Join me for 20 minutes of painting zen as I paint my favorite wildflowers....Queen Anne's Lace. I don't do an underpainting this time. I just dive right in with my Terry Ludwig pastels. Artists don't necessarily refer to the underpainting stage as a mess! It's my favorite part to design and execute! I love thedisorder and chaos it brings to an otherwise very boring scene! Let's keep making a mess😂😂😂

Really beautiful, Karen! Queen Anne’s Lace was my mom’s favorite weed, and it really is so beautiful! They’re considered a “noxious weed” here, but I love them and use them in flower arrangements all the time. Of course, they’re not blooming yet for us, but they will be! And now I’ll have a strategy for painting them. I notice you often cleverly get very low for your photos, and shoot up through the flowers, grasses, and leaves. It makes for such an interesting perspective!

Incredible! I’m new to pastels.. so in the beginning it looked a little like a random mess. But when I saw you build up layers and adding light layers on top of dark layers!! Wow 😮 such high quality pigments! I’ve got some Winsor Newton, carand’ache And derwent pastels. Can’t wait to play

Such a captivating process in this video. Karen, would it be possible, if you have time in the future, to make a video showing how to paint a striking sunset? I've seen some beautiful soft pastel paintings of sunrays and also sunsets where the light is electric, but I just cannot replicate it and it's driving me crazy. Thank you. 🌺💚🌺
