This movie reflects real horror. Having to Kill something thats really evil makes you feel very good. Having to Kill something thats really good makes every part of your body hurt and scream this is wrong
This movie makes me tear up every time. When John Coffey makes the statement about being tired, I can't take it. The casting for this movie was perfect.
For some reason, all I have to do is think about him holding out those leaves to Tom Hanks and I get choked up. You know the scene where they take him out to help the warden's wife? He loved walking on the grass. That sweet smile he gives the others when he holds out the leaves...😥😩
@@mrs.thomas-usmcwife5686 man I related so much to that I couldn't couldn't but cry because I remember in high-school my only confidant was my guidance counselor and I literally told him like it's not just the fact my moms in the hospital in icu and it isn't just that my nephew just drowned, it's everything the world is just going to shit and I hate the pain of it all with the killing and the hate. He was the best guidance counselor I ever had.
I saw this movie for the first time while I was flying in a plane years after it was released. I cried like a baby, the woman in the seat beside me said "Oh, the Green Mile. Yeah that'll make you cry."
Personaly, for me, even if I'm watching a new tv show, if I see green mile on, I'm totally gonna watch it. Love shawshank too... I do the snotty nose crying as well...
@@elisa4695 I'm the same. This is my favourite movie and I always cry at exactly the same point every time. When Coffey asks not to wear the hood because he is afraid of the dark.
I think I know the script & read the book several times yet I always cry at the end 😢 “Noooooo”!! In my head I’m praying that this time it will be different!!
But what a treasure for all of us who appreciate his performance. It's not about the total quantity of roles, it's about the absolute quality. Michael Clarke Duncan shone bright in this film, and we are all the better for it!
Man, that last handshake gets me every time! "You kill 'em wit dey love. That's how it is all over the world, every day." And that soft little tinkling piano score in the background... Oh gosh, here I go again!
@@avengerscap True, his style doesn't exactly adapt to the screen well, too much of the narration is in a character's head, but I still love most of the movies and all of the books.
Kyle McIntyre , I concur. Carrie’s pretty awesome, as well. Despite King having utterly disavowed The Shining, it’s one of Kubrick’s finest films and one of King’s finest mind-screw adaptations. The film seems to do more justice to the Overlook’s menace and to Tony. (A child’s finger puppet friend is significantly creepier than a fully-grown man from the future)
The Green Mile is probably one of my favorite movies of all time!! it always makes me cry whenever I watch it. the little mouse in the movie was just too adorable. R.I.P. Michael Clark Duncan.
Saw it in the theatre twice and dozens of times since then. I shed tears during three different scenes every time i watch it. No other movie has ever done that for me. Amazing film and so close to the source material. It's a must see for all movie lovers.
When Coffey tells Edgecom it's the kindest thing you done after Edgecom asks him what he is to say to God on the day of his reckoning gets me everytime
One of my favorite movies, ever. It is so touching, frightening, sad, heart lifting and wonderful. It was cast perfectly too! I could never see a different actor for every role. Great video with info I didn't know. Thanks
This is the very first movie that made me cry. I was so young that i couldn't understand what i was feeling, why was i crying over something I'm just watching on the tv. I first watched it when it was first released in VHS
The shawshank redemption, The green mile, the majestic..it just doesnt get any better than this. Frank Darabont deserves credit as one of the best film directors ever
I'm glad they included Dabs Greer's performance. The rest of the cast was spectacular. And Dabs' older Paul Edgecomb, especially his soliloquy at the end, was haunting.
I just love the scene where he heals Patricia Clarkson. Everybody plays that scene so well. It is truly powerful and touching. The “I dreamed of you” and the Saint Christopher medal parts get me every time.
I saw this movie in the theater when it first came out. There was not a dry eye in the house. I still enjoy re-watching it from time even though it makes me feel terribly sad for a few days after seeing it.
