesting, but I prefer a bright sounding string instrument the most.

Celtic and indian music spheres have had no collusion throughout the course of history, yet they seem so identical.

Octave mandolin, not a mandola. Nice instruments. Tom Kimber gets my vote, about 12 minutes in. American tune, on a mandolin with a ridiculously wide neck... 20 minutes definitely not wasted. Thanks, guys.

Wow that celtic F mandolin sounds amazing. Is is also louder than the others? I was thinking about getting a mandola to get enough volume but that mandolin sounds like it was made to keep up in jams. So no price on your website..?

Could you explain what an F Mandolin is?
@Nkforster
@Nkforster 4 года назад
Its a mandolin where the soundholes are in the shape of an F. Like a violin. Mandolins usually have F holes or a round/oval hole.
@traumaland8603
@traumaland8603 3 года назад
Just as a point of interest, in the US, F refers to the body style. F style mandolins have a scroll at the top of the body, whereas A style mandolins have the more traditional rounded shape. The F shaped holes appeared in mandolins around 100 years ago and due to the added volume and more balanced high end output they are widely favored over the more traditional round hole mandolins, at least in bluegrass circles.
