Whatever you’re paying this this guy, pay him more and keep doing so. I’ve been a cubase user for two decades. This guys approach and expertise is a credit to a Steinberg. 😀
I hope he goes further in life than presenting tutorials for us. 😊 This is his day job. 😝 His talent and ear and skills and work ethic and charisma are absolutely flawless! 👏
@@irenashiloh8808 his day job is actually working as an audio engineer for musicians, among other things like making plugins and sounds for libraries. he said youtube is just a side thing
Dom! This is the first video I watched from your channel and I didn't even use Cubase (I was using Pro Tools and Logic Pro), I was so shocked and watched more and more videos from you and I have just decided to buy Cubase, one of the best decisions I have made. Thank you Dom!
Not only is the Cubase mixer good for teaching how to use a real console, it's also a great mixer for us old guys who started on consoles. The similarity between the Cubase Mix Console and analog consoles is one of the main reasons I chose Cubase. I just wasn't ABLE to LOGICally mix as easily with other DAW's, even if they were had TOOLS that were PRO.
I've been using Cubase daily for at least 15 years, this and your keyboard shortcuts video has just doubled the amount of things I know about it!! And thanks to you I'm going to have to buy the upgrade to Cubase 11!! Great videos, thank you!!
Dude you're amazing. Using Cubase since 2005 (started with Cubase SX 3) and I've always been the only Cubase guy among PT and and Live people lol. Steinberg has done an amazing, amazing job this past 5-6 years and Cubase is a monster now, and your videos are helping me learn even more about the program I've been using for 15 years. Thanks!
I personally do use several DAWs as well - when you work in the industry the more platforms you can support - the more work you can accept without needing multi-track exports. As usual Dom, amazing job!! You are the man.
No matter how long a person has worked with/in a DAW there are always things that he has not discovered, new about, used, forgotten etc. Thank you Dom for putting these together and showing what a useful software Cubase is. Learned a thing in this one as well 😊. Looking forward to Control room to see what did I miss 😏😊
oh my, this was quite a revelation!. have been using PT and recently got Cubase for midi heavy projects. now thinking if I should just switch completely over to cubase:)
Me too man my MacBook it's broken 2 or 3 years ago and I was many years without playing and working with any daw except pro tools. I have pro tools 10 when they throw to the market Cubase 6 or 7 I think. Man many things just change I don't know which version or Cubase is this but Mann it's look so easy to work with. I am also so interested in how reaper works I think its free daw.
204/5000 I've been working with Cubase for over ten years. Since I switched from 5 to version 10.. that was a game changer for me and my sound. The working interface is great,.. everything I do is much faster ..I have more time to be creative.. so many hidden options to explore. Great video. Thank you. 🙏
I've used numerous DAWs over the years, from Logic to PT to Ableton. I've been getting into Cubase out of an interest for doing more orchestral scoring work and it seems like the best fit for that. I have to say some of the routing and setup feels a bit convoluted as an outsider, but I'm gonna stick with it - everything in this list is really impressive and something I wish I could do every single day in PT or Logic. The searching/filtering/view presets is huge, especially when dealing with large sessions. I also love that utilitarian channel strip tools are readily available without having to add any additional plugins, just like a real console. And the metering is really slick. Thanks for making this video!
Absolutely fantastic video, dear Dom! You have shown SO MUCH in such a short amount of time - thereby saving the life-time of so many viewers. Perfect - I LOVE it !!!
I think “Quick Link” would be worth a dedicated section. It’s brilliant. If I e.g. insert a tape simulation plugin that doesn’t have any included grouping option on several channels, I can now select all the channels and control all the parameters on all tracks from just one plugin instance, maybe switch the tape formula on all drum tracks at once? No problem! There are still features sorely missing, though: One much requested is the ability to re-arrange channels in the mixer, independent from the order in the arrange window. The optical separation between channels still could be better. An integrated dry/wet-mix for each plugin slot, like reaper has, would be most welcome. I would love to be able to save my track visibility configurations (for track types) globally . The snapshot function still doesn’t save automation for the plugins afaik, which is crucial. Despite those shortcomings, the mixer is great, and I cannot imagine mixing without a pre section, control room, quick link and visibility agents.
To be honest, if you go through the manual, you can search for keywords and you will learn even more about the things you're searching for, than from most videos.
