20 things I have in my prepping pantry for the food shortages and rising cost of living in the UK.
How to start prepping for the food shortages - In this video I share some of the things we have in our prepping supplies... so when the prices go up, or there isn't the produce to buy in the shops, we can hopefully be a bit more prepared for it.
This is the video where I show you how I make ghee from butter and what I use it for. • Making Ghee From Butte...

Hi Tilly.. Just a quick note to say that I have found your comments both informative and balanced in their respective guide to one form of prepping in guiding people in buying cheaper and more quality foods in order to survive in these difficult times.I have been prepping for a few years now, and am still willing to listen other peoples points of views and attempts to plan for our challenging times ,and what ever may be coming down the line. Keep up the good work Best regards . Mick .

Hi Mick, thank you very much, there are certainly many different ways to prep, and I think it can seem overwhelming to know where to start for some people. Keep prepping and my best regards to you.

Twenty different things to feed and fill us (in no particular order). These are shelf stable (not frozen items) as that what would rise for Tilly's unique situation. How you prepare and store items will be unique to your situation/dietary needs. 1. 2:31 Peanut butter/nuts - shorter storage time, rotate them as you eat them. First on the shelf is first to be out[eaten] (FIFO), recently bought items go in the back and bring older items forward to the front 2. 3:42 Boxed cereal 3. 4:09 Tinned fish/meat 4. 4:48 Tinned or dried vegetables, or frozen if that works for you 5. 5:43 Meals in a tin- soups, stews, chili etc 6. 6:30 Combo of dried pasta, tomato bases 7. 7:07 Water - minimum just over 4 litres (1 gallon) per person/day 8. 8:31Milk - powdered stores longest, also option of powdered creamer for tea/coffee, evaporated milk, UHT milk which has a shorter use by date 9. 10:03 Pepper and Salt - table salt, kosher for pickling if you like that, salt can also be used the preserve foods (salt beef, making sauerkraut or kimchi), salt can be used for cleaning as well 10. 10:27 Herbs and spices - grow your own or buy dried 11. 11:16 Tinned and/or dried fruits 12. 11:43 Dried rice 13. 12:19 Beans, pulses, pearl barley - dried or tinned. Keep in mind you'll need a way of cooking any dried beans during a loss of power/gas. 14. 12:51 Sugar & honey - honey for medicinal purposes/applying to wounds 15. 13:43 Oils & Fats, Ghee 16. 15:02 Potatoes - tinned or powdered, tinned doesn't require rehydrating 17. 15:32 Tea and coffee 18. 16:13 Pet food 19. 16:48 Oats/porridge - versatile usages. 20. 17:17 Sweet treats - good for morale

You’ve shown a good basic list of foods there, when I think back to my childhood, (early 50’s) we didn’t have a lot of the things we have today and yet somehow our tummies were always filled, it was probably easier to feed us because there just wasn’t the choice we have today, I’ve added hot chocolate in with my drinks, easily mixed with water, milk puddings and custards too to go with my tinned fruits, my dog is a dustbin he will eat anything the cat on the other hand is soooo fussy.

You are so right,, prepper pantries vary according to everyone's own taste.. I stock things we usually eat like canned veggies, rice, canned proteins like chicken and tuna, flour for pancakes and bread, canned tomatoes and sauce, pastas, and of course spices... among other things.. It's an ever evolving process.😉

Arizona u.s.a....mountains... We are far from any big grocery stores. Closest Wal-Mart or safeway is 80 miles away. So we stop rarely. Making a list of what we need replace is essential. Taking this list to work on at the store an On line sales can save your budget. Fresh vegetables is a real challenge during the winter.

One thing with the powdered potatoes (like Smash) is that you can use it to thicken up stews and soups as well - so I always have a tub of it available. I always have instant hot chocolate drink as well - it only needs hot water and can be very comforting in the same way choccy bars are. It could also be added to rice pudding (which I would always have as well in tins) or even oats.

Great ideas for back stock. One caution: it has been my experience that tinned evaporated and condensed milks only last a month or so past the Best Buy date. I have even had some go bad, before that date. Be cautious if you open a can and it has darkened, become lumpy or curdled looking, toss it no matter what the date. Can cause severe gastric distress if eaten. I stock the Nido milk. I am currently using some that has a Best Buy date of May 2020. It is still perfectly fine. I open the cans of milk powder and vacuum seal in mason jars for storage.

Yes, I learned this the hard way. I had three go bad this year. I still stock them, but only what I can use well within the BB dates.

