i think it’s important to also recognize that many coilover companies offer multile tiers of coilovers. a great example of this is Tein. their entry level coilovers are cheap and get the job done on the street. but they also make some incredibly good motorsports oriented coilovers like the SRCs that are much more expensive but much better quality
Ohlins Road & Track DFVs been my goal coilovers as long as i've had my car. More i watch reviews i think i'd be better off in some Fortune 500s. An upgrade i always been curious about is Hyperco's hydraulic spring perches. Never seen them used in a build but seems like a solid concept
For me on the daily driver, value end. Godspeed and maxspeedingrods t6 or t7 are best dollar for performance. Just look over them and make sure all the bolts/nuts are tight and you'll get just as many years as many $1000ish coils. Edit: I'm stating this opinion having owned 50+ cars but never one newer than 2002 other than a 2010 mazdaspeed 3 with godspeeds.
@@Davorox1 yeah I've had them on 7 different honda's and have always been impressed for the price. Just make sure the top hat nut is tightened correctly and preload is even on all 4 (usually is) and I've had great luck with them both slammed as well as just a tad low. They feel nice and seem to last better than the no names or rev9 types.
Absolutely not! How anyone could shamelessly not only support but recommend for others to use such low-end, cheaply built, poor quality suspension is beyond belief. Both Godspeed and MaxpeedingRods are terrible brands. They have poor quality control, they use low quality oils in their dampeners, leading to massive cavitation within the shocks during articulation, they use cheap seals that often aren't seated right, resulting in premature blowout. I could go on and on about it, but there is no need to. All you need to know about MaxpeedingRods is in the name. It's a nonsense Chinese market name, where they misspelled their own brand. If they couldn't even put the quality control into their name to ensure it was spelled correctly, why would you trust their craftsmanship with your safety? Suspension and tires are 2 areas of a car you should NEVER cheap out on. Not only are they the most important element for shaving down lap times, but they are also the most important for your safety.
WOW!....Did not know BC Coils are ReBadged Silvers Coilovers!....lol..... I myself have ISC Coils they lasted 7yrs before I had to rebuild the front ones!....I like the Quality & Handling of the ISC Coilovers!
I've got a 97 Del Sol and wanted some advice for what a good OEM replacement would be for dairying and having it a bit sportier and lower. I see on Martiniworks that there are only kW's and they are way out of my price range.
Hey there! Great question and we can definitely help you out. We can get anything you need even if you don’t see it on the website. Send us an email to help@martiniworks.com and we will give you some options in your budget!
Ok, so if i want oem+ springs, who does it cause they all advertise lowering springs. Also can we see a video on who is enki and how do they produce all the japanese oem wheels pls
Ive bought two different coil overs for my car and hear clucking when starting to move or turning, is this because they don't have helper springs? I can't for the life of me find where it's coming from. They're 32 way with chamber plates.
yo alex i’m still kind of a newborn on coils and stuff like that but i bought some bc racing BR coils for my 2019 accord and i’ve found they’re kind of clunky (not their fault) in the midst of me ATTEMPTING to lower my car i believe i screwed up my preload but i’ll fix that once i figure out how to lower my car correctly. it’s a divorced set up and the back i can tuck tire but need to adjust the shock too not just the spring but the front i can’t get to budge ride height wise. is there a video you could link me to for learning purposes? plz and thank you! love all your content keep it cool brotha
@MartiniWorksOfficial Can you do a review of in depth, about KYB? Why KYB is the worlds most leading brand in automotive suspension in the aftermarket? Why KYB is the best choice for oem shocks and strut replacements? Why doesn’t KYB offers monotube like u get Excel G shocks and struts, and most of the time, they don’t offer Gas-a-just monotube shocks and struts for economy vehicles, crossovers? But they offer for older vehicles, trucks, SUV’s? I wish KYB Monotube shocks and struts for all vehicles. No matter if it’s for sports vehicles, economy, or truck/suv. Or even if it’s a demand or not.
I gotta ask. I have a 2005 Mazda RX-8 Shinka Edition and I've been looking into Tein vs Raceland. I really like the warranty Raceland offers but want a similar coilover upgrade to some of the low tier/entry level modifications that will be reliable and/or at least covered and have good reviews. Do you think the Raceland set is on a similar level as some of those other sets or am I falling victim to marketing?
