These are some great notes! We went in November 2022, and to your point about fruits, we ended up buying some $6 strawberries (since my then 3 year old is picky about foods and we wanted some healthier snacks) but they were extremely good. We didn't try any of the really expensive ones, but overall as you mention, expect to pay more for basic fruits!
Haha $6 is insane for strawberries 🍓. Although one thing for sure is that Japanese are so careful with the fruits that they grow its usually top quality. 😄 And from my understanding, they either use very little or don't use any insect repellant at all, so their fruits are much more organic.