That's a Fantastic list of 20 important things to Prep with Tilly.👍 A wee tip, Try to keep your tinned Tomatoes on a very low shelf, the tins can get compromised, so less fall out if that happens. Ask me how I know. Lol. Also Tinned Pineapple can pop too, I never knew that till it happened to Alaska Granny, now I keep it stored low, & in individual Ziplock bags. Love Nido, it mixes really well with cold Water, no lumps. I make Ghee too, for seasoning & using in my Cast Iron, & Ghee Fried eggs are the best. I make Saeurkraut, & Kimchi, they have loads of Vitamin C. Yay, Yorkshire Tea, the best. You can make Flour with Oats too. Sorry Long comment, this keeps happening to me here. 🤗 TFS Tilly, take care & keep busy everyone. ❤🙂🐶

Brilliant list! I wanted to let you know as I am a long time prepper/homesteader, sugar lasts indefinitely, so although it is not as great as honey, it will last. I would caution you on the tinned (canned) tomato products. Tomatoes have acid, so I don’t keep them much longer than their expiration date. They will erode the tin from the inside. Glass tomato products are fine. You did quite a thorough job on food preps. Maybe you can do a vid on personal preps? Hygiene will be very important, so there is an idea if you haven’t made a video yet. You are almost at 3,000 subscribers! Way to go! You are reaching more and more people who need you and I thank you for all you do. Blessings my dear. Xx

Glad that you found the Nido powder and like it. The checkout lady in Aldi told me that they have customers in, that no longer want to shop at the mainstream stores. People have realised how much they can save and still have good quality. Sainsbury's being there biggest moans about price hikes. Mains water could suffer treatment issues for starters if the power goes off but I don't know if they have generators as backup.

S&B Golden Curry and Yutaka Katsu Curry Sauce come in box formats where you can keep it it on the shelf and just add hot water and bobs your uncle. It has shelf life of a year and a half or so. So even if you stock up you could have one a month to change up the menu a bit. Bit of chicken, carrots, sauce over boiled rice. Easy.

It sounds like you're doing great with your prepping! I've been making quite a lot of jam lately, but mine doesn't seem to take too long, and I have it turned up pretty high. The price of butter has certainly gone up since I made that video... It was £2 a pack then, but now the cheapest is about £2.25

Kimchi and other fermented foods would be very good to store as they have great health benefits especially if we are on a rationed diet, but also a compressive first aid kit for injury's when or if there maybe no way to access healthcare, eye wash is very important for example as is sterile wound wash, you could also think about getting a few quick drying camping towels as they fold down small and dry in no time, also to easy wash by hand quick drying outdoor pursuit clothing and wick able clothing as most camping style clothing can be hand washed and dry quickly with no power

I have been trying out different recipes with my prep foods. I buy mostly dried or canned foods , spices and sauces. I don’t eat meat, dairy or eggs so it’s quite easy to prep the way I do it. Trying some different things to see if they are worth keeping. I tried the dried soya mince in a bolognaise today. There won’t be any of that in my prep pantry 😂 Great video, very helpful ❤ Microwave rice is already cooked too, so can be eaten straight from the packet.

@frugalitystartsathome4889 Год назад
The dried soya mince is actually quite nice but you do need to “prep” it a bit, not just bung it into a sauce like you would with meat. I generally re-hydrate mine with stock, herbs and spices, and leave it for a couple of hours before use. The good thing about it is that it does absorb flavour. And it makes a useful base for pasta dishes like lasagne or pasta bake, or shepherd’s pie, etc, rather than, say, trying to make burgers or mince & tatties.

Hi Tilly, a tip that my daughter discovered 2 years ago was to soak and dehydrate wild walnuts and then jar them up. They will last two years. We are just about finishing our walnut foraging and will soak, dehydrate and put away for the next couple of years.

@@francespiper3692 I am finishing up my black walnut harvest now. We take a short plank and use wire mesh, like what you would use for small animals (not chicken wire as mice and squirrels can get the nuts), make sure it is a good thicker wire and wrap it around the board to make a large basket. Staple the bottom to the board and tie up the side with wire or use wire clamps. Then hang the basket. Air flows around the nuts and they do not spoil or rot. If you have a small amount of nuts, just hang them in a mesh type produce bag. Here in the US, I would use a mesh bag onions come in. The best way to store them is to freeze them if you don’t have room to hang them, but hanging saves freezer room. Now mind you I have black walnuts and not English walnuts. Perhaps some research may be beneficial for the English type. Good luck!