@@JK_EU but thank HEAVENS we can watch a detailed video such as this one!! I prefer to watch and follow him as he speaks to repeat the steps and this makes learning better for me.
Started with CB 5, never used another DAW but saw tons of how-to videos from other DAWs on tons of topics. I never felt the need of changing. Now I'm on 10.5 pro and already waiting for 11 just to get surprised with what Cubase will come up with 😍👍
I've been using Cubase since it was just a midi sequencing app on Mac in the early 90's. That's a looong time. And Cubase is still the best DAW in my opinion.
I've used Cubase for a long time, when I have time away from work. This was one of the most informative videos I've seen. There was so much functionallity that I was missing. Thanks for putting this together.
DOM! You are the man. There is so much to learn in Cubase. I always learn something from you. I have been using Cubase 11 Pro for 5 months now and I love it. I have started a new ritual when watching your videos. It has made my mixes so much more interesting. I take a shot of Tequila everytime Dom says "BOOM".
@@barlev5 it's a Cubase 10.5 feature. If you have 10.0 or below you cannot have that in Cubase unless you use third party plugins (Izotope, Fab Filter Eq3)
Ooops! I missed this one! Great video! You can probably go through the comments and find 20 more reasons for 20 Reasons Why Cubase Mixer is the BEST! -MEGA Walkthrough - part 2 !!! So you can add the configurations feature that also works in the project window showing sets of tracks and you can change the sets via key commands and only see e.g. guitars or percussion tracks or whatever. The best thing is you have two sets of key commands for this since the project window and the mix console window have the same key commands but separate sets.
A very nice, infomational video about the cubase mixer. Dom is not speaking in a boring tone and not to fast, he's english is very clear to me and good to understand. Some german speakers that talk about cubase. some that teach cubase and in german, speaking and clicking very fast. OK a video i can stop, go backwards an starte it agein, but it is also that way very exhausting. So great job in my opinion! More like that about cubase. The other videos from the cubase channel on youtube are mostly very long and the speaker sonds very boring to me and not that clear like Dom.
excellent tutorial. I have always favoured CB mixer over others I use (Logic, Ableton, ProTools), especially for routing. I learned lots from this thank you, even though I have been using CB for years.
I love Cubase, it's been so well designed I think Pro Tools bought their way into being considered the industry standard and then constantly gouge you and considering dozens of the patents in Pro Tools come from Cubase (they wanted an industry standard so gave them away for free!) and the fact that as a drummer I can see those nice meters from where I sit behind a real drum kit, the wood ones we used to use and can see them clearly. I also have an interface with 64 bit floating point so one more of many reasons to use Cubase. Great video, one more subscription for that and I like the way your progress bar is segmented to find individual points that you made, never saw that before and it's very handy. Cubase will be the only daw I use, because the others just don't keep up in my humble opinion, well a little humble but not too much. Thanks for the video, I'll be checking out some more after this, well done.
I've been using Cubase Pro for years now. First version I bought was the 7.5 version. It's been my first Daw right from the start. Maybe because I think it's the pretiest of all....Maybe yes, but that's not the only one. I've got friends that use Reaper, an other one, Logic that tried to convince me to make the switch to a more 'affordable Daw'. I keep telling them, that I don't, and won't 'downgrade' Not that I was satisfied with all the upgrade of Cubase...had some serious issue, with the 8.5 version, but problem was solved with the 9 version. Since then, I never looked back. But now l want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for your wonderfull videos. All the things that you taught me, the past few years. I do trust your opinions at the highest level. You are a wonderfull teacher. Every time I watch one of your video, I feel that I learned something more , a new trick all the time. You make everything easy, you have that way to explain things, that works. Once again, thanks a great deal. "Steinberg" should double your salary and more. You are a true asset to them.
Dom the Don! so nice to find another passionate Cubase user, Telling fellow producers all the time about Cubase and how much time it can save, loving the videos, great stuff!
