My mother drank when with me and my brother Our lives would have been much easier had she not. The gentleman in the video is like me. It's mostly behavioral issues though I do have visible facial and finger anomalies. I'm 68 and this has gone on my entire life. It has cost me jobs and relationships. I hope that mothers will get the message not to drink when pregnant--if you do, your child may end up with a lifetime of problems. I am glad that you mentioned the intellectual factors because my estranged spouse thinks that you have to be low IQ if you have FASD/FAE. I'm at the high end of the scale IQ-wise, but then she got in touch with a parent support for parents of FASD children and most if not all of them have mild to severe intellectual impairment. She simply does not understand that every person with FASD is different. But I keep fighting with the FASD and do the best I can. Thank you for such a sympathetic well set forth talk.

Very nice comment I'm not a woman but I'm watching this video cause of curiosity and because i need to be aware of things like these and pregnancy. Out of curiosity do you have any children? If so how many?

I have it too and searched about it, life expectancy is 34-37 so that doesn’t make sense are you sure you have it? Facial features, any bone deformity etc?
@jiogcyihsugyiocjfdoivhphvw6821
@@sheffcityjl1119 no, life expectancy isnt set in stone.

@@Broomful No, I don't. I always figured that having chidren wasn't a good idea because I drank heavily for a time in my 20s and 30. Plus I was abused in foster and adoptive homes and I didn't want the possibility that I might abuse them.

@@sheffcityjl1119 I have finger and ear deformities, an amost non-existent philtrum and narrow upper lip. I aso have epicanthi, which happens sometimes in FASD. And as the lady points out, it doesn't always show, but I do have some of the facial and finger deformities. After getting my adoption records, it was found out that my birth parents were binge drinkers--we're taking about getting hammered every weekend. I met my birth sister and she confirmed this. I'm not sure why I have lived so long. But there are elderly peope with FASD, so we don't all die in our thirties.

I could feel the speaker’s nerves at the beginning of this presentation and then the practical attributes of clinical practice came into the limelight and the speaker became so much more comfortable. Really great presentation. Thank you.

FASD can also be caused from a father drinking alcohol, for the testicles are bath in alcohol for three to four months before conception. It’s more common to find people with thin upper lips and smooth Philtrum than not. I see thin upper looks every wear, therefore I think more people are walking around with FASD and not know or notice it. Like me, diagnosed at age 68, ASD age 68 and ADD at age 61. All because my dad had a drinking problem.

My mother has the thinnest lips possible and her father only got drunk once in his life a few years before she was born and hated it and never did it again. Her mother never touched alcohol. So, just having a thin upper lip doesn’t in itself mean anything.

We really are failing these children, it starts right at the beginning. There is only one doctor here allowed to diagnose FASD, the waiting list is 4 years at best then it takes another year to get the diagnosis during that 5 year period more damage is getting done. Until then we just go through the system as “naughty child” and “bad caregiver” and their needs ignored. Australia the land of a fair go 😂

I am now wondering how much FASD affects political opinion and persuasion. During this war I have encountered many people with very short memory span(1 wk or less) and a tendency to be very negative in their views even against their own country and in contradiction to clear video or live evidence. Could they have FASD?

Many children are diagnosed as “autistic” but really it’s FASD being misdiagnosed. Because people don’t want to tell American/westerner women that DRINKING and take SSRI will give your kids syndrome. I believe 30 percent of children in the USA suffer FASD, it’s definitely underreported in southern states