My rx8 that I bought with racelands installed by the previous owner, personally I feel like it ruined the driving experience. Now I'm not a coilover expert just my off hand experience. I am waiting till I have the funds to upgrade but I am not a fan of racelands on my 8. I share 2 rx8s between my dad and myself so that's where my comparison between the stock and racelands are from. Have not had the pleasure of driving one with proper coilover upgrade but hope to one day replace the racelands.
I just got Ohlins DFV for my ND Miata(yet to install), why do you never talk about those? are they overpriced for their quality in your opinion? *I've never tracked my car*
Fortune Auto is probably the minimum coilover one should buy. Everything priced under that is cheaply assembled garbage that's not made with performance in mind. Yes they're stiff. Yes they will make you car low. But you'll be bouncing down the freeway rattling your teeth out. Even my Ohlins rode rough on crappy pavement. I'm sure the aluminum top hats did not help.
also just because a brand is shilled by yourubers doesnt necessarily mean its good. case in point, BC. is it good enough for the street? probably, but no one who knows what they are doing would ever run that junk on a track car
you should make a video explaining pillow ball mounts and rubber mounts, because a lot of people new to coilovers they think driving is going to feel as oem suspension, and there is when these mounts play a key role when prioritizing performance or comfort it would help people to choose the right upper mounts according to their needs
Tbh, I think these videos spewing random facts picks up the grey areas where videos about "You want to buy this, here's what you need to know", leave out. I've been deciding on a set of Redshift BC coilovers vs KW for my own ride, and this video honestly helped in deciding what I think is right for me vs what might be somewhat overkill, since the most I do is aggressive spirited driving in the mountains, and on almost ever y freeway entrance and exit. So thank you.
Alex I found this video super informative, would love to see one about tires! If you don’t make one about tires they will just remain round pieces of rubber to me forever
I swear if I hear 1 more person say "dampener" instead of "damper" I'm going to loose my mind! Dampener means it makes something less enjoyable, a damper is a device that regulates flow. BC Racing coil overs are dampeners because of their lack of engineered dampers.
Checkout Motoriq, Mike has a series on how to setup damper clicks. If you're talking about proper motorsport setup, you have gotta read up about roll center, bumpsteer, bump/droop ratio, critical damping, and anti geometries.
Thank you, sir! Thank you for justifying my upgrade to Swift springs when I bought my BC Racing BR series coilovers my V6 New Edge Mustang drift project 😁 I clicked the button for it like, “idk what the difference is, but sure why not.” Now I know 👍 Thanks again! 🤘🏼🔥✌️
this is some really great info. A deeper dive into which companies dyno their products and properly engineer the internals of their dampers for a given application would be incredibly valuable. Great video.
i just brought some used maxpeedingrods coilovers for my mx-5 for $13 (£10) i know they're not going to be good but ill be trying to sort all the known fitment issues with them and just have a laugh with how bad they are they might surprise me tho. after a respray and de rusting
@@AngelWingrc i will im waiting for my mate (a salvage guy) to get the other 2 as i only have the front at the moment but ill be buying the paint soon and getting to work on them i will be documenting it on instagram as and when
@@Blakek. Nope its for this channel. Alex started this channel along with his main channel shortly after leaving Fitment Industry. Longs story short, I wanted a So you want a Kei Truck video on FI but that never happend. Now that Alex created a new series How to Modify. That's it
I wonder what the ratio of people watching all the videos on coilovers are watching them because they want to build a track/drift car, or are wanting to upgrade their daily driver and lower them for comfort and looks only?
@@Treaxvour yeah, there are a ton of aftermarket options with fancy “technology” that claim to be better than others. Since they’re the main things holding your wheels to the car would be interesting to know if theres more to them than just threaded metal and marketing.
Holy shit, nah man. I've had several coilovers from Silvers (direct) and been perfect - mind you I track all my cars. Never once an issue, if anything they worked better than my FA or car specific legacy brands. At only about 1400 - 1600$ considering swift upgrade and custom rates etc etc, Silvers has done me right. 😂 Also Silvers in Europe is TUV certified in most applications, like miatas from sps in Germany. Also Silvers come from Taiwan, most my boxes still had Taiwanese stamps n shit.