OMG DOM!!!!!!!! YOU ARE A LEGEND!!!! What a fantastic video, thanks so much for sharing this! I have been using cubase for ages but have still only scratched the surface of what this DAW can do! You have shown some things in this video that i have to be honest i did not know about. i have been trying to work out ways of speeding up my work flow, especially with mixing and your video has opened my eyes in so many ways! Cannot thank you enough!!! As i said before, you are a LEGEND (and our Cubase friend!!) #STAYSAFE
My first DAW was Cubase SE3... just bought Cubase AI 12 On SE3 it was mainly recording and mixing rock bands Now with AI12 im going to experiment with the production side Thanks Dom
#21 Cubase IC Pro! For less than $20 for that app (plus an iPad), not only do you have a touch screen controller for transport, you can move multiple faders at once, create in an instant a load of macro buttons for one touch operation (such a time saver!) so I use it all the time next to my mouse and keyboard, but using a feature of the control room, in an instant on an iPad I select Cue1 (up to Cue4) and I can control that Cue mix remotely when I want to sing or play in a different part of the studio, as can up to 4 performers each with their own mix! How efficient and effective is that for happy performers rather than a long conversation with the producer to adjust each channel volume up and down! It’s incredible! Thanks Dom for a great video!
Brilliant video thank you! As someone who has just upgraded to 10.5 pro from Cubase Stuido 5 it would have taken me months to learn these features and now I can just get on and use them - and they look so useful. The gain staging feature and the focusing on only tracks with data at cursor or in region is genius and will save so much time. This video has shown me where the ££ went and then some. Thanks again.
Most excellent! Great video. Cubase changed my music life. It still amazes me that a software daw makes me feel like I have a million dollar studio. I used to sequence using only hardware. Now, I have cubase and it is almost my whole studio.
The Cubase mixer video out there ... thank you very much for the great tipps!! I will go straight to my Cubase and check out the things I did not know before. What I also like very much is your enthusiastic and catching way of explaining things. Simply great!
Thanks so much. This has given me a real incentive to explore the Cubase Mixer further. I learned that I have yet so much more to learn about operating a mixer. So exciting. I’m looking forward learning about this!
The function to import tracks from another project is really boooooooom. :-) It saves a lot of time. It is the main reason for me to work with Cubase again. Thanks for all the tips and all the best to you.
You are very good mixing teacher I learning a lot from you, keep going doing the good work. I was planned to change my daw from Cubase to Logic but I will stay loyal to my first love and that's Cubase ❤❤❤
Dom you just blew my mind with that select all + low cut filter, had no idea that was a thing This was one of the most informative videos I've seen in a while, so many great shortcuts and time savers. For some reason I had been afraid of getting into the weeds with the mixer bu this video gave me some great tools to start digging in. Never been more proud to be a Cubase user
Wow! What a great video on the Cubase mixer! I have to agree with you %100. I love Cubase because it makes your studio sound and feel like a million bucks and not just a computer running some audio software. The more you come from using real mixing boards, the more you appreciate all the hard work they put in to the Cubase mixer.
I started working with Cubase 5 and had a good experience. Then for experimenting I switched to another DAW and I was not totally satisfied for several years and this year I decided to go back to Cubase. I see the page of Steinberg I saw that it is going for version 10.5 and I decided to buy the Element was so much my amazement that I could not resist and I did the upgrade to Pro even I am still amazed with the tools that this software has. It's amazing.
Weill, I've always been a Cubase guy and although I'm basically interested in a few other DAW's (Harrison Mixbus, Studio one) I don't want to get confused by different handling and workflow. What I love about Cubase is that it gives me a lot of modern features to work with combined with a very console-like look and feel. If you look at Ableton for example, I'm sure it is a good DAW, but just the look of it makes it impossible to use for me. In Cubase I feel "at home"
I'm a bit old school and have mixed a lot on traditional mixing consoles. The Cubase mixer just makes the most sense to me. And it has so many nice bells and whistles that I never had before. And yeah, I don't know why so many DAWs don't have a Pre section, it's such an essential thing. But then again I also don't know why it isn't visible by default in Cubase (maybe that changed, I still have to upgrade to 11). But templates take care of that anyway.
Dope, i had to get Cubase because of this tutorial. You have really shown how cubase is the best DAW, and i agree because i have also used many others before so i know what you are talking about. Blessup!
I saved hours from what I learned here, and I have used Cubase since v 2.0. I just settled on using Reason for drafting music and Cubase for mixing. And this confirmed I made the right decision.