I can't watch this movie again. I watched it twice and it emotionally destroyed me for days after. I dont know why. It's so powerful. P.S. I went to high school with Sam Rockwell
It made me so sad when Delacroix got executed... he loves his mouse (Mr. Jangles) so much. My favorite was BRUTAL he did such a good job!!!! He played his part so well
This is the one movie that can make me tear up, just by talking about it. It is and always will be a masterpiece. Michael Clark Duncan. You left us to soon. May you rest in peace ❤️
James Cromwell was actually 2 inches taller than Michael Clark Duncasn (btw pretty sure similar techniques were used to make Pam Ferris seem taller when she was playing Miss Trunchbull in Matilda, since she isnt actually that tall, in the scene where she is talking to Mr Wormwood she appears to be standing on a stool or something to elevate her height).
When I bought my first DVD player, I asked my son which movie should I buy first? He said The Green Mile. I had no idea what it was about before then but seeing that King wrote it and Tom Hanks was in it sold me. Never regretted that purchase and still have the movie.
In the book, I think they got snacks once in a while. So the prisoner (I can't remember his name) had a moon pie and placed it in his mouth for a few hours I believe for it to melt, to do that to the guard.
I had seen this movie many times as a teen. I went years without seeing it and just watched it for the first time since. Watching this as an adult and mother.... Omg it just ripped my heart to shreds. I was balling my eyes out watching this. To put things in perspective...the part where Mr Jingles gets squished was the part I cried the least which is saying alot cause I fucking cried like a baby when that asshole stepped on him.... It actually made me revile the actor who played Percy.
One of if not the best movie ever and it is hard on me too watch it but it is just so good, i can not imagine a better cast movie no way no how, RIP TO MR DUNCAN, HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST ACTORS THAT EVER LIVED, AND I MISS HIM TO THIS DAY!!!!!!!!!!
The Metallica song "Ride the Lightning" is originally taken from this short story. In the movie, Tom Hanks' character states that he is cursed because he made John Coffey "...ride the lightning".
There were actually 3 electric chairs used. The one everyone sat it, the one used for Delacroix, and of course the small one for John. During Delacroix’s execution scene they actually an animatronic dummy, it’s what you see when Brutal is covering up Del’s corpse.
Dude! I’ve always known Stephen King by name but never seen what he looked like til they showed him and I was “wait a second… I know this man from sons of anarchy!” This literally blew my mind today!
Michael Clarke Duncan and Doug Hutchinson (Percy Wetmore) made the movie what it is. Just like Upham (Jeremy Davies) in Saving Private Ryan, these two played their parts so well it just makes a person hate them....but that is excellent acting. Anyone could have played Tom Hanks roll but the antagonist roll is the key roll here. Not enough credit goes to these actors....and no I’m not related to either.
I like to believe that all the historical inaccuracies are just due to the old Paul retelling the story and incorporating in memories along the way that happened later in his life xD
When this first came out I didn't think I would like it. When I finally watched it, I loved it!! I have watched it many times and it brings tears to my eyes every time.
I love the story but.... 1 his initials are J.C. 2 he is completely innocent and pure 3 he can work miracles including bringing the dead back to life and 4 he dies for others sins. Kinda seems like King retold the story of The King.
This film was so amazing, one of my favourites, who needs to know these very small details? It makes no difference to the success of a terrific film and the perfect cast. Well done to everyone involved and RIP to the great man, 'John Coffey, like the drink but not spelt the same'!
guys, i watched this when i was 17 and the impression it has left me with lingers like no other movie. i ended up getting the same billy the kid tattoo at 18, being from texas and along with wild bills sporadic and hell raising mind really connected with me as an young unruly wanna be outlaw, and would put me in a few shenanigans that didnt wanna make me think bout consequences. im 26 now and nowhere near as unstable and sick as wild bill was. every so often when i watch this movie now, i catch my self looking at the same tatoo and realize how much a feat it is to be as volatile and evil as wild bill.
Re: casting Paul Edgecomb -- In the behind-the-scenes extras, Frank Darabont states that all the time he was writing the screenplay, Tom Hanks came into his head for the role and would not go away.