Ive been thinking of getting some affordable coilovers for my 2012 Mazda 3 sedan. Theres just so much wheel gap that i wanna shrink. At least an inch or two since i also live in Wisconsin and winter exists. Tysm!
Back when I was into cars... I had an evo 9 MR SE edition. Very rare trim. Bought right off the showroom floor. I was the first person in the USA to have a rare combination of parts... One was a bolt on ball bearing turbo that was the equivalent to a GT35R. It was an FP Black. This was before they offered their turbos with ball bearing. I also had the first built 6 Speed MR transmission thanks to Shep Trans in Ohio. I made him do it after getting hundreds of people to sign a document saying theyd pay for one if he built it because he was afraid of doing the work and it not being worth it for him. But I got him the incentive. Was also the first to put aluminum rods on a 2.4L stroker kit for the evo9. She put out 500-600 on 93octane depending on boost. I put on a pair of KW V3's on that car, got it corner weighted/balanced and professionally aligned... And had am absolute blast at NJMP & Limerock. You arent kidding about them. They are on another level of feel. Its like mixing factory comfort, with raw racing pedigree. I've since grown out of modifying cars.. but I sim race here and there because racing talent runs in my blood. Good times.
Great vid bro I need some help cause Man coilover selection is tuff, pulled my old ones out as they are leaking oil everywhere and found out they are old nismo oem style coils that aren’t made anymore.. have no clue on spring rates or anything of the sort and have no clue what to buy now to bring back a similar feeling to these and it’s stressing me out lol (car is 98 r34 gtt coupe rwd) Mainly used for spirited road driving and the occasional track day here and there but mainly street car. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated 🙏🙏
I've got an 06 forester and it's auto witch doesn't bother me cause I wanna make a daily drive OEM+ kind of build and I've been told that the auto transmission gets confused with the changes if I put bigger wheel on it which is something I want to do along with the coilovers... Is that true will i have a problem? And I wanna be able to hit some mountain hills but I don't want to compromise the daily comfort what's the solution to this??
I get quite confused by American/European model naming, but do you have any options for the 1989-1998 Silvia S13 Coupe? I can't seem to see any in the build gallery and the only filter options are either the 240sx or 200sx, Which I believe are the American and European names for the 180sx Hatch/Liftback.
Appreciate Teins is the benchmark for a decent entry to this realm, but whilst price is a good gauge for determining quality - What would you say to popular japan tuning companies. I.e Blitz with their ZZR range which is slightly cheaper than Tein's Flex Z? They seem to be manufactured in Taiwan like most of the lower end brands, but does their oil and shock compression stack up on par with mid range BC or Teins? Thanks in advance!
Spring steel is a certain allow, but all start as bar stock. Heated to anneal temps, not melt, but hydraulically pushed thru a die and a robotic arm twist them, pulls to stretch like variable rate, then allowed to cool slowly not quick into heated or cold oil. I rebuild motorcycle forks and Yamaha alone had 6 different oils and measured in graduated beakers for the correct amount. ASE Master tech since 78. More information that doesn't help anyone!
Why is Bilstein always snubbed in every coilover video on RU-vid? They have been in the game for awhile, but every time I've asked about their coilovers from other enthusiasts, they automatically claim they are stock suspension and ride height (not true as they offer -1.5 ride height). Then proceed to say that I should buy the brands listed on this video for performance. Yet Bilstein has different teirs and price points for coilovers as well from $600- $3000. So i bought a set of B14's to see if they were trash. They are for the most part track coilovers for the street. I've had others drive my car and they are impressed with the coilovers as well. Yet the brand seems to be ignored. Why?
So I'm at a predicament. I'm loving my kwv2's. But how does it compare to fortune auto 500/510's? I desire a comfortable street performance while also being able to perform and handle on track.
It's all about the fluids bro, maybe you can check the fluid type and compression to help figure that out. Look up what the stock specs are and get the closest to it or more performance oriented one. Hopefully it's not too difficult to find out that information.
That should be a pretty similar comparison. Fortune Auto does have the ability to customize the set up a bit further if you want swift springs, and different spring rates
Buying FAs will rob you your total suspension travel. You have to know what you're doing with setting up a set of 2 piece coilovers. While on the other hand, KW usually makes their shocks specific to the platform, such that they will retain a lot of the factory suspension travel, which is a key to your street comfort.
