Watch this video to see which size and format of Hermes scarf offers the best value for the money. Given the recent price increases, I will look at twenty of the more prevalent scarf sizes and formats, including scarves from the men’s and the women’s collections. All calculations are per square inch in US dollars based on current prices published online at Hermes.com as of January 2024.

So glad to see you crediting both sides of the double face scarves this year. It makes a difference. I'm disappointed in Hermes regarding the sizeflation. It seems cheap, sneaky, and off brand.

Love the detective work on this one. I hadn’t noticed the sizes changing. Some of those price increases will make me ponder twice before clicking the buy button. You might double check your quote for silk twill 140. I think you listed at $900 but actually $990 USD? Forgive my editor brain. 🤓 Thanks for another great video!

I bought my first 90cm double faced scarf last November in the airport duty free shop. Based on your findings I’m so happy I did! I’m learning so much from your videos and really enjoy your channel. I have my eye on another double face, I hope I can wait until my next trip for duty free again!

Thank you for this in depth look at all the Hermes scarves and the price increases & sizeflation. Very disappointed with them decreasing sizes but increasing prices. I will watch the video again there were a lot of scarves and numbers so I’m not sure I got which scarf was the best value 😆. Thank you for this video will definitely make some people think twice before purchasing. 😊❤️

I will go for vintage instead of buying new. I own both vintage and brand new scarfs bought at stores. Most of my favorites are vintage, especially the jacquard silk ones from the 90’s, sadly discontinued already 😢

Thanks again Maya for these informative videos. They have changed my thinking about what size scarves to purchase. Your perceptive raising of the sizeflation issue prompted me to measure our small collection of 45cm (11) and 70cm (10) scarves which covers the period 2008 to the present. Based on what must be considered an amateur measuring effort, I can say that no evidence exists in our collection of a recent size reduction by Hermes. Their finished sizes are less than their advertised sizes, and (out on a limb here) likely always have been. That fact does not change my appreciation of these amazing creations.

Thank you for the list! I'm sad to see double digit increases for most of the sizes. I might have to look at different formats than what i was looking at. But a funny thing... i think they are still cheaper than other luxe brands? 😅 i was looking at twilly from hermes abd dior and I'm like... 😮

Seems like the mens side of the house remains mostly untouched with the size listings. I’m inclined to think it may be a lag with production like you stated. Pretty sure mens scarves are a fraction of the market vs women’s scarves so women’s scarves are the first to have changes made (my guess). The other possibility I could see is they’ve decided to update size listings to be more in line with reality and natural variation. However you’d need a large collection going far back to confirm that. Another trend I’ve noticed for mens is they’ve all but abandoned 140 shawls and losanges and gone full in on rectangles. At least for the US site at this time. Hoping to see the return of 140s and losanges in more variety in the future.

Thanks, Gregory! I wouldn’t be surprised if women’s scarves dominate, but I have known gents to shop the women’s collection and vice versa! Guilty on the latter. Agreed about the seeming lack of options on the men’s side, though; not too into rectangles personally. But you have given me an idea about the look back. I have 90 cm scarves from the 1980s up through 2023, so maybe I’ll do a video on my findings! 🙌

Hi Maya, thanks for the breakdown. Do you know what the difference is between the Souatine Twill Up and a regular Twill Up that accounts for such a big price difference? Also, do you have any knot tutorials for the Twill Ups?

Good question, Alexandra! I’ve been trying to figure that out myself. I visited an H boutique just after the New Year to see some. Not only didn’t they have any, but the SA couldn’t tell me the difference either! 🫤 It is a big price difference. I don’t own any twill ups, so unfortunately no tutorials in that size.

I checked my 140 cashmere scarves, it has been the same size . Compare the jungle love tattoo from previous yearand this (last) year Le Jaguar. They were almost the same size around 53”x 53”, never were 55”x 55”

Raising prices while shrinking size is quite the price increase. By any chance do you know if they have switched to digital or laser printing as opposed to screen printing? I have heard they have, which would feel like another cost cutting price increase.

I’ve heard that rumor as well, but as far as I know, they still screen print. Granted it’s automated, but it would have to be given the volume they do annually in scarves.

I noticed the shrinkage when a retailer told me a 35" square was 34x34. Like what? It was a secondary market, but still. I know this is terrible but I've started buying the dupes of some designs to see if I ever wear a certain design before I spend a chunk of money for the real version. Mostly unsure of the styles with cartoon elements or a handrawn animal in an urban setting. Not to be specific 😂. At the current price point, I've found I don't need nor want the whimsical styles.

Understandable, they are even more of a pretty penny these days! I’ve bought dupes in the past to check them out and see the differences between them and real ones. They end up being my kitchen bandanas 🤣

You did a great job, but I don't care if I love it, I will buy it. The same happens everywhere. Look at the grocery. The sizes are smaller and smaller, and the prices are higher and higher. That's where they rob us every day. We buy maybe a few scarves a year, and on the grocery, we spend every day and millions people pay higher price for less produce. That's what is upsetting and not the increase on the designer stuff. People can live without a scarf but every one has to eat every day 😢