Show channels with data at cursor is a huge feature! I’m mixing a live concert consisting of 20 songs. I split everything except the drums in separate channels per song. Then when mixing a song I use the feature to show only those channels with data. No crazy automation chasing levels etc for each song. I have 3 keyboard players each with multiple keys. Bass and synth bass. Sequencer world with even more tracks. Guitar... 5 vocalists... the prep time is tedious but now I’ve got a simplified mix strategy thanks to that feature. Thanks to you for all the great tips and tricks!
amazing video, I use Cubase all day, everyday. One thing Cubase needs its to be able to switch between a mono and stereo track without having to create a new track...
I used Cubase 2-4 for quite some time and then moved to Reaper, mainly for one reason: CPU usage! I opened duplicate sessions in both DAWs, Cubendo was using 90% CPU, Reaper was 32%! Also, the global changes you made in the video can also be done in Reaper, if not most DAWs these days? I dunno as right now I only use Reaper, after years of working with most everything out there - I'm old and have been an AE since pre-DAW days :) Anyways, very good video my friend and it offers a lot of help for many I'm sure. Cheers
Damn these videos Dom makes are pure gold. Many tricks I didn't even know after few years of heavy Cubase use. And yeah, the mixer is indeed one of the things I really, really love in Cubase vs. other DAW's I've used or tried. Thanks Dom again for a great tips compilation.
Cubase is the best DAW. I have tried others was completely underwhelmed. Dom has given me a deeper appreciation for the built channel strip. No plugins need and less demand on my cpu.
@@DomSigalas Welcome. I'm trying to go to Studio One because it's made by the same producers as Cubase and it's cheaper and easier to use and I'm just starting out, so please tell me is it worth it because I've heard that it's the same program as Cubase?
One thing I don‘t like about cue sends is, that you „have to“ fiddle around with those cue send sliders if you want to change the headphone mix. So I use Direct-Routing to send unity gain level to group tracks that mirror the instruments the artist wants to hear. From there I route those „monitor-channels“ to groups like „band“, „drums“ and „voice“. Those last groups are routed with „cue send“ post fader to my headphone outputs. And I use one of the mix console windows only for monitoring. That way I have faders that control the volume of the instruments and voices the artist is hearing and I can mix them totally separate from my main mix, even with separate effects and individual/additional eq if necessary.
Wow these tips are great.. Sucks to see all of this now, just having finished mixing an album in Cubase. This video would have been really helpful for my workflow :D
Thank you for this video, it is great to see this DAW at its best! What I would like to mention here is the importance of a particular workflow. So, I see now that Cubase mixer is awesome, but I personally never use mixer view in my DAW of choice, I always work in the "arrange view" or whatever you may call it. I just have no use for mixer at all.
Super awesome explained, super awesome features, and how you make the presentation of each one video, it's also super awesome. Thx a lot Dom. Great job👍
Incredible mixer! I've worked with Logic's, Ableton's and Studio One's mixers, and Cubase's is definitely the most complete. There is however a feature that I miss and I cannot understand why it has not been implemented and that is the grouping of the channel strips underneath the busses, similar to the folders in the arrangement window, that would allow to pack/unpack the contained channels.
Great presentation! I'm considering a move from Studio One to Cubase, and the Mixer is a big reason. I'm hoping you can answer some related questions... 1. How's the CC121? Does it keep you away from the mouse & keyboard? 2. Can the meter next to the fader be hidden since it's available atop the track? And can the master meter (control room?) show different measurements in the mixer (LUFS) and project window (RMS/dbfs)? 3. Does Cubase have an equivalent to Studio One's Scenes? Can I set up a drum "scene" to show only my drum tracks, busses and VCA? 4. Is the channel strip modeled after any particular hardware? Is the preamp? 5. Is there an option to keep the busses next to the related audio tracks? 6. Can the CC121 control both the panning and width of the Combine Panner? Thanks!
1) yes, a lot, for me at least 2) no, you cannot remove the meter next to the fader. yes, you can have a LUFS and RMS at the same time. However, the scale setting of the meters are synced. 3) yes, and you can show different configuration at each of the 3 mixer windows simultaneously 4) I do not know, guess not. 5) yes, you can move the bus in the project window to any position and so just next to your audio tracks. 6) no, when a channel is set to combined panner, CC121 will control the left signal only.
